A 56-day feeding trial was performed to evaluate the effects of dietary probiotic Clostridium butyricum(CB) on intestine digestive and metabolic capacities, intestine short-chain fatty acids(SCFA) content and body com...A 56-day feeding trial was performed to evaluate the effects of dietary probiotic Clostridium butyricum(CB) on intestine digestive and metabolic capacities, intestine short-chain fatty acids(SCFA) content and body composition of kuruma shrimp Marsupenaeus japonicus. Shrimp s were randomly allocated into 9 tanks, 30 each, and f ed with diets containing different levels of C. butyricum(1×10~9 cfug^(-1)): 0 mgg^(-1) feed(Control), 100 mgg^(-1) feed(CB-100), 200 mgg^(-1) feed(CB-200), while each level was triplicated. The results indicated that compared with the control group, the intestine pepsin(Pep) activity and 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT) concentration of two C. butyricum group s were both increased. Amylase(AM Y) and lipase(LPS) activities wer e only induced in CB-200 group. Alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase(A ST) activities of two C. butyricum group s showed no significant change. The α-amylase(AM Y) gene expression was induced in CB-200 group, and tryp sin gene expression of two C. butyricum treated group s were both induced. Intestine SCFA content and body composition analysis showed that the contents of propionic acid, butyric acid and the crude protein of two C. butyricum group s were all higher than those of control. These results revealed that C. butyricum can modulate intestine digestive and metabolic capacities, improve intestine SCFA content and body crude protein content in M. japonicus.展开更多
Aging is associated with physiological declines, notably a decrease in bone mineral density (BMD) and lean body mass, with a concurrent increase in body fat and central adiposity. Interest in women and aging is of p...Aging is associated with physiological declines, notably a decrease in bone mineral density (BMD) and lean body mass, with a concurrent increase in body fat and central adiposity. Interest in women and aging is of particular interest partly as a result of gender specific responses to aging, particularly as a result of menopause. It is possible that the onset of menopause may augment the physiological decline associated with aging and inactivity. More so, a higher incidence of metabolic syndrome (an accumulation of cardiovascular disease risk factors including obesity, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high fasting glucose) has been shown in middle-aged women during the postmenopausal period. This is due in part to the drastic changes in body composition, as previously discussed, but also a change in physical activity (PA) levels. Sarcopenia is an age related decrease in the cross-sectional area of skeletal muscle fibers that consequently leads to a decline in physical function, gait speed, balance, coordination, decreased BMD, and quality of life. PA plays an essential role in combating physiological decline associated with aging. Maintenance of adequate levels of PA can result in increased longevity and a reduced risk for metabolic disease along with other chronic diseases. The aim of this paper is to review relevant literature, examine current PA guidelines, and provide recom- mendations specific to women based on current research.展开更多

Authentication data were repeated and masked by PN sequence. The simulation results show that the proposed approach can provide synchronization and authentication simultaneously for nodes in wireless sensor network (WSN). 63 bits AMC code gives above 99.97% synchronization detection and 93.98% authentication data detection probability in BER 0.031 7.展开更多

Thyroid ho...Thyroid hormones def ine basal metabolism throughout the body, particularly in the intestine and viscera. Gastrointestinal manifestations of dysthyroidism are numerous and involve all portions of the tract. Thyroid hormone action on motility has been widely studied, but more complex pathophysiologic mechanisms have been indicated by some studies although these are not fully understood. Both thyroid hormone excess and def iciency can have similar digestive manifestations, such as diarrhea, although the mechanism is different in each situation. The liver is the most affected organ in both hypo-and hyperthyroidism. Specifi c digestive diseases may be associated with autoimmune thyroid processes, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Grave's disease. Among them, celiac sprue and primary biliary cirrhosis are the most frequent although a clear common mechanism has never been proven. Overall, thyroid-related digestive manifestations were described decades ago but studies are still needed in order to conf irm old concepts or elucidate undiscovered mechanisms. All practitioners must be aware of digestive symptoms due to dysthyroidism in order to avoid misdiagnosis of rare but potentially lethal situations.展开更多
In view of the biblical kosher law of clean and unclean animals, the question of whether unclean animals could be reared or not in Ancient Israel becomes an ecological concern (Lev. 7:21; 11:26) for religious bodi...In view of the biblical kosher law of clean and unclean animals, the question of whether unclean animals could be reared or not in Ancient Israel becomes an ecological concern (Lev. 7:21; 11:26) for religious bodies today who still consider certain animals as unclean. A theological study of the law in the Pentateuch suggests that, in Ancient Israel, unclean animals were well catered for. Physical contact with live unclean animals did not render one unclean. Rather, uncleanness could be acquired through the touching of the carcass of clean or unclean animals (11:24-28, 38-39). As part of their stewardship ordained by God (Gen. 1:26), the people of Israel touched and reared/cared for unclean animals. Amongst other things, analysis of Gen. 1:26, in the Hebrew text, indicates that the primary purpose of human creation, as cosmic stewards over all creatures (including unclean animals), is underlined. Hence, contemporary religious bodies, who still consider certain animals as unclean, should have an unfeigned care and positive attitude towards all unclean animals.展开更多

The article deals with the question of the possibility of a new interpretation of Picasso’s picture entitled Crucifixion, which was created in the context of the art paradigm shift in the 1930s when the master focuse...The article deals with the question of the possibility of a new interpretation of Picasso’s picture entitled Crucifixion, which was created in the context of the art paradigm shift in the 1930s when the master focused his attention to the return to painting as a reference framework of myth and religion. But this return was only a turning point towards a modern understanding of the world and art from other sources. It should be noted that the problem of pictorial turn nowadays has a strong impact on the postmodern theology, which encompasses various cultural traditions, and also quite opposite philosophical attitudes. The article shows, thus, the inner relationship and connection between painting art and the search for transgression in the language that was the idea of Bataille. In the first part of this article, author tries to show the consequences of Bataille’s thinking of transgression; the second part has attempted to articulate the problems of interpretation of Picasso’s canvas Crucifixion; and concluding remarks is an attempt to review the emphasis on relationship with pictorial turn and transformations in the notion of contemporary art concerning the body as a sovereign event of the freedom and sacrifice.展开更多

AIM:To investigate glucose homeostasis and in particular gluconeogenesis in a large animal model of acute liver failure(ALF).METHODS:Six pigs with paracetamol induced ALF under general anaesthesia were studied over 25...AIM:To investigate glucose homeostasis and in particular gluconeogenesis in a large animal model of acute liver failure(ALF).METHODS:Six pigs with paracetamol induced ALF under general anaesthesia were studied over 25 h.Plasma samples were withdrawn every five hours from a central vein.Three animals were used as controls and were maintained under anaesthesia only.Using 1 H NMR spectroscopy we identified most gluconeogenic amino acids along with lactate and pyruvate in the animal plasma samples.RESULTS:No significant changes were observed in the concentrations of the amino acids studied in the animals maintained under anaesthesia only.If we look at the ALF animals,we observed a statistically significant rise of lactate(P<0.003)and pyruvate(P<0.018) at the end of the experiments.We also observed statistically significant rises in the concentrations of alanine(P<0.002),glycine(P<0.005),threonine(P< 0.048),tyrosine(P<0.000),phenylalanine(P<0.000) and isoleucine(P<0.01).Valine levels decreased significantly(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Our pig model of ALF is characterized by an altered gluconeogenetic capacity,an impaired tricarboxylic acid(TCA)cycle and a glycolytic state.展开更多
The 3rd Generation Partnership Project(3GPP)defined a new architecture,called Home eNode B(HeNB).The 3GPP has also presented a protocol for communications between HeNB and core networks for mutual authentication.To re...The 3rd Generation Partnership Project(3GPP)defined a new architecture,called Home eNode B(HeNB).The 3GPP has also presented a protocol for communications between HeNB and core networks for mutual authentication.To reduce the authentication costs associated with communication,computation and energy,this paper proposes a simple and low-cost re-authentication protocol that does not compromise the provided security services.The proposed protocol uses as the re-authentication parameter a Master Session Key(MSK)that has already been computed in the initial authentication,and does not require the full initial authentication to be repeated.Moreover,the proposed protocol does not modify the 3GPP infrastructure,and is easily applied to the HeNB system.Finally,the security of the proposed protocol is verified by Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and Applications(AVISPA)and Burrows-Abadi-Needham(BAN)Logic;detailed evaluations of performance are also given.The analysis results illustrate that the proposed protocol can achieve at least 50%cost reduction in communication and 58%cost reduction in energy.The computational cost is also reduced by half compared with the initial authentication.展开更多

This paper argues that, if the monster is seen not only as the product of Frankenstein's workshop of filthy creation, but also as the child from whom Frankenstein as parent recoils in horror; the works of Kiki Smith, Abigail Lane, and Cindy Sherman, created out of body parts, may also be considered hideous progenies of female creativity. Like Mary Shelley's gothic novel, the body, in the work of these three women artists, is not only the raw material of their art, but also the screen on which we project our bad dreams. Through the art of Smith, Lane, and Sherman, we can certainly feel the shudder of body horror that ripples through the Gothic canon from Frankenstein, whose manmade monster's yellow skin barely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath. Departing from their artistic examples, we will be able to perceive how the monstrous feminine in contemporary art can be grounded in a very famous hallmark work of Gothic literature.展开更多

In the process of China’s dynamic social changes over the past decades, the young-parent identity construction of an emerging middle class and the resulting changes of social-cultural values in this context have attr...In the process of China’s dynamic social changes over the past decades, the young-parent identity construction of an emerging middle class and the resulting changes of social-cultural values in this context have attracted the attention of academic research in recent years. With the focus on the discursive construction of parent identity, this study examines the utilization of first-person pronouns in three different interactional contexts, namely, parent-teacher interaction, parent-parent interaction, and parent-child interaction. The study further explores the patterns of alignment between the parents and their children, parents and teachers of their children, and peer parents during the process of identity construction, followed by a discussion of the implication that young, emerging middleclass Chinese parents fundamentally shape themselves as "concerned" and "involved" parents and the change of values between collectivity and agency. The study not only demonstrates the dynamic and pluralistic nature of parent identity but also deepens our understanding of the indexical roles of first-person pronouns in the discursive construction of emerging middle-class Chinese parent identity and its relationship with the recent social-cultural changes in the Chinese context.展开更多

文摘AIM:To investigate glucose homeostasis and in particular gluconeogenesis in a large animal model of acute liver failure(ALF).METHODS:Six pigs with paracetamol induced ALF under general anaesthesia were studied over 25 h.Plasma samples were withdrawn every five hours from a central vein.Three animals were used as controls and were maintained under anaesthesia only.Using 1 H NMR spectroscopy we identified most gluconeogenic amino acids along with lactate and pyruvate in the animal plasma samples.RESULTS:No significant changes were observed in the concentrations of the amino acids studied in the animals maintained under anaesthesia only.If we look at the ALF animals,we observed a statistically significant rise of lactate(P<0.003)and pyruvate(P<0.018) at the end of the experiments.We also observed statistically significant rises in the concentrations of alanine(P<0.002),glycine(P<0.005),threonine(P< 0.048),tyrosine(P<0.000),phenylalanine(P<0.000) and isoleucine(P<0.01).Valine levels decreased significantly(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Our pig model of ALF is characterized by an altered gluconeogenetic capacity,an impaired tricarboxylic acid(TCA)cycle and a glycolytic state.

文摘The 3rd Generation Partnership Project(3GPP)defined a new architecture,called Home eNode B(HeNB).The 3GPP has also presented a protocol for communications between HeNB and core networks for mutual authentication.To reduce the authentication costs associated with communication,computation and energy,this paper proposes a simple and low-cost re-authentication protocol that does not compromise the provided security services.The proposed protocol uses as the re-authentication parameter a Master Session Key(MSK)that has already been computed in the initial authentication,and does not require the full initial authentication to be repeated.Moreover,the proposed protocol does not modify the 3GPP infrastructure,and is easily applied to the HeNB system.Finally,the security of the proposed protocol is verified by Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and Applications(AVISPA)and Burrows-Abadi-Needham(BAN)Logic;detailed evaluations of performance are also given.The analysis results illustrate that the proposed protocol can achieve at least 50%cost reduction in communication and 58%cost reduction in energy.The computational cost is also reduced by half compared with the initial authentication.
文摘The expression "My Hideous Progeny" is widely known to be taken from Mary Shelley's preface to the revised edition of Frankenstein (1831), in which she wrote, of the novel itself and of its creature, Frankenstein's monster. This paper argues that, if the monster is seen not only as the product of Frankenstein's workshop of filthy creation, but also as the child from whom Frankenstein as parent recoils in horror; the works of Kiki Smith, Abigail Lane, and Cindy Sherman, created out of body parts, may also be considered hideous progenies of female creativity. Like Mary Shelley's gothic novel, the body, in the work of these three women artists, is not only the raw material of their art, but also the screen on which we project our bad dreams. Through the art of Smith, Lane, and Sherman, we can certainly feel the shudder of body horror that ripples through the Gothic canon from Frankenstein, whose manmade monster's yellow skin barely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath. Departing from their artistic examples, we will be able to perceive how the monstrous feminine in contemporary art can be grounded in a very famous hallmark work of Gothic literature.

文摘Growth is a polygenic trait that is under the influence of multiple physiological pathways regulating energy metabolism and muscle growth.Among the possible growth-regulating pathways in vertebrates,components of the somatotropic axis are thought to have the greatest influence.There is growing body of literature focusing on the somatotropic axis and its role regulating growth in fish.This includes research into growth hormone,upstream hypothalamic hormones,insulin-like growth factors,and downstream signaling molecules.Many of these signals have both somatic effects stimulating the growth of tissues and metabolic effects that play a role in nutrient metabolism.Signals of other endocrine axes exhibit profound effects on the function of the somatotropic axis in vivo.In this review we highlight recent advances in our understanding of the teleost fish endocrine somatotropic axis,including emerging research using genetic modified models.These studies have revealed new aspects and challenges associated with regulation of the important steps of somatic growth.

文摘In the process of China’s dynamic social changes over the past decades, the young-parent identity construction of an emerging middle class and the resulting changes of social-cultural values in this context have attracted the attention of academic research in recent years. With the focus on the discursive construction of parent identity, this study examines the utilization of first-person pronouns in three different interactional contexts, namely, parent-teacher interaction, parent-parent interaction, and parent-child interaction. The study further explores the patterns of alignment between the parents and their children, parents and teachers of their children, and peer parents during the process of identity construction, followed by a discussion of the implication that young, emerging middleclass Chinese parents fundamentally shape themselves as "concerned" and "involved" parents and the change of values between collectivity and agency. The study not only demonstrates the dynamic and pluralistic nature of parent identity but also deepens our understanding of the indexical roles of first-person pronouns in the discursive construction of emerging middle-class Chinese parent identity and its relationship with the recent social-cultural changes in the Chinese context.
