Based on the newly derived formula, THM coupling fracture modes (including tensile, shear and mixed fracture mode) can be predicted by a new fracture criterion of stress intensity factor ratio, where the maximum axial load was measured by self-designed THM coupling fracture test. SEM analyses of THM coupling fractured surface indicate that the higher the temperature and hydraulic pressure are and the lower the confining pressure is, the more easily the intergranular (tension) fracture occurs. The transgranular (shear) fracture occurs in the opposite case while the mixed-mode fracture occurs in the middle case. The tested THM coupling fracture mechanisms are in good agreement with the predicted THM coupling fracture modes, which can verify correction of the newly-derived THM coupling stress intensity factor formula.展开更多

The analysis of the results showed that during the breakdown process of laminar-turbulent transition, the modification of the mean flow profile by the disturbances led to a remarkable change in its stability characteristics, manifested in the significant enlargement of the linear unstable zone and the maximum amplification rate, and led to that many more disturbances were excited and enhanced rapidly, correspondingly the turbulent energy also increased rapidly, and the mean flow profiles evolved swiftly from laminar to turbulent. It was also found that if the oblique waves in the initial disturbances did not form symmetrical pairs, the subsequent span-wise mean velocities would, in general, be nonzero due to nonlinear interaction, which would have a great effect on the stability characteristics and also implied that the turbulence obtained by direct numerical simulation might not be fully a random process.展开更多

It is a complicated nonlinear system. Its appearance badly affects not only natural conditions such as climate and environment, but also global economic development and human living, and brings about many calamities. Thus there is very attractive study on its rules in the international academic circles. Many scholars made more studies on its local and whole behaviors using different methods, such as self-anamnestic principle, Fokker-Plank Equation method, higher order singular pedigree and predictable study, rapid change on boundary, indeterminate adaptive control, multi-eogradient method and so on. Nonlinear perturbed theory and approximate method are very attractive studies in the international academic circles. Many scholars considered a class of nonlinear problems for the ordinary differential equation, the reaction diffusion equations, the boundary value of elliptic equation, the initial boundary value of hyperbolic equation, the shock layer solution of nonlinear equation and so on. In this paper, a class of perturbed mechanism for the western boundary undercurrents in the equator Pacific is considered. Under suitable conditions, using a homotopic mapping theory and method, we obtain a simple and rapid arbitrary order approximate solution for the corresponding nonlinear system. For example, a special case shows that using the homotopic mapping method, there is a high accuracy for the computed value. It is also provided from the results that the solution for homotopic mapping solving method can be used for analyzing operator for perturbed mechanism of western boundary undercurrents in the equator Pacific.展开更多

The numerical results show that the increase of the electrical conductivity or magnetic permeability of the walls of the cylindrical vessel can reduce the critical magnetic Reynolds number. Furthermore, the critical magnetic Reynolds number is more sensi- tive to the varying electrical conductivity of the end wall or magnetic permeability of the side wall. For the anisotropic dynamo which is the mean field model of the Karlsruhe experiment, when the relative electrical conductivity of the side wall or the rel- ative magnetic permeability of the end wall is less than some critical value, the m=l (m is the azimuthal wave number) mag- netic mode is the dominant mode, otherwise the m=0 mode predominates the excited magnetic field. Therefore, by changing the material of the walls of the cylindrical vessel, one can select the magnetic mode excited by the anisotropic dynamo.展开更多
