The flow patterns and their transitions of oil-water two-phase flow in horizontal pipes were studied. The experiments were conducted in two kinds of horizontal tubes, made of plexiglas pipe and stainless steel pipe wi...The flow patterns and their transitions of oil-water two-phase flow in horizontal pipes were studied. The experiments were conducted in two kinds of horizontal tubes, made of plexiglas pipe and stainless steel pipe with 40 mm ID respectively. No. 46 mechanical oil and tap water were used as working fluids. The superflcial velocity ranges of oil and water were: 0.04-1.2m·s-1 and 0.04-2.2m·s-1, respectively. The flow patterns were identified by visualization and by transient fluctuation signals of differential pressure drop. The flow patterns were defined according to the relative distribution of oil and water phases in the pipes. Flow pattern maps were obtained for both pipelines. In addition, semi-theoretical transition criteria for the flow patterns were proposed, and the proposed transitional criteria are in reasonable agreement with available data in liquid-liquid systems.展开更多
The wave characteristics affecting coastal sediment transport include wave height, wave period and breaking wave direction. Wave height is a critical factor in determining the amount of sediment transport in the coast...The wave characteristics affecting coastal sediment transport include wave height, wave period and breaking wave direction. Wave height is a critical factor in determining the amount of sediment transport in the coastal area. The force of sediment transport is much more intense under breaking waves than under non-breaking waves. Breaking waves exhibit various patterns, principal- ly depending on the incident wave steepness and the beach slope. Based on the equations of con- servation of mass, momentum and energy, a theoretical model for wave deformation in and outside the surf zone was obtained, which is used to calculate the wave shoaling, wave set-up and set- down and wave height distributions in and outside the surf zone. The analysis and comparison were made about the breaking point location and the wave height decay caused by the wave breaking and the bottom friction. Flume experiments relating to the spilling wave height distribution across the surf zone were conducted to verify the theoretical model. Advanced wave maker, data sampling de- vices and data processing system were utilized in the flume experiments with a slope covered by sands of different diameters to facilitate the observation and research on the wave transformation and breaking. The agreement between the theoretical and experimental results is good.展开更多
Exhaustion of profitable coal resources makes for need of innovation including underground coal gasification(UCG).One of the most important problems of UCG is evaluation of the combustion area in underground coal seam...Exhaustion of profitable coal resources makes for need of innovation including underground coal gasification(UCG).One of the most important problems of UCG is evaluation of the combustion area in underground coal seams.Physicochemical parameters of coal,in a whole,and coal mineral substance are changed under heating and combusting.Thermo-chemical conversion of coal mineral components has an effect on magnetic characteristics of coal seam and can be used for real-time control of combusting area.To this guessing check laboratory experiments have been made as an activity of the Far Eastern Federal University.Our investigation based on a theoretical analysis and laboratory simulation tests.Typical results of the laboratory experiments are presented below.Under heating coal thermo-chemical magnetization is forming.Coal's magnetic parameters varieties from anti-ferromagnetiсto ferromagnetic.Anti-ferromagnetic pyrite and siderite presented into coal mass is transformed into magnetic hematite and magnetite under heating.Therefore,geomagnetic is expected to be a useful geophysical tool to for evaluation of combustion volume and its migration for underground coal gasification.展开更多

The proposed converter consists of highly efficient non-isolated cell converters using bidirectional semiconductor power devices, and these cell converters are connected in ISOP (input series and output parallel). The non-isolated ISOP converter achieves high step-down ratio of D/N, operating N cell converters under the duty ratio olD. Availability of the proposed converter has been shown by developing the 48 V-12 V laboratory prototype using two 24 V-12 V cell converters. Design consideration for the 48 V-3 V multicellular converter using four 12 V-3 V cell converters has been also conducted, and the potential to approach the efficiency of 97% has been discussed. The proposed topology is suitable for the POL (point of load) converters in the highly efficient next generation DC distribution system for data centers.展开更多

A floating type pendulum wave energy converter(FPWEC) with a rotary vane pump as the power take-off system was proposed by Watabe et al.in 1998.They showed that this device had high energy conversion efficiency.In the...A floating type pendulum wave energy converter(FPWEC) with a rotary vane pump as the power take-off system was proposed by Watabe et al.in 1998.They showed that this device had high energy conversion efficiency.In the previous research,the authors conducted 2D wave tank tests in regular waves to evaluate the generating efficiency of FPWEC with a power take-off system composed of pulleys,belts and a generator.As a result,the influence of the electrical load on the generating efficiency was shown.Continuously,the load characteristics of FPWEC are pursued experimentally by using the servo motors to change the damping coefficient in this paper.In a later part of this paper,the motions of the model with the servo motors are compared with that of the case with the same power take-off system as the previous research.From the above experiment,it may be concluded that the maximum primary conversion efficiency is achieved as high as 98%at the optimal load.展开更多
The prediction of laminar-turbulent transition in boundary layer is very important for obtaining accurate aerodynamic characteristics with computational fluid dynamic(CFD)tools,because laminar-turbulent transition is ...The prediction of laminar-turbulent transition in boundary layer is very important for obtaining accurate aerodynamic characteristics with computational fluid dynamic(CFD)tools,because laminar-turbulent transition is directly related to complex flow phenomena in boundary layer and separated flow in space.Unfortunately,the transition effect isn’t included in today’s major CFD tools because of non-local calculations in transition modeling.In this paper,Menter’sγ-Re_θtransition model is calibrated and incorporated into a Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)code-Trisonic Platform(TRIP)developed in China Aerodynamic Research and Development Center(CARDC).Based on the experimental data of flat plate from the literature,the empirical correlations involved in the transition model are modified and calibrated numerically.Numerical simulation for low-speed flow of Trapezoidal Wing(Trap Wing)is performed and compared with the corresponding experimental data.It is indicated that theγ-Re_θtransition model can accurately predict the location of separation-induced transition and natural transition in the flow region with moderate pressure gradient.The transition model effectively imporves the simulation accuracy of the boundary layer and aerodynamic characteristics.展开更多
This paper presents an experimental investigation of the influence of a transversal flow deflector on the cooling of a heated block mounted on a flat plate.The deflector is inclined and therefore it guides the air flo...This paper presents an experimental investigation of the influence of a transversal flow deflector on the cooling of a heated block mounted on a flat plate.The deflector is inclined and therefore it guides the air flow to the upper surface of the block.This configuration is simulating the air-cooling of a rectangular integrated circuit or a current converter mounted on an electronic card.The electronic component is assumed dissipating low heat power,as such,air forced convection is still a sufficient cooling way even without fan or heat sink on the component.The measurements are given by hot and cold wires anemometers and by an InfraRed camera.The results give details of the effects of the deflection on the hydrodynamic and the thermal fields on and over the block for different inclination angles.They show that the deviation caused by the deflector may significantly enhance the heat transfer from the component.Deflection is also able to avoid local overheating of the electronic component.Optimum heat transfer rate and homogenised temperature are shown to be obtained with an inclination angle =30°.展开更多
