For this purpose a sample of 72 deals carded out during the period of 1994-2005 were examined using the ＂event study＂ methodology. These deals were subdivided into three sections： acquisitions, mergers and M＆As. The results obtained seem to suggest a creation of value for the target companies and a destruction of value for the bidders in all three cases. From the analysis of the combined values, on the other hand, a significant destruction of value is deduced in both mergers and in M＆As.展开更多

However, the effects of droughts on net primary productivity(NPP) in Northeast China remain unclear. In this paper, the droughts that occurred in Northeast China between 1999 and 2013 were identified using the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index(SPEI). The NPP standardized anomaly index(NPP-SAI) was used to evaluate NPP anomalies. The years of 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2007 were further investigated in order to explore the influence of droughts on NPP at different time scales(3, 6, and 12 months). Based on the NPP-SAI of normal areas, we found droughts overall decreased NPP by 112.06 Tg C between 1999 and 2013. Lower temperatures at the beginning of the growing season could cause declines in NPP by shortening the length of the growing season. Mild drought or short-term drought with higher temperatures might increase NPP, and weak intensity droughts intensified the lag effects of droughts on NPP.展开更多

[Objective] The aim was to effectively monitor and manage oriental fruit fly.[Method] Maxent model and ArcGIS were used to predict potential geographic distributions of the oriental fruit fly based on associations bet...[Objective] The aim was to effectively monitor and manage oriental fruit fly.[Method] Maxent model and ArcGIS were used to predict potential geographic distributions of the oriental fruit fly based on associations between known occurrence records and a set of environmental variables.[Result] The suitable areas for Bactrocera dorsalis infestations were mainly restricted to central and southern Jiangxi Province,with Latitude ranged from 24 to 28°N.Northeast Jiangxi,Northwest Jiangxi and the regions bording upon Yangtse River were predicted as unsuitable for Bactrocera dorsalis.The fit for the model as measured by AUC was high,with value of 0.978 for the training data and 0.965 for the test data,indicating the high level of discriminatory power for the Maxent.A jackknife test in Maxent indicated that mean temperature of coldest quarter with highest gain value was the most important environmental variable that restricted the expansion to north Jiangxi Province.[Conclusion] Further research into the biology of the species and their ability to overcome barriers was necessary to explain niche differentiation and better understand invasion risk.展开更多

For example, some synesthetes experience a color when they hear a sound or see a letter. In this paper, I examine two cases of synesthesia in light of the notions of ＂experiential parts＂ and ＂conscious unity.＂ I first provide some background on the unity of consciousness and the question of experiential parts. I then describe two very different cases of synesthesia. Finally, I critically examine the cases in light of two central notions of＂unity.＂ I argue that there is good reason to think that the neural ＂vehicles＂ of conscious states are distributed widely and can include multiple modalities. I also argue that some synesthetie experiences do not really enjoy the same ＂object unity＂ associated with normal vision.展开更多

The different Bible translations use different translation principles, therefore, they show different...The purpose of Bible translation is to enable readers to fully understand what the Bible says in their own context. The different Bible translations use different translation principles, therefore, they show different translated results from each other. In general, translators will make translation choices between the “word-for-word translation” and “sense-for-sense translation”. A good translation usually has two translation choices and the difference is just which kind of choice to use more. In addition to this, whether the same word can be translated consistently is also worthy of being discussed, especially in the case of a proper noun or vocabulary with special meaning. If a vocabulary with special meaning in the Bible is translated into different words, it is not only impossible to clarify the conceptual connection or logical relationship between certain words in the Bible, but also makes it possible for readers who read different Bible translations to have the different understanding of the vocabulary. Under the influence of globalization, Christian communication has become more frequent. After different readers read different Bible translations, the problem of inconsistent understanding of the same word or paragraph will be gradually revealed. This article uses the Greek word “ψυχη” to explore the above issues. “ψυχη” is a vocabulary with special meaning in the New Testament and it is mostly discussed in the anthropology of Christian theology. This article compares three English Bible translations and six Chinese Bible translations on the Greek word “ψυχη” and then finds that the Greek word “ψυχη was translated into multiple different words in a single Bible translation and in different Bible translations. This situation shows that the difference in translation may make the readers of different Bible translations have different understandings after reading.展开更多
