And compression fields in the i...To simulate the actual flowfield at the exit of the supersonic/hypersonic inlet, a wind tunnel is designed to study the flow in the scramjet isolator under the asymmetric incoming flow. And compression fields in the isolator are investigated using wall static and pitot pressure measurements. Three incoming Mach numbers are considered as 1.5, 1.8 and 2. Results show that the increase of the asymmetry of the flow at the isolator entrance leads to the increase of the shock train length in the isolator for a given pressure ratio. Based on the analysis of the flow asymmetry effect at the isolator entrance on the shock train length, a modified correlation is proposed to calculate the length of the shock train. Predicted results of the proposed correlation are in good agreement with the experimental data.展开更多

Influenced by the mining of the upper coal seam, the roof is loose and broken, and its integ- rity is poor. Resin anchored bolts cannot provide an effective anchoring force in such roof conditions. By conducting free expansion tests and field pull-out tests on a hydraulic expansion bolt, this study has ana- lyzed the influencing factors and laws of radial expansion and anchoring force changes in the rod body. This has revealed the anchoring mechanism of such bolts, and has obtained reasonable water injection pressures and suitable drilling diameters (which are 20-25 MPa and 32-35 mm respectively) for the hydraulic expansion bolt (cR28 mm) used in these tests. Based on pull-out tests at different interlayer spacing, the applicability of hydraulic expansion bolts had been verified for controlling the roof of road- ways under goal with ultra-close distance. Combined with the deformation and failure characteristics of the test roadway roof, this paper proposes a united roof-control technology based on the use of hydraulic expansion bolts and advancing intubation for the roof. Engineering practice indicated that the roof of the test roadway did not generate leaking and caving phenomenon, and the amount of roof deformation was controlled to within 150 mm. Maintenance of the roadway roof has been improved significantly, which ensures safe mining in coal seams with ultra-close separation.展开更多

The model is an extension of the unified hardening(UH) model for overconsolidated(OC) clays ac...A small strain unified hardening(SSUH) model is proposed in the present study to tackle the small strain behavior of clay. The model is an extension of the unified hardening(UH) model for overconsolidated(OC) clays accounting for the small strain stiffness. The new features of the SSUH model over the UH model include:(a) a new elastic hysteretic stress-strain relationship to evaluate the stiffness degradation at small strains and to generate the hysteresis loop under cyclic loading condition;(b) a revised unified hardening parameter to enhance the plastic stiffness at small strains; and(c) a new overconsolidation parameter, which is crucial to make the UH model working with the elastic hysteretic stress-strain relationship effectively. With these enhancements, the SSUH model can describe a high initial stiffness and the highly nonlinear stress-strain relationship at small strains, in addition to the shear dilatancy and strain hardening/softening behaviors of OC clays at large strains. In comparison with the Modified Cam-clay(MCC) model, the proposed model needs two more small strain related parameters, which can be easily obtained from laboratory tests. Finally, some drained triaxial compression tests at large strains, drained triaxial compression/extension tests at small strains, an undrained compression test at small strains and a drained cyclic constant radial stress test are employed to validate the new model.展开更多
Cryogenic propellants LOx/H2 are used at very high pressure in rocket engine combustion. The description of the combustion process in such application is very complex due essentially to the supercritical regime. Ideal...Cryogenic propellants LOx/H2 are used at very high pressure in rocket engine combustion. The description of the combustion process in such application is very complex due essentially to the supercritical regime. Ideal gas law becomes invalid. In order to try to capture the average characteristics of this combustion process, numerical computations are performed using a model based on a one-phase multi-component approach. Such work requires fluid properties and a correct definition of the mixture behavior generally described by cubic equations of state with appropriated thermodynamic relations validated against the NIST data. In this study we consider an alternative way to get the effect of real gas by testing the volume-weighted-mixing-law with association of the component transport properties using directly the NIST library data fitting including the supercritical regime range. The numerical simulations are carried out using 3D RANS approach associated with two tested turbulence models, the standard k-Epsilon model and the realizable k-Epsilon one. The combustion model is also associated with two chemical reaction mechanisms. The first one is a one-step generic chemical reaction and the second one is a two-step chemical reaction. The obtained results like temperature profiles, recirculation zones, visible flame lengths and distributions of OH species are discussed.展开更多
Objective: In pedicle screw fixation, the heads of monoaxial screws need to be directed in the same straight line to accommodate the rod placement by backing out during operation, which decreases the insertional torq...Objective: In pedicle screw fixation, the heads of monoaxial screws need to be directed in the same straight line to accommodate the rod placement by backing out during operation, which decreases the insertional torque and internal fixation strength. While polyaxial screws facilitate the assembly of the connecting rod, but its ball-in-cup locking mechanism reduces the static compressive bending yield strength as compared with monoaxial screws. Our study aimed to assess the mechanical performance of a modified pedicle screw. Methods: In this study, the tail of the screw body of the modified pedicle screw was designed to be a cylindershaped structure that well matched the inner wall of the screw head and the screw head only rotated around the cyclinder. Monoaxial screws, modified screws and polyaxial screws were respectively assembled into 3 groups ofvertebrectomy models simulated by ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) blocks. This model was developed according to a standard for destructive mechanical testing published by the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM F1717-04). Each screw design had 6 subgroups, including 3 for static tension, load compression and torsion tests, and the rest for dynamic compression tests. In dynamic tests, the cyclic loads were 25%, 50%, and 75% of the compressive bending ultimate loads respectively. Yield load, yield ultimate load, yield stiffness, torsional stiffness, cycles to failure and modes of failure for the 3 types of screws were recorded. The results of modified screws were compared with those ofmonoaxial and polyaxial screws. Results: In static tests, results of bending stiffness, yield load, yield torque and torsional stiffness indicated no significant differences between the modified and monoaxial screws (P〉0.05), but both differed significantly from those ofpolyaxial screws (P〈0.05). In dynamic compression tests, both modified and monoaxial screws showed failures that occurred at the insertion point of screw body into the UHMWPE block, while the polyaxial screw group showed screw body swung up and down the screw head because of loosening of the ball-in-cup mechanism. Conclusions: The modified screw is well-designed and biomechanically improved. And it can provide sufficient stability for segment fixation as monoaxial screws.展开更多
