We first propose a simple, closed-form scattering effect resistivity model, considering the effects of both width and thickness. Then we use this model to derive statistical expressions of the slew metrics using the SS2M model. We find that the delay and slew can be greatly increased when considering the scattering effect. The proposed statistical SS2M model has an average error of 4.16% with respect to SPICE Monte Carlo simulations, with an average error of standard deviation of only 3.06%.展开更多

Also, there have been many studies on throughput analysis of CSMA wireless networks. However, for a typical CSMA network in which not all nodes can sense each other, it is still not well investigated how link throughputs are affected by collisions. We note that in practical 802.11-like networks, the time is divided into mini-timeslots and packet collisions are in fact unavoidable. Thus, it is desirable to move forward to explore how collisions in such a network will affect system performance. Based on the collision-free ideal CSMA network(ICN) model, this paper attempts to analyze link throughputs when taking the backoff collisions into account and examine the effect of collisions on link throughputs. Specifically, we propose an Extended Ideal CSMA Network(EICN) model to characterize the collision effects as well as the interactions and dependency among links in the network. Based on EICN, we could directly compute link throughputs and collision probabilities. Simulations show that the EICN model is of high accuracy. Under various network topologies and protocol parameter settings, the computation error of link throughputs using EICN is kept to 4% or below. Interestingly, we find that unlike expected, the effect of collisions on link throughputs in a modest CSMA wireless network is not significant, which enriches our understanding on practical CSMA wireless networks such as Wi-Fi.展开更多

Three different models are developed and compared to study the efficiency and feasibility of simulation, which include substructure model, beam element model and solid element model. The comparison results show that the substructure model has a satisfying capability, calculation efficiency and accuracy to predict the concerned joints as well as the overall framework. Based on the substructure model and a kind of semi-rigid connection for concretefilled square hollow section steel column proposed in this paper, the nonlinear dynamic analyses are conducted by the alternate path method. It is found that the removal of the ground inner column brings high-level joint moments and comparatively low-level axial tension forces. The initial stiffness and transmitted ultimate moment of the semi-rigid connection are the main factors that influence the frame behavior, and their lower limit should be guaranteed to resist collapse. Reduced ultimate moment results in drastic displacement and axial force development, which may bring progressive collapse. The higher initial stiffness ensures that the structure has a stronger capacity to resist progressive collapse.展开更多

Due to the number of walls in plan and reduction in lateral force portion, this system is not only stronger against earthquakes, but also more economical. The effect of progressive collapse caused by removal of load bearing elements, in various positions in plan and stories of the RC load bearing wall system was evaluated by nonlinear dynamic and static analyses. For this purpose, three-dimensional model of 10-story structure was selected. The analysis results indicated stability, strength and stiffness of the RC load-bearing wall system against progressive collapse. It was observed that the most critical condition for removal of load bearing walls was the instantaneous removal of the surrounding walls located at the corners of the building where the sections of the load bearing elements were changed. In this case, the maximum vertical displacement was limited to 6.3 mm and the structure failed after applying the load of 10 times the axial load bored by removed elements. Comparison between the results of the nonlinear dynamic and static analyses demonstrated that the "load factor" parameter was a reasonable criterion to evaluate the progressive collapse potential of the structure.展开更多

The number of categories required to have consistent statistical inference was also explored. Multiple Logistic Regression Analysis was employed with the dependent variable in the model may be a dichotomous/multi-category in nature while the independent variables (predictors) may be either continuous or categorical or ordinal. Real-life clinical trial data was used to answer the objectives. It was found that there was no hard and fast rule to categorize the continuous variables. Sometimes, it was observed that the set of significant predictors identified might change with the criteria of categorization. Certain variables without categorization produced too large odds ratios to interpret meaningfully. The nature as well as number of significant predictors altered with classification criteria often forcing the authors to categorize variables, it is recommended that the independent variables need not be coded, unless otherwise warranted. Coding is needed when the odds ratio is extremely high. In this situation, two or more categories, including regression analysis. median cut off point, will be sufficient to undertake the logistic展开更多

To a great degree, success or failure in applying DDA to a practical problem is dependent on the spring stiffness parameters, which is believed to be the biggest obstacle to more extensive applications of DDA. In order to evade the introduction of the artificial springs, this study reformulates DDA as a mixed linear complementarity problem(MLCP) in the primal form. Then, from the fact that the block displacement vector of each block can be expressed in terms of the contact forces acting on the block, the condensed form of MLCP is derived, which is more efficient than the primal form. Some typical examples including those designed by the DDA inventor are reanalyzed, proving that the procedure is feasible.展开更多
