Simvastatin,a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitor,is widely prescribed to patients with hypercholesteremia and its muscular toxicity has been widely reported.The metabolism of simvastatin depends...Simvastatin,a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitor,is widely prescribed to patients with hypercholesteremia and its muscular toxicity has been widely reported.The metabolism of simvastatin depends on the enzymic activity of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and inhibitors of CYP3A4 can result in clinical events by interacting with simvastatin.Diltiazem is a moderate inhibitor of CYP3A4,which is known to increase the serum concentration of simvastatin.Here we report a patient with unrecognized hypothyroidism who had been stable for more than one year on low-dose simvastatin therapy of hypercholesteremia and rhabdomyolysis occurred with the addition of diltiazem.This is one of scanty reports of rhabdomyolysis induced by simvastatindiltiazem drug interaction,especially in hypothyroid patient.This case reminds the clinicians that although diltiazem as a moderate CYP3A4 inhibitor can be used cautiously with small doses of CYP3A4-dependent statius (eg,simvastatin),these two commonly used drugs should be avoided in hypothyroid patient.展开更多

In flow cytometry, OCC brought about a block at the G1 phase of HL 60 cell cycle. OCC inhibited strongly the synthesis of DNA without affecting the synthesis of RNA and protein in HL 60 cells and also activated the c AMP dependent protein kinase in the cytosol of HL 60 cells. 8 Chloroadenosine is the active metabolite of OCC and inhibited significantly the growth of tumour in vitro and in vivo tests. 8 Chloroadenosine can induce differentiation of gastric mucoid adenocarcinoma cell line MGc80 3 and induce apoptosis in the MOLT 4 cells. The mechanism of the antitumour effects of 8 chloroadenosine was discussed.展开更多

This technology adopts non-noble metal catalysts and a highly integrated two-stage process scheme featuring low investment and operating cost and convenience in operation. Under an appropriate process regime the DDA-Ⅱ technology can process FCC LCO, a blend of straight-run diesel and FCC LCO, or the SR diesel to yield the diesel product streams meeting the Euro-Ⅳ or even higher emission standards.展开更多

Meanwhile, we analyze the effect of the whole parameters of the top surface, present their influence on the polarization of each layer (including the mean polarization of the whole ferroeleetric superlattiee) and on the Curie temperature. The results show the ratio of the exchange interactions (the transverse fields), which are of the two alternating materials have deeply impact on the polarization and Curie temperature of the supperlattice. Moreover, the top surface also has great influence on the whole ferroelectric superlattice.展开更多
In the present study, the chemical composition, antinociceptive effect and acute toxicity of essential oils(EOs) of Asarum heterotropoides Fr. Schmidt var. mandshuricum(Maxim.) Kitag.(AHM), A. sieboldii Miq. var...In the present study, the chemical composition, antinociceptive effect and acute toxicity of essential oils(EOs) of Asarum heterotropoides Fr. Schmidt var. mandshuricum(Maxim.) Kitag.(AHM), A. sieboldii Miq. var. seoulense Nakai(ASS) and A. himalaicum Hook. f. et Thoms. ex Klotzsch.(AH) were comparatively evaluated. A total of 55 compounds were identified in EOs of AHM, ASS and AH by GC-MS. Methyleugenol(20.16%–62.89%), safrole(2.67%–32.42%), 3,5-dimethoxytoluene(2.00%–18.59%) and eucarvone(1.52%–19.16%) were the major constituents of EO of AHM, and methyleugenol(48.35%–61.06%), eucarvone(11.13%–13.93%) and elemicin(4.79%–11.14%) were the major constituents of EO of ASS. The EO of AH was different from that of AHM and ASS, in which patchouli alcohol(27.42%–51.95%) and elemicin(13.11%–42.23%) were found in a greater amount. Moreover, the antinociceptive effect of EOs of AHM(5.5, 11.0, 16.5 μL/kg) and AH(2.0, 4.0, 6.0 μL/kg) was comparatively assayed in acetic acid-induced writhing, hot plate and formalin tests. The results indicated a weak central, but potent peripheral antinociceptive effect of EO of AHM, and more potent central and peripheral antinociceptive effect of EO of AH. The LD50 of the EOs of AHM and AH were 1.7 and 7.7 mL/kg, respectively. These findings suggest that EOs of AHM and AH possess evident antinociceptive activity and are probably safe within the range of its clinical doses. However, their chemical compositions are quite different. Therefore, AH can be clinically used as an herbal medicinal product with broad analgesic effects, but should not be confused with AHM and ASS used in traditional Chinese medicine.展开更多

In our Autonomous Learning Modules (ALMS) at Helsin...This article explores the potential of the narrative educational processes of autobiographical writing and interactive storytelling for foreign language education. In our Autonomous Learning Modules (ALMS) at Helsinki University Language Centre, students write various autobiographical texts as part of their language portfolios. The texts are discussed in the face-to-face counseling meetings. Finnish students' learner identities are influenced by the competitive role of English in Finland: mastering English is a must, and not mastering English can single them out as failures. This is especially true of self-identified "different" learners whose previous language learning experiences and classroom situations have caused them anxiety. In ALMS, counselors engage them in sharing stories about past learning experiences as a way of supporting them in planning their personal study programs. Storytelling also helps them to explore their "wounded" learner identities by creating safe spaces for reflexive self- study. The practice and research of such storytelling are explored in the article.展开更多
