The Luzon Strait is the only deep channel that connects the South China Sea(SCS) with the Pacific.The transport through the Luzon Strait is an important process influencing the circulation,heat and water budgets of th...The Luzon Strait is the only deep channel that connects the South China Sea(SCS) with the Pacific.The transport through the Luzon Strait is an important process influencing the circulation,heat and water budgets of the SCS.Early observations have suggested that water enters the SCS in winter but water inflow or outflow in summer is quite controversial.On the basis of hydrographic measurements from CTD along 120° E in the Luzon Strait during the period from September 18 to 20 in 2006,the characteristics of temperature,salinity and density distributions are analyzed.The velocity and volume transport through the Luzon Strait are calculated using the method of dynamic calculation.The major observed results show that water exchanges are mainly from the Pacific to the South China Sea in the upper layer,and the flow is relatively weak and eastward in the deeper layer.The net volume transport of the Luzon Strait during the observation period is westward,amounts to about 3.25 Sv.This result is consistent with historical observations.展开更多

For movement-based signals where movement is restricted t...Understanding how signal properties are optimized for the reliable transmission of information requires accurate de- scription of the signal in time and space. For movement-based signals where movement is restricted to a single plane, measure- ments from a single viewpoint can be used to consider a range of viewing positions based on simple geometric calculations. However, considerations of signal properties from a range of viewing positions for movements extending into three-dimensions (3D) are more problematic. We present here a new framework that overcomes this limitation, and enables us to quantify the extent to which movement-based signals are view-specific. To illustrate its application, a Jacky lizard tail flick signal was filmed with synchronized cameras and the position of the tail tip digitized for both recordings. Camera aligmnent enabled tl^e construction of a 3D display action pattern profile. We analyzed the profile directly and used it to create a detailed 3D animation. In the virtual environment, we were able to film the same signal from multiple viewing positions and using a computational motion analysis algorithm (gradient detector model) to measure local image velocity in order to predict view dependent differences in signal properties. This approach will enable consideration of a range of questions concerning movement-based signal design and evolu- tion that were previously out of reach [Current Zoology 56 (3): 327-336, 2010].展开更多

According to the fact that the gray values of adjacent pixels will not vary fast, the algorithm employs an interlaced search pattem in the search window to estimate the motion vector of the objectblock. Simulation and actual experiments demanstrate that the proposed algmithm greatly outperforms the well-known three-step search and dianond search algoritlam, no matter the motion vector is large or small. Comparedc with the full search algorithm, the proposed one achieves similar peffomance but requires much less computation, therefore, the algorithm is well qualified for real-time video image processing.展开更多

Four modes were s...Factors contributing to ventilation quantity of the vehicle are ventilation modes, cabin characteristics and vehicle speeds. CO2 levels were investigated under different speeds and ventilation modes. Four modes were selected: A: vent closed and fan shut, B: vent closed and fan started, C: vent opened and fan shut, D: vent opened and fan started. In vent closed modes, CO2 levels reached several thousands of ppm in few minutes at any speeds. For mode C, CO2 levels exceeded the guideline at low speeds 50 km/h, while it reduced below one at higher speeds 80 km/h. Fan has no significant impact on ventilation during vent closed. The ventilation efficiency in each mode increased with the speed raising. To determine the ventilation rate of running vehicle, the experiment was implemented by using CO2 emitted from driver and passengers as tracer gas. Ventilation rate for the different modes and speeds were calculated.展开更多

These characteristics were calculated for eight refrigerants at temperature of their condensation 30 ℃ and temperatures of boiling -15℃ and -30 ℃. This paper will give a tight upper bound on the cardinality of a minimal set of paths for any weighted edge-coloured graph. Additionally, a bound is presented on the expected number of minimal paths in weighted edge-bicoloured graphs.
