Analysis was examined in the presence of heat generation/absorption and chemical reaction. The laws of conservation of mass, momentum, energy and concentration are found to lead to the mathematical development of the problem. Suitable transformations were used to convert the nonlinear partial differential equations into the ordinary differential equations. The series solutions of boundary layer equations through momentum, energy and concentration equations were obtained.Convergence of the developed series solutions was discussed via plots and numerical values. The behaviors of different physical parameters on the velocity components, temperature and concentration were obtained. Numerical values of Nusselt number, skin friction and Sherwood number with different parameters were computed and analyzed. It is found that Dufour and Soret numbers result in the enhancement of temperature and concentration distributions, respectively.展开更多

The flow in boundary layer is considered to be generated solely by the stretching of the sheet adjacent to porous medium with boundary wall slip condition. Highly nonlinear momentum and thermal boundary layer equations governing the flow and heat transfer are reduced to set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations by appropriate transformation. The resulting ODEs are successfully solved numerically with the help of shooting method. Graphical results are shown for non-dimensional velocities and temperature. The effects of heat generation/absorption parameter, the porous parameter, the viscoelastic parameter, velocity slip parameter, variable thermal conductivity and the Prandtl number on the flow and temperature profiles are presented. Moreover, the local skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number are presented. Comparison of numerical results is made with the earlier published results under limiting cases.展开更多

The flow is generated due to exponentially stretching surface. The governing boundary layer equations are reduced into the ordinary differential equations. Series solutions are presented to analyze the velocity, temperature and nanoparticle concentration fields. Temperature and nanoparticle concentration fields decrease when the values of Casson parameter enhance. It is found that the Biot numbers arising due to thermal and concentration convective conditions yield an enhancement in the temperature and concentration fields. Further, we observed that both the thermal and nanoparticle concentration boundary layer thicknesses are higher for the larger values of thermophoresis parameter. The effects of Brownian motion parameter on the temperature and nanoparticle concentration are reverse.展开更多

Such exchanges increase the oxidizing capacity of the atmosphere and may have a crucial impact on the air signals that are retrieved from ice cores. In the recent years, sunlit snow and ice have been demonstrated to be important NOx sources in the polar atmospheric boundary layer. This paper makes a thorough review on the release of NOx from snow and ice, including field observations and experimental evidences, release mechanisms and influential parameters that affect such a release process, polar NOx concentrations and fluxes, and environmental impacts of the chemical processes of NOx in the polar atmospheric boundary layer. In the Tibetan Plateau, the released NOx observed recently in the sunlit snow/ice-cover is 1-order magnitude more than that in polar regions, but further scientific research is still needed to reveal its impact on the atmospheric oxidizing capacity.展开更多

Obvious differences are observed regarding the tropopause, boundary layer height, temperature inversion, and vertical structure of wind speed and direction in the center Arctic Ocean in the summer of 2012, 2010, and 2014. These differences can be explained by the relations between temperature and changes in sea ice extent in September from 1979 to 2014. In September 2012, the Arctic sea ice extent decreased by 44% an with obvious warming process. In September 2010 and 2014, it decreased by 22.6% and 17% with an obvious cooling process, respectively. A comparison of the two processes shows that sea ice change has a significant influence on the structure of the atmospheric boundary layer. In the recent 30 years, the temperature changes of 1000 and 850 h Pa in the center of the Arctic Ocean have displayed an obvious warming trend and negative correlation with sea ice extent. These changes indicate that the continuous reduction of Arctic sea ice will continue the warming of the troposphere middle layer.展开更多

The perturbed boundary layer is highly inflectional both in the normalwise and spanwise directions and receptive to the secondary instabilities. The Floquet theory is applied to solve the fundamental, subharmonic and detuned secondary instabilities. With the Gortler-vortices-distorted base flow, two classes of secondary disturbances, i.e. odd modes and even modes, are identified according to the eigenfunctions of the disturbances. These modes may result in different patterns in the late stages of the transition process. Li and Malik [ 1 ] have shown the sinuous and varicose types of breakdown originating from the odd and even modes. The current study focuses on the four most amplified modes termed the even modes I & Ⅱ and odd modes I & lI. Odd mode II was missing in the work of Li and Malik [1] probably due to their inviscid simplifeation. The detuned modes are confirmed to be less amplifed than the fundamental (for the odd mode I) and subharmonic modes (for even modes I & II and the odd mode II).展开更多

For any starting point inside D, we run a diffusion until it first exits D, at which time it stays at the exit point ξ for an independent exponential holding time with rate βξ and then leaves ξ by a jump into D according to the distribution ξ. Once the process jumps inside, it starts the diffusion afresh. The same evolution is repeated independently each time the process jumped into the domain. The resulting Markov process is called diffusion with holding and jumping boundary (DHJ), which is not reversible due to the jumping. In this paper we provide a study of DHJ on its generator, stationary distribution and the speed of convergence.展开更多

In this study, a new method is proposed to deal with the flow and heat transfer problem of steady flow in a fracture. The fluid flow in a fracture was described using the same method as Mohais, who considered a fracture as a channel with porous wall, and the perturbation method was used to solve the mathematical model. Unlike previous studies, the shear jump boundary condition proposed by Ochoa-Tapia and Whitaker was used at the interface between the fluid and porous media. The main methods were perturbation analysis and the application of shear jump boundary conditions. The influence of permeability, channel width, shear jump degree and effective dynamic viscosity on the flow and heat transfer in the channel was studied by analysing the analytical solution. The distribution of axial velocity in the channel with the change of the typical parameters and the sensitivity of the heat transfer was obtained.展开更多

In contrast to the case of flat boundaries, where the uniform convergence in super-norm can be obtained, the asymptotic behavior of viscous solutions for small viscosity depends on the curvature of the boundary in general. It is shown, in particular, that the viscous solution converges to that of the ideal Euler equations in C([0, T]; HI(Ω)) provided that the initial vorticity vanishes on the boundary of the domain.展开更多

Optimal homotopy analysis method(OHAM) is best candidate to handle highly nonlinear system of differential equations obtained from boundary layer partial differential equations via appropriate transformations. Also, it is observed that Dufour number has opposite behavior on temperature and concentration profiles.展开更多
