Cost benefit ratio model and stage rolled method are chosen as the theoretical foundations of the program, and then benefit model is improved to accord with the actuality of urban traffic in China. Consequently, program flows, module functions and data structures are designed, and particularly an original data structure of road ...展开更多

The evolution of any single city brings to light the fact that architecture and town planning have often expressed more than a merely stereotyped conception of "style", wherever its most significant achievements have responded to structural needs. For "sustainable urban development" we may assume the necessity of a "priority vision", according to which economic, ecologic and social potentials should be valued. This paper questions the notion of urban sustainability considering the port of Alexandria and is region at various levels. Today extending for many miles along the sea coast, the city entered a period of crisis in the 1950s when a mass exodus of foreigners followed transfer of the main activities to Cairo, while the surrounding area was subject to reclamation work as part of a plan for national development. An important event occurred in 1989 with the rebuilding of Alexandria's world-famous library, bringing with it a hope for revival of the city's ecumenical tradition and of the place it formerly held in world culture. While most of its five million inhabitants survive in a variety of unauthorised settlements and the rural areas have suffered severely from the pollution of Lake Maryut Alexandria is expanding by creation of"gated communities", paralleled by intensive building for tourism along the western coast. This growing trend towards the "American way of life" is destroying any identity of place. Criticizing the unsustainability of the Alexandria of today, this paper focuses on potentials for polycentric development of the city as a vital part of its region and the Nile Delta, also considering that debate is in progress on the accomplishment of important infrastructural projects that may offer fresh opportunities for involving the topography and centuries-old life of the metropolis in designing the future city.展开更多

The Park presents a particularity in its configuration: it is crossed by an important avenue in the city that splits it in two portions linked by an elevated pedestrian path. The two portions of the park have different accessibility degrees and intensity of use due to -- we believed -- the way they are inserted in the urban pattern. Both the barrier caused by the avenue crossing the park and the differences of connectedness of each portion to its surrounding grid result in the level of integration occurring in different ways, turning the east portion less intensely used. The all-line and visibility integration maps showed that this was the case, and confirmed that spatial configuration plays an important role in rendering the east portion less integrated and in explaining the more intense use of the west portion. Integration maps showed that the most integrated areas are indeed the most used ones, although line and visibility integration differed slightly as to the exact location. This difference was probably due to the way barriers were modeled, since permeability took into account the paths while visibility considered all the ground as a whole, provided there were no barriers to sight. Another explanation for the difference is the lake located at the center of the west portion which contributed to this location's visual integration but, on the other hand, displaced line integration to the larger convex space to the north.展开更多

GPR has been used to delineate contamination plumes, to aid in geological modelling, to detect buried structures and in archaeological surveys. This paper describes and discusses the results ofa GPR site investigation carried out at Gramacho Municipal Solid Waste Landfill in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A field study was conducted to detect failure surfaces in its slopes and within the waste mass. The results have shown that: (l) Slip surfaces could be indicated by small continuous voids within the waste mass since there is a good contrast between the dielectric constant of air and municipal waste; (2) Greenhouse gases pools could also be indicated by large voids within the waste mass since there is a good contrast between the dielectric constant of carbon dioxide, methane and municipal waste; (3) Leachate pools present a high electric conductivity that could be easily detected by GPR.展开更多
