TEM photos show that Ag + was homogeneously distributed in the microspheres. The Ag + was reduced in situ by photochemical method. For linear polyurethane particles, as the extent of the reduction reaction of silver ions increased, the silver particles grew larger, but the number of the silver particles kept almost constant. In crosslinked polymer system, the number of silver particles increased, but the size of silver particles remained almost the same. We concluded that nucleation and growth of the silver particle are the result of the silver atom movement in the polymer matrix. In the linear polymer system, the movement of silver atom and aggregation of silver particles result in the formation and growth of several silver particles; in the cross linked polymer system, the polymer chain prevents the movement of silver particles, resulting in a number increase of silver particles.展开更多

The results show that more Ag and Mn species present on the surface of the Ag-MnOx/C composite prepared by two-step route (Ag-MnOx/C-2) compared to the one prepared by one-step route (Ag-MnOx/C-1), which contributes to its superior activity toward the ORR. The higher electron transfer number involved in the ORR can be observed on the Ag-MnOx/C-2 composite and its specific mass kinetic current at -0.6 V (vs Hg/HgO) is 46 mA/μg, which is 23 times that on the Ag/C. The peak power density of zinc-air battery with the Ag-MnOx/C-2 air electrode reaches up to 117 mW/cm^2.展开更多

Two reducing agents, trisodium citrate dehydrate (TSC) and potassium tartrate, were used to reduce the AgNO3 solution. In this redox system, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and arabic gum were served as surfactants. The results showed that reducing agents and surfactants both act as the capping agent adhering to the certain facets of silver seeds to block this surface to grow. The relative intensity of reducing agents also takes an active part in influencing the growth rate and direction of silver seeds. It was also found that halides can accelerate the speed of Ostwald ripening by adding Cl?, Br? and I?into the aqueous and have some effects on the morphology of the nanoplates.展开更多

For PEI/Pebax2533/AgBF4 composite membranesprepared with dillerent AgBF4 concentration, the permeances of propylene and ethylene increase with the increase of AgBF4 concentration due to the carrier-facilitated transport, resulting in a high selectivity. But for propyl- ene/propane mixture, the mixed-gas selectivity is lower than its ideal selectivity. The hydrogen reduction strongly influences the membrane performance, which causes the decrease of propylene permeance and the increase of pro-pane permeance. With the increase of hydrogen reduction time, the membranes show a clearly color change from white to brown, yielding a great selectivity loss. The data of X-ray diffraction and FT-IR prove that silver ions are reduced to Ago after hydrogen reduction, and aggregated on the surface of PEI/Pebax2533/AgBF4 composite mem- branes.展开更多

Although challenging, it is, therefore, necessary to achieve the sustainable release of Ag+ ions from a finite amount of Ag NPs. This study aims at designing an efficient and benign antimicrobial silver-based ternary composite composed of photocatalysis zinc oxide (ZnO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as a carrier, in which the reactive oxygen species (ROS) excited from ZnO and Ag+ ions released from the Ag NPs cooperate to realize an effective antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. The constant effective bacterial performance of the ternary photocatalyst with minimum Ag content can be attributed to the increase in the available quantity of ROS, which results from the enhanced separation efficiency of the photogenerated carriers. The proposed system notably realized the long-term sustainable release of Ag+ ions with low concentration for 30 days when compared with an equivalent amount of silver nitrate. Moreover, the use of the composite prevents biotoxicity and silver wastage, and imparts enhanced stability to the long-lasting antibacterial efficacy.展开更多

The photocatalytic reduction was performed by batch technique in a closed reactor equipped with UV lamp. The concentration of unreduced Ag(I) was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometry method. The research results indicate that Ag(I) in the solution can be removed and recovered effectively as silver metal Ag(0) deposited on the surface of TiO2 for photocatalytic reduction. In addition, the presence of Cu(II) ion with increasing concentration leads to a proportional decline in Ag(I) photoreduction due to the prominent competition in the adsorption on the surface of TiO2. The effectiveness of Ag(I) ion photoreduction in the presence of Cu(II) ion is strongly influenced by solution pH and the highest photoreduction is obtained at pH 5 - 8, which is related with the speciation ofAg(I), TiO2 surface as well as Cu(II) in the solution.展开更多
