Natural convection heat transfer inside horizontal rectangular enclosure filled with the anisotropic porous media, with isothermally heated bottom and cooled top while the vertical walls are adiabatic, is analyzed numerically by applying the Brinkman model-a modified form of Darcy model giving consideration to the viscous effect. The results show that: (1)the permeability ratio (K*=Ky/Kx) is an important factor affecting natural convection heat transfer in the porous media. As K' decreases, the circulation intensity of the natural convectioncells increase significantly, resulting in an enhancement of heat transfer coefficient; (2)the increase of Darcy number (aa=Ky/H2) implies that the viscous effect is more significant. As Da≥10-, there exists a certain difference between the Darcy model and the Brinkman model. It is more significant at a lower permeability ratio. In particalar, with K*≤0. 25, the Nusselt number for Da=10-3 would differ form that of Darcy model up to an amount of 30K. The Darcy flow as depicted by Darcy model is no longer existing and an analysis neglecting the viscous effect will inevitably be of considerable error. 展开更多

To further investigate the one-dimensional(1D)rheological consolidation mechanism of double-layered soil, the fractional derivative Merchant model(FDMM)and the non-Darcian flow model with the non-Newtonian index are respectively introduced to describe the deformation of viscoelastic soil and the flow of pore water in the process of consolidation.Accordingly,an 1D rheological consolidation equation of double-layered soil is obtained, and its numerical analysis is performed by the implicit finite difference method. In order to verify its validity, the numerical solutions by the present method for some simplified cases are compared with the results in the related literature. Then, the influence of the revelent parameters on the rheological consolidation of double-layered soil are investigated.Numerical results indicate that the parameters of non-Darcian flow and FDMM of the first soil layer greatly influence the consolidation rate of double-layered soil.As the decrease of relative compressibility or the increase of relative permeability between the lower soil and the upper soil, the dissipation rate of excess pore water pressure and the settlement rate of the ground will be accelerated.Increasing the relative thickness of soil layer with high permeability or low compressibility will also accelerate the consolidation rate of double-layered soil. 展开更多

By using the steady-state seepage method, a patent seepage device together with the MTS815.02 Rock Mechanics Test System is used to test the seepage properties of non-Darcy flow in a granular gangue with five different grain sizes during the compaction. The experimental results show that the seepage properties are not only related to the stress or displacement level, but also to the grain size, the pore structure of the granular gangue, and the current porosity The permeability and the non-Darcy flow coefficient can be fitted respectively by the cubic polynomials and the power functions of the porosity, Formally, the flow in granular gangue satisfies the Forchheimer's binomial flow, but under the great axial and confining pressure and owing to the grain's crushing, the flow in granular gangues is different from that in rock-fills which are naturallv oiled un. As a result, the non-Darer flow coefficient may be negative. 展开更多

Based on non-Darcian flow law described by exponent and threshold gradient within a double-layered soil, the classic theory of one-dimensional consolidation of double-layered soil was modified to consider the change of vertical total stress with depth and time together. Because of the complexity of governing equations, the numerical solutions were obtained in detail by finite difference method. Then, the numerical solutions were compared with the analytical solutions in condition that non-Darcian flow law was degenerated to Dary's law, and the comparison results show that numerical solutions are reliable. Finally, consolidation behavior of double-layered soil with different parameters was analyzed, and the results show that the consolidation rate of double-layered soil decreases with increasing the value of exponent and threshold of non-Darcian flow, and the exponent and threshold gradient of the first soil layer greatly influence the consolidation rate of double-layered soil. The larger the ratio of the equivalent water head of external load to the total thickness of double-layered soil, the larger the rate of the consolidation, and the similitude relationship in classical consolidation theory of double-layered soil is not satisfied. The other consolidation behavior of double-layered soil with non-Darcian flow is the same as that with Darcy's law. 展开更多

In order to overcome the limitation of cross correlation coregistration method for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) interferometric pairs with low coherence, a new image coregistration algorithm based on Fringe Definition Detection (FDD) is presented in this paper. The Fourier transformation was utilized to obtain spectrum characteristics of interferometric fringes. The ratio between spectrum mean and peak was proposed as the evaluation index for identifying homologous pixels from interferometric images. The satellites ERS-1/2 C-band SAR acquisitions covering the Yangtze River plain delta, eastern China and ALOS/PALSAR L-band images over the Longmen Shan mountainous area, southwestern China were respectively employed in the experiment to validate the proposed coregistration method. The testing results suggested that the derived Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from FDD method had good agreement with that from the cross correlation method as well as the reference DEM at high coherence area. However, The FDD method achieved a totally improved topographic mapping accuracy by 24 percent in comparison to the cross correlation method. The FDD method also showed better robustness and achieved relatively higher performance for SAR image eoregistration in mountainous areas with low coherence. 展开更多

Coalbed gas non-Darcy flow has been observed in high permeable fracture systems, and some mathematical and numerical models have been proposed to study the effects of non-Darcy flow using Forchheimer non-Darcy model. However, experimental results show that the assumption of a constant Forchheimer factor may cause some limitations in using Forchheimer model to describe non-Darcy flow in porous media. In order to investigate the effects of non-Darcy flow on coalbed methane production, this work presents a more general coalbed gas non-Darcy flow model according to Barree-Conway equation, which could describe the entire range of relationships between flow velocity and pressure gradient from low to high flow velocity. An expanded mixed finite element method is introduced to solve the coalbed gas non-Darcy flow model,in which the gas pressure and velocity can be approximated simultaneously.Error estimate results indicate that pressure and velocity could achieve first-order convergence rate.Non-Darcy simulation results indicate that the non-Darcy effect is significant in the zone near the wellbore, and with the distance from the wellbore increasing, the non-Darcy effect becomes weak gradually. From simulation results,we have also found that the non-Darcy effect is more significant at a lower bottom-hole pressure, and the gas production from non-Darcy flow is lower than the production from Darcy flow under the same permeable condition. 展开更多

Air entrapment is an important consideration in environments with shallow water tables and sandy soil, like the condition of highly conductive sandy soils and flat topography in Florida, USA. It causes water table rises in soils, which are significantly faster and higher than those in soils without air entrapment. Two numerical models, Integrated Hydrologic Model (IHM) and HYDRUS-1D (a single-phase, one-dimensional Richards′ equation model) were tested at an area of west central Florida to help further understanding the shallow water table behavior during a long term air entrapment. This investigation employed field data with two modeling approaches to quantify the variation of air pressurization values. It was found that the air pressurization effect was responsible at time up to 40 cm of water table rise being recorded by the observation well for these two models. The values of air pressurization calculated from IHM and HYDRUS-1D match the previously published values. Results also indicated that the two numerical models did not consider air entrapment effect (as the predictive parameters remain uncertain) and thus results of depth to water table from these models did not compare to the observations for these selected periods. Incorporating air entrapment in prediction models is critical to reproduce shallow water table observations. 展开更多

After analyzing many studies of fluid flow theory of multi-porous media in low and extra-low permeability reservoirs and the numerical simulation of non-Darcy flow, we found that a negative flow rate occurs in the existing non-Darcy flow equation, which is unreasonable. We believe that the existing equation can only be considered as a discriminant to judging Darcy flow or non-Darcy flow, and cannot be taken as a fluid flow governing equation of multi-porous media. Our analysis of the experimental results shows that the threshold pressure gradient(TPG) of low and extra-low permeability reservoirs is excessively high, and does not conform to fluid flow through multi-porous media in the actual reservoir situation. Therefore, we present a reasonable TPG ranging from 0.006 to 0.04 MPa/m at the well depth of 1500 m and oil drainage distance of 500 m. The results of our study also indicate that the non-Darcy flow phenomenon will disappear when the TPG reaches a certain value. In addition, the TPG or non-Darcy flow in low and extra-low permeability reservoirs does not need to be considered in the productivity prediction and reservoir numerical simulation. At present, the black oil model or dual-porous media is suitable for simulating low and extra-low permeability reservoirs. 展开更多

Oblique wave interaction with a two-layer breakwater consisting of perforated front and back wall in the presence of bottom undulations is analyzed.Wave characteristics are studied in the framework of small-amplitude wave theory, and Darcy’s law is used for flow past porous structures. The varying bottom topography spanned over a finite interval connected by two semi-infinite intervals of uniform water depths.Eigenfunction expansion method is used to handle the solution in the regions of uniform bottom and a modified mild-slope equation along with jump conditions is employed for varying bottom topography.Reflection, transmission, and wave energy dissipation coefficients are obtained numerically by applying the matrix method to understand the effects of several physical quantities such as wavenumber, porosity, and angle of incidence. The transmission coefficient reduces significantly and the wave energy dissipation is high for the present model. Also,Bragg scattering is analyzed in the presence of step-type rippled bottom and presented in this paper. 展开更多
