Furthermore, choosing a range of proper values for carcass stiffness is very essential for both tire safety and effective driving action. In this work,an elaborated 3D model fully compliant with the geometrical size of radial tire 185/60 R15 is worked up, for evaluating the effects of components properties and working conditions on deformation and stress/strain fields created inside the tire. For the simulation, the tire structure is assumed to be composed of tread, carcass ply, and bead. The mechanical behavior of rubber as main component of tire is described by Mooney-Rivlin material model. The comparison of the obtained results and laboratory tests demonstrates the validity and high accuracy of analysis.展开更多

With an increase in the introduction of corrugated steel web girders in recent highway bridge construction, the understanding of the fatigue behaviour of welded details in such structures becomes an important issue for the design. The typical welded details were represented as welded joints assembled by longitudinal corrugated plates. All the experiments were performed under fatigue loading using a servo-control testing machine. The test results from the failure mode observation with the aid of infrared thermo-graph technology show that the failure manner of these welded joints is comparable to that of the corrugated steel web beams reported previously. It is indicated from the stiffness degradation analysis that the welded joints with larger corrugation angle have higher stiffness and greater stiffness degradation in the notable stiffness degradation range. It is shown from the test S-N relations based on the free regression and forced regression analyses that there is a good linear dependence between lg(N) and lg(ΔS). It is also demonstrated that the proposed fracture mechanics analytical model is able to give a prediction slightly lower but on the safe side for the mean stresses at 2 million cycles of the test welded joints.展开更多

In the testing procedure, the SuperpaveTM Bending Beam Rheometer (BBR) with special modifications and binder blending charts by Asphalt Institute were utilized. Modifications involved the development of a new kind of sample mold and different testing parameters were made to BBR testing procedure to capture the theological properties of bitumen mortars produced by mixing fresh binder with fine RAP materials or RAP aggregate. The stiffness relationship between binder and bitumen mortar was established based on the BBR test results. The blended binder stiffness in bitumen RAP mortar was estimated from the RAP mortar stiffness based on the binder-mortar relationship. And finally, the RAP binder stiffness was estimated from the blended binder and fresh binder stiffness based on the blending charts by Asphalt Institute. The results indicate that the new procedure can capture the rheological properties of bitumen mortar and can be used to estimate the low temperature stiffness of RAP binder without binder extraction and/or any chemical treatments.展开更多

The results, obtained only for flexible pavements, were checked against the relevant results of full-scale trafficking tests conducted by the FAA (Federal Administration Aviation) at its National Airport Pavement Test Facility. The present study analyzes new FWD measurements and in-situ borings conducted on additional rigid and all-asphaltic runways and taxiways in Israel in order to formulate an updated correlative equation for these types of pavements. The paper concludes with an updated recommendation for the use of impact-stiffness modulus outputs from FWD measurements in order to determine the PCN of any type of pavement directly on the basis of local experience.展开更多

Besides, development of new constructive solutions for shock absorbers is quite popular development of their working mathematical models. This paper presents modem shock absorber with elastic block made from polymer elements that increase quantity of absorbed energy. This is achieved by increasing the stiffness characteristic of polymer elastic block. The construction is relatively simple and technology used to create the construction is with more or less low price. If there is not enough elastic stiffness of the polymer block, there is a possibility for not meeting the UIC (International Union of Railways) norms for absorbed energy. Therefore, according to the mentioned characteristic, shock absorbers are divided into three groups. The mathematical model presented in this paper allows calculating the necessary elastic characteristic of the polymer block for a short time. Differential equation of movement of the shock absorber elements is presented in this paper. Force change of polymer block for various impact velocities participates in the differential equation of movement where initial velocity V0 and the current meaning of the velocity x are taken into consideration. The presented equation is solved by using program language MATLAB/Simulink by developing a simulation model.展开更多

To do this, beginning on the traditional formulations, a new mathematical model has been proposed, and has been verified and confirmed with the real information of high speed railways. Finally, there has been obtained a simple expression that correlates simply the vertical stiffness of the railway with the vertical stiffness of the elements that compound it, essentially with the base plate and the ballast system set. On the other hand, also the accuracy of the model has been verified to select the stiffness of the base plate and the ballast system depending on one of this stiffness and the total vertical stiffness that it is wanted. With this simplified formula, it is possible to optimize the vertical stiffness of the railway to obtain the best behavior in each zone and to reduce the final cost of the use of the via, taking in consideration the energy needed to move the trains, the maintenance cost, the useful life, etc.. The process to optimize the railway stiffness in each point depends on the vertical stiffness of the ballast and the sub-ballast, and it is possible to use different plate bases with different stiffness to obtain the optimal stiffness that has been previously obtained with a cost and maintenance analysis.展开更多
