Mathematical model of slotting manufacture and simulation for cosine gears

A slotting method for cosine gears was proposed by using the involute cutter based on the conjugate theories of digital surface and gear meshing. The slotting model between the cosine tooth surface represented by discrete points and the cutter figuration determined by analytic function was built for their geometrical relationship and conjugate motion during the machining process. Conjugate points in the cutter section corresponding to the discrete points on the cosine gear tooth surface and the conjugate movements were solved. By using the flexible control of the CNC procedure, the active control of the cutting trace of the slotting cutter was accomplished and the envelop forming of the cosine gear was obtained. Based on the software C++ and Matlab, the computer aided manufacturing(CAM) system of the cosine gear was developed, and the simulation of the slotting process was accomplished. Several examples were provided to illustrate the approach. The result of the simulation demonstrates that the proposed slotting method is feasible. 展开更多

The components of jet engine have been analyzed based on mechanical design concept. An attempt has been to select materials based on sustainability and green design considerations. The energy content (e) of the materials has been one of the parameters for material selection. The choice of material has a substantial impact on cost, manuthcturing process, and the life cycle efficiency. All components nose cone, fan blade, inlet shaft, including compressor has been solid modeled using Siemens NX 11.0 CAD software. The finite element analysis of every component was performed and found safe. A tolerance analysis was performed before assembly of the turbofan engine. A numerical analysis was completed on blade and inlet geometries to determine a more efficient turbofan engine. Thermal analysis was executed oi1 the cone and suitable corrections were made. Finally, the cost and the total energy were estimated to show how much energy is needed to manufacture a turbofan jet engine. 展开更多

The required grinding wheel profile for a flute production was expressed in digitized form as well as in terms of two curve-fitted circular arcs. The drill flute profile geometry can never be precisely generated when required grinding wheel profile is represented by two circular arcs and the generated flute profile is just a very good approximation of the design flute profile. Open Contours Extraction of Rotational Surface Oriented to Layer Measurement

The extraction can be divided into two stages, i. e. the rough segmentation and the refinement. In the rough segmenting stage, an optimal contour matching method is put forward to find similar contour segment from another closed contour with respect to the seed contour. In the refining stage, an iterative way that can extract a circular arc precisely is presented based on parameters identification and contour-ends expanding/shrinking operation. The algorithm can extract the open contour segments from a rotational surface precisely, as demonstrated in the examples. Based on the work of this paper, further research, such as parameter identification of 3 - D surface and CAD model creation, can be conducted. 展开更多

Currently, engineering processes require reduced manufacturing time and low cost, in addition to the growing demand for workpieces with high accuracy. Workpieces with complex geometries and free forms has been a common practice in industries from different sectors such as: automotive, aeronautics, bioengineering among others. One way to satisfy the market requirements satisfactorily is making measurements more efficient to make the production process faster, in other words, it is necessary to make the inspection system more accurate and flexible. The coordinate measuring evolved over the past three decades and today it is the technology that best meets the requirements of modem manufacturing through CMMs (coordinate measurement machines). The CMMs are important tool for design, fabrication and inspection of manufactured products, also used in the application of reverse engineering. These machines are also used by engineers in order to produce an accurate digital model in a virtual space for later use in CAD (computer-aided design)/CAM (computer-aided manufacturing). It is worth mentioning that the accuracy of the modeling process of given piece depends on the number of control points that are captured on the workpiece surface. Consequently, the laser inspection systems are the best tools for use in reverse engineering, but more expensive when compared to contact measurement systems that use the TTP (touch trigger probe), also used by CMMs. In this case, this paper aims to present an approach based on NURBS (non-uniform rational B-splines) to obtain free form curves and surfaces from a group of points obtained by using a contact sensor, the touch trigger probe. NURBS is an important mathematical tool and consists of generalizations of Bezier curves and surfaces and B-splines. The approach proposed in this paper can be applied for obtaining free form curves and surfaces in spur and helical gears. Experimental results obtained by measuring spur gears showed that the NURBS technique contributes for application of CMMs with touch trigger probe in reverse engineering. 展开更多

In addition, in the last years, the multi domain design has been supported by the continuous development of software for computer-aided design and the unceasing increase of the connection between performances and computer costs: the final aim is to propose the instruments that assist the designer throughout all the steps of the project. The multi domain design, illustrated in this article, is based on how to design the wind turbine, and it is not about process management and manufacturability. Vehicle collision avoidance system is a kind of auxiliary driving system based on vehicle active safety,which can assist the driver to take the initiative to avoid obstacles under certain conditions,so as to effectively improve the driving safety of vehicle.This paper presents a collision avoidance system for an autonomous vehicle based on an active front steering,which mainly consists of a path planner and a robust tracking controller.A path planner is designed based on polynomial parameterization optimized by simulated annealing algorithm,which plans an evasive trajectory to bypass the obstacle and avoid crashes.The dynamic models of the AFS system,vehicle as well as the driver model are established,and based on these,a robust tracking controller is proposed,which controls the system to resist external disturbances and work in accordance with the planning trajectory.The proposed collision avoidance system is testified through CarSim and Simulink combined simulation platform.The simulation results show that it can effectively track the planning trajectory,and improve the steering stability and anti-interference performance of the vehicle. 展开更多
