This system contains a pair of robots with the master being operated by the therapist and the slave following the master to guide the patients to exercise. A slave device with a slave controller is designed to stretch and mobilize the impaired elbow joints accurately and safely. A master device with a master controller is designed to control/monitor the procedure of treatment and assess the outcome of treatment remotely and accurately. By using the twoport network theory and the circuit equivalent impedance models, the position-force control scheme is designed to generate force feedback for the therapist who is to be informed of the interaction force between the subject and the robot arm during exercise. Experiments were conducted with a healthy male. Results show that the therapist can guide the patient to exercise by the master arm and can feel the interaction forces between the impaired arm and the robot. Compared with the traditional therapy, this system is more cost-efficient, more convenient and safer for both the stroke patients and the clinicians.展开更多

The application of air cavities on the underside of ship hulls is a promising means for reducing hydrodynamic drag and pollutant emissions and increasing marine transportation efficiency. Despite this concept's potential, design optimization and high-performance operation of novel air-cavity ships remain a challenging problem. Hull construction and sensor instrumentation of the model-scale air-cavity boat is described in the paper. The modular structure of the hull allows for easy modifications, and an electric propulsion unit enables self-propelled operation. The boat is controlled remotely via a radio transmission system. Results of initial tests are reported, including thrust, speed, and airflow rate in several loading conditions. The constructed platform can be used for optimizing air-cavity systems and testing other innovative hull designs. This system can be also developed into a high-performance unmanned boat.展开更多

What is more, the operation time and steps do not increase with the increase of atoms.展开更多

Data was collected through questionnaires and course feedback. The results of this study extend Gardner's socio-educational model in an e-learning environment by adding the new category, Computer Attitudes, which was proven to be highly correlated with Motivation. Although the low proficiency English students had good computer skills, their habits of using the computer for entertainment and their lack of the skill of "technological communication efficacy" caused increased anxiety when using computers and thus provided them with a lower computer confidence over time. Consequently, it is recommended that sound e-learning training should be provided to all of the students prior to embarking on an e-leaning course so that these learners can benefit from online language learning in the future.展开更多
