Therapeutic and prophylactic efficacy of individual bioflavonoids as well as herbal medicines with bioflavonoids, was examined at an experimental pathology (toxic hepatitis, dental caries, periodontitis, stomatitis, dysbiosis, diabetes Types 1 and 2, gastric ulcer, osteopenia) in Wistar line rats. Condition of organs and tissues was assessed by biochemical markers of inflammation, antioxidant and antimicrobial defense systems of animals. Research has shown the ability ofbioflavonoids in varying degrees inhibit the formation of superoxide anion radicals and malondialdehyde, recover free radicals, bind ions of Fe2+, inhibiting the activity of proteases, such as leukocyte elastase. Established partially competitive type of trypsin and elastase activity inhibition by bioflavonoids. Was revealed a positive effect of bioflavonoids in experimental pathology on animals. Therapeutic and prophylactic effects of bioflavonoids, in our opinion, are realized through a strong antioxidant and antiprotease properties of these compounds.展开更多

METHODS: The databases of MEDLINE (1950- 2012), EMbase (1980-2012), China biology medicine (CBM) (1994-2012), China national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI) (1989-2012), Weipu (VIP) (1995-2012) and Wanfang (1989-2012) were searched and we performed manual searches for conference proceedings to select randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on Tianmagouteng decoction for the treatment of primary hypertension with liver Yang hyperactivity syndrome. Studies were en- rolled according to the study-selecting criteria. The methodological quality was evaluated, data were extracted and meta-analyses were conducted with RevMan 4.2 software. RESULTS: Nine RCTs were selected involving 784 patients with no significant difference in decrease in systolic blood pressure (SBP)[0R=1.02, 9.5% CI (-0.24, 2.29), P=0.10] and diastolic blood pressure(DBP) [OR=0.56, 95% CI (-0.10,1.23), P=0.11] between the Tianmagouteng group and the control group. While there was a significantly larger increase in serum superoxide dismutase (SOD)[OR= 6.26, 95% CI (1.27,11.66), P=0. 01] in the Tianmagouteng group than that in the control group CONCLUSION: Tianmagouteng decoction can decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure and greatly increase serum SOD. Due to poor quality of included studies, the efficacy needs to be further assessed.展开更多

Methods: Ninety-six SD rats were randomly divided into four groups: sham operation (saline 20 ml/kg), shock model (lipopolysaccharide, LPS, 8 mg/kg), Reformed Shengmai Yin (加味生脉饮 Pulse-activating Decoction) (LPS 8 mg/kg + reformed Shengmai Yin Injection 10 ml/kg), and dexamethasone (LPS 8 mg/kg + dexamethasone 5 mg/kg) groups. Each group was subdivided into 1 h, 2 h, 3 h, and 6 h time points for observation. The carotid artery was separated and connected with a biological functional system to monitor mean arterial pressure (MAP). Brain water levels, malonaldehyde (MDA) content, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were also determined. Results: In the shock model group, MAP was progressively decreased after injection of LPS, brain water and MDA contents were increased, brain SOD activity was decreased, and capillary vessel edema in brain tissue was also observed. All these parameters were improved significantly in both treatment groups, although the effects were more marked with Shengmai Yin than with dexamethasone. Conclusion: Modified Shengmai Yin exhibits strong anti-shock and neuroprotective effects against Endotoxininduced shock.展开更多

Methods: 90 cases of chloasma were randomly divided into the following two groups: a treatment group (of 54 cases) treated by a self-prepared prescription for toning the kidneys and relieving the depressed liver to remove blood stasis, ligustrazin hydrochloricde injection and He-Ne laser therapy, and a control group (of 36 cases) treated with oral administration of Vitamin E and Vitamin C plus external application of 20% Azelaic acid cream. Results: The total effective rate in the treatment group was 79.6%, which was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the LPO level in the treatment group was significantly lowered (P<0.01), and the SOD level was significantly elevated (P<0.05). Conclusion: The therapeutic methods adopted in the treatment group may show the action of antioxidation, providing good clinical effects for treating chloasma.展开更多

Herein, we proposed a nonplanar near-infrared(NIR)-absorbing hyperthermia and superoxide radical(O^(-)_(2)) photogenerator(TB) against hypoxic tumors. TB particularly possessed a favorable O^(-)_(2) generation capability under 808 nm laser irradiation with the donoracceptor-donor(D-A-D) molecular structure. Moreover, owing to molecular rotation, potent hyperthermia was realized under continuous laser irradiation. For the usage of hypoxic tumor treatment, TB was encapsulated by a block copolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(latic acid)(PEG_(45)-b-PLA_(24)), to fabricate phototheranostic nanoparticles(TB NPs). Due to the twisted molecular structure and the shielding effect of long alkyl chains, the π-π stacking-induced quenching of O^(-)_(2) could be reduced after the fabrication of nano-assemblies. Significantly, TB NPs exhibited satisfactory O^(-)_(2) generation for type I PDT and a simultaneously distinct photothermal conversion efficiency(PCE, 62%) for photothermal therapy(PTT)to combat hypoxic tumor cells. Moreover, the high PCE endowed TB NPs with high-performance photoacoustic(PA)and photothermal imaging capability. In vivo experiments demonstrated that TB NPs possessed an outstanding phototherapeutic efficacy for eradicating hypoxic tumors. This study established a novel approach for constructing oxygenindependent phototherapeutic reagent against hypoxic tumors.展开更多
