Multiple clinical examinations including photography of anterior segment, go-nioscopy and fundus, Humphrey perimetry, A-scan ultrasonography, multiple tonometry in a day and chromosome examination were performed. Most importantly, ultrasonic biomicro-scope(UBM) was first used to show the abnormalities of anterior segment in this syndrome. Results: Gonioscopic examination revealed many mesoderm tissues remained and some parts of the iris adhered to cornea . In addition to hypoplasia of cornea, iris and chamber angle, UBM showed that there was also hypoplasia of ciliary body. The result of the chomosome examination indicated normal. Conclusions: Rieger syndrome is an autosomal-dominated disorder with展开更多

METHODS: Thirty-six patients (14 females and 22 males, with an average age of 54.1 ± 14.1 years) with splenic abscess were treated with ultrasound guided PNA and/or PCD. Patients with splenic abscess < 50 mm in diameter were initially treated by PNA and those with abscess ≥ 50 mm and bilocular abscesses were initially treated by an 8-French catheter drainage. The clinical characteristics, underlying diseases, organism spectra, therapeutic methods, and mortality rates were analyzed. RESULTS: Twenty-seven patients had unilocular and 9 bilocular abscess. PNA was performed in 19 patients (52.8%), and 8 of them (42.1%) required PCD because of recurrence of abscess. In 17 patients (47.2%), PCD was performed initially. PCD was performed twice in six patients and three times in two. PNA was defi nitive treatment for 10 and PCD for 21 patients. One patient with PCD was referred for splenectomy, with successful outcome. In all 4 deceased patients, malignancy was the underlying condition. Twenty-one patients (58.3%) underwent 33 surgical interventions on abdomen before treatment. Cultures were positive in 30 patients (83.3%). Gram-negative bacillus predominated (46.7%). There were no complications related to the procedure. CONCLUSION: Percutaneous treatmnet of splenic abscess is an effective alternative to surgery, allowing preservation of the spleen. This treatment is especially indicative for the patients in critical condition postoperatively. We recommend PNA as primary treatment for splenic abscesses < 50 mm, and PCD for those ≥ 50 mm in diameter and for bilocular abscesses.展开更多

Firstly, the design ideas for a high performance UWB LFM waveform generator are described. Then, a generation scheme for UWB LFM waveforms is presented according to the baseband digital generation method combining with the bandwidth ex-tension method via frequency doubling. An experimental system has been implemented and tested. The results show that the UWB LFM waveform generator achieves very high performance.展开更多

METHODS A total of 40 male and female athymic nude mice were inoculated subcutaneously with 5×10^6 HepG2/ADM and HepG2 cells. Ultrasound with pulsed irradiation at an average intensity of 0.5 W/cm^2 was given to the tumor area 10 rain after administration of adriamycin (ADM). The tumor 3 dimensional diameters were measured by calipers before and after treatment, and the tumor growth indexes (TGI) calculated. RT-PCR was used to detect the gene levels of the HepG2/ADM cells. Immunohistochemical analyses for MDR proteins were conducted on the tumor tissues. RESULTS The ultrasonic treatment resulted in an average reduction in the tumor volume of 62% one month later. The relative mRNA levels of MDR1 and MRP were significantly different among the following 4 groups: untreated group as control, ADM treated; US treated; and ADM plus US treated. The mRNA levels of mdrl and mrp were down-regulated in the US groups compared to those of the non-ultrasound groups by multiple comparisons. The relative mRNA levels of Irp expression were not significantly changed. The results of immunohistochemistry indicated that tumor tissue from animals treated with US had remarkably low mdrl and mrp expression. CONCLUSION The results showed that low-intensity US can effectively reduce the size of adriamycin-resistant human hepotacarcinoma in a nude mouse model, and support the efficacy of US to overcome multiple mechanisms of drug resistance.展开更多

Highlighted are the use of a solution oxygen gauge, a pH value gauge and a surface tension gauge to investigate changes in the pulp nature related to changes in the oxygen content, the pH value and the interfacial tension. The temperature be- fore and after ultrasonic conditioning was also investigated. The results showed that ultrasonic conditioning resulted in a decrease in the oxygen content and the interracial tension and an increase in the pH value and the temperature of the pulp. The perfect index of flotation and the perfect index of desulphurization of fine coal increased by 25.19% and 18.03%, respectively, after the pulp was ultrasonically conditioned. This study shows that ultrasonic conditioning can change the pulp nature and enhance the degree of desulphurization during high-sulfur coal flotation.展开更多

These methods-mechanical disintegration, thermal hydrolysis and ultrasonic disintegration-are compared from the point of view of energy. This comparison requires knowledge of mass and heat balances.
