According to the difference between common buildings and cable cars, problems of height non-uniformity of equivalent section caused by inclination of the cable car and diversity of lightning activity regularity caused by the large area were resolved, and expected annual average frequency of lightning strike was calculated using three dimensional graphic approach and regional lightning characteristic analysis. Based on different types of damage process and loss consequences, according to interception effect against lightning invasion of the lightning protection measures and the method of probability selection proposed in the standard, the probability of casu- alty caused by direct lightning strike in a cable car and a waiting area as well as probabilities of casualty caused by failure of electronic information systems were cal- culated.展开更多

The algorithm incorporates the external power sys...In this paper, a modified transient finite element (FE) algorithm for the performance analysis of magnetically levitated vehicles of electromagnetic type is presented. The algorithm incorporates the external power system and vehicle’s movement equations into FE model of transient magnetic field computation directly. Sliding interface between stationary and moving region is used during the transient analysis. The periodic boundaries are implemented in an easy way to reduce the computation scale. It is proved that this method can be used for both electro-motional static and dynamic cases. The test of a transformer and an EMS-Maglev system reveals that the method generates reasonable results at very low computational costs comparing with the transient FE analysis.展开更多

Analyses results in detail on the funetional design and ex-periments on work bench of each part were also presented, which validated the reliability of the system. Furthermore, driving results in field of the bus verified the feasibility of the design of the drivetrain sys-tem. New approach to the design of electrode materials and electrochemical systems followed by the improved design of ultracapacitor cell...Novel carbon-carbon ultracapacitors and hybrid lithium-carbon devices are described. New approach to the design of electrode materials and electrochemical systems followed by the improved design of ultracapacitor cells and modules have resulted in prototypes of superior performance that was verified by independent tests in the Institute of Transportation Studies, UC (ultracapacitor) Davis, in JME Inc., in Wayne State University, and in some other labs. All the test results confirm the superlative performance of the devices developed: carbon-carbon ultracapacitors demonstrate the extremely low inner resistance resulting in the highest power capability and efficiency that also alleviates the cooling requirements and improves safety. Our "parallel" hybrid devices demonstrate substantially higher energy density than competing LIC (lithium ion capacitor) technologies keeping at the same time the high power density, comparable with the best carbon-carbon ultracapacitors available in the market. In order to make ultracapacitor technology even more attractive to automakers, new organic electrolytes (not ionic liquids) have been developed and are currently under testing at temperatures about 100 ℃ and voltages up to 3.0 V.展开更多

On the other hand, as a characterized orthodox technology', the existing chopper circuit is used for the electric vehicles, etc.. Such technologies have a tendency to go out of vogue as power supplies for such vehicles. However, as a boost chopper for the battery charger for an electric vehicle, those technologies become a main stream, where a bilateral function is required. With the foregoing in mind, the authors have devised and analyzed the bilateral chopper using the soft-switch technology, which could be applied to a battery charger for an electric vehicle or similar.展开更多

The United States and China are the world's largest automobile markets and oil consumers, and both face a severe challenge to conserve energy and reduce tailpipe emissions. Thus, both countries urgently need to tr...The United States and China are the world's largest automobile markets and oil consumers, and both face a severe challenge to conserve energy and reduce tailpipe emissions. Thus, both countries urgently need to transform conventional internal combustion engines to electrified powertrains. Targeting the advanced core technologies of plug-in electric vehicles(PEVs), a joint research collaboration between China and the US, called the "Clean Vehicle Consortium"(CVC), was set up in 2010. Six years of collaboration on PEV technologies has resulted in significant progress in three technical areas. Based on CVC publications,we review herein the progress made by the CVC research efforts on three key advanced PEV technologies. This includes the development of a safe battery with an energy density of 260 W h kg^(-1) and a systematic method for designing safe traction battery systems. Thus, a breakthrough in high power density and efficient traction motor systems has occurred. In addition to discussing advanced electric-drive powertrains, we also discuss global energy management strategies that aim to improve PEV energy efficiency. This discussion covers scientific and comprehensive analysis methods to analyze energy systems, which include costbenefit analyses of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, life-cycle assessments for evaluating vehicle emissions, and PEV-ownership projections.展开更多
