The effect of test methods and stress paths on the experimental value of the coefficient of earth pressure at rest, K0, was investigated under high pressures. The results indicate that the rigid pressure chamber and flexible lateral confining pressure medium method gives a stress ratio at the initial stage that is not the real K0. Moreover, K0 increases during the loading process becoming greater at high pressures. In the unloading process, however, K0 increases only at the initial stage but decreases thereafter. In addition, the incremental magnitude definition, K0=dσ3/dσ1, gives higher values than the total magnitude definition, K0=σ3/σ1, under loading. This is also true during initial stages of unloading. The experiment results also indicate that earth pressure at rest in deep and thick soils can be estimated by a power function of axial and confining pressures. It is necessary to choose the appropriate Kn to avoid some accidents. 展开更多

Large-scale field shear tests on ten specimens of the red-sandstone embankment at a highway in Hunan,China,were performed to examine mechanical characteristics and parameters of red-sandstone.The curves of thrust-displacement,failure mode,and shear strength parameters for red-sandstone with different water contents,different compactions,and different grain size distributions were obtained from the tests.A practical procedure of in-situ test for red-sandstone embankment was proposed to normalize the test equipment and test steps.Based on three-dimensional thrust-sliding limit equilibrium method,the formulas for calculating strength parameters of red-sandstone considering three-dimensional sliding surface were inferred.The results show that red-sandstone has typical complete curves of stress-strain,strain softening,which are caused by the special structure of red-sandstone;water content and compaction are important factors for strength and failure mode of red-sandstone;The average value of cohesion and internal friction angle of the specimens calculated by three-dimensional technique are 21.56 kPa and 29.29°,respectively,and those by traditional two-dimensional method are 25.52 kPa and 33.76°,respectively. 展开更多

According to the dominance relation of the E-frontier (evaluation frontier), we can prove that this algorithm can terminate unnecessary searching step of test pattern earlier than the EST algorithm through some examples, so this algorithm can reduce the time of test generation. Aimed at the generation of high-quality test set in the shortest possible time, the test generation for combinational circuits (CC) based on the chaotic particle swarm optimization (CPSO) algorithm is presented according to the analysis of existent problems of CC test generation, and an appropriate CPSO algorithm model has been constructed. With the help of fault simulator, the test set of ISCAS' 85 benchmark CC is generated using the CPSO, and some techniques are introduced such as half-random generation, and simulation of undetected fauhs.with original test vector, and inverse test vector. Experimental results show that this algorithm can generate the same fault coverage and small-size test set in short time compared with other known similar methods, which proves that the proposed method is applicable and effective. 展开更多

Non-cohesive soils have been widely used in construction of high-speed railway for their excellent physical and mechanical properties,and the determination of maximum and minimum dry density of such soils containing oversize particles is an important topic.In this study,the influence of oversize particles on dry density of non-cohesive soils is investigated by packing tests.Test results show that oversize particles will make"extra"voids around their surfaces,which increase significantly if the size ratio of oversize material to matrix material is not very big.The dry density of the total material will be overestimated by Elimination Method due to the omission of the"extra"voids.Thus,a geometric model is proposed by which the"extra"voids can be taken into account,and a new oversize correction method for non-cohesive soils is developed.Test results confirm the applicability of this method on the condition of oversize fraction being less than 40%by mass. 展开更多
