The mercury and its speciation concentrations including participate mercuryat three locations of before air preheater, before electrostatic precipitator (ESP) and after ESPwere measured using the OHM and SCEM methods under normal operation conditions of the boiler systemas a result of firing a bituminous coal. The vapor-phase total mercury Hg(VT) concentration declinedwith the decrease of flue gas temperature because of mercury species transformation from oxidizedmercury to particulate mercury as the flue gas moved downstream from the air preheater to the ESPand after the ESP. A good agreement for Hg°, Hg^(2+) and Hg( VT) was obtained between the twomethods in the ash-free area. But in the dense particle-laden flue gas area, there appeared to be abig bias for mercury speciation owing to dust cake formed in the filter of OHM sampling probe. The system developed for monitoring of behavior of a powered support in a mechanized Iongwall sublevel caving face. The logging system can be programmed for logging the data from the sensors at different logging intervals ranging from 16 h to 1 ms for logging variation in hydraulic pressures in legs and convergence of the support during progressive face advance. For recording dynamic loads, the data logger can be programmed to start fast logging, say at 10 ms intervals, when the pressure in a leg reaches a pre-specified threshold value, and continue fast logging until the pressure drops below this threshold value. This fast logging automatically stops when the pressure drops below this threshold value.展开更多

A practical method is to partition the data spa...The problem of continuously monitoring multiple K-nearest neighbor (K-NN) queries with dynamic object and query dataset is valuable for many location-based applications. A practical method is to partition the data space into grid cells, with both object and query table being indexed by this grid structure, while solving the problem by periodically joining cells of objects with queries having their influence regions intersecting the cells. In the worst case, all cells of objects will be accessed once. Object and query cache strategies are proposed to further reduce the I/O cost. With object cache strategy, queries remaining static in current processing cycle seldom need I/O cost, they can be returned quickly. The main I/O cost comes from moving queries, the query cache strategy is used to restrict their search-regions, which uses current results of queries in the main memory buffer. The queries can share not only the accessing of object pages, but also their influence regions. Theoretical analysis of the expected I/O cost is presented, with the I/O cost being about 40% that of the SEA-CNN method in the experiment results.展开更多

Samples of leaves, stem and roots were collected randomly from the selected specie (Avicennia marina). The study site is receiving continuous amount of heavy metals from effluent and discharge of different sources. The concentrations of heavy metals was in decreasing order Fe 〉 Cd 〉 Pb 〉 Hg in all three parts (leaves, stem and roots) of the Avicennia marina. The average concentration of Fe was 6.45 μg/g, Cd 0.97μg/g, and Pb 0.71μg/g, in mangrove plant Avicennia marina. The situation reflects the needs for continuous monitoring of the heavy metals in the mangrove plant forest.展开更多

Remote monitoring and control of the bioreactor's computer via the Internet avoids the nec...Bioreactor operation requires continuous monitoring of fermentation parameters and real-time control over bioreactor devices. Remote monitoring and control of the bioreactor's computer via the Internet avoids the necessity of personnel being continually onsite during operation. A two liter Sartorius-stedim Biostat~ A Plus fermentation system was networked and interfaced with the commercial software from GoToMyPC to allow remote control of the fermentation system utilizing the internet. The fermentation vessel was equipped with hardware calibrated for monitoring and controlling culture parameters during experimentations. The uniform resource locator controlled night-vision web camera allowed continuous monitoring of the glass fermentation vessel during the day and at night. The main window screen of the laboratory computer can be securely accessed from any portable device (i.e. laptop) capable of establishing an Internet connection and executing the commercial software from GoToMyPC. The secured internet protocol address, provided by GoToMyPC, assures that the system can only be controlled by authorized users who have been given access to the account. This interface permits the remote control of the Biostat A Plus fermentation system and possibly other automated or potentially automated culturing systems at the convenience of the user(s).展开更多

Study of the audience of public musical events was limited only to the num...This paper displays the results of a survey of public music performances held during 2010 in Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. Study of the audience of public musical events was limited only to the number of visitors. Field research included 653 musical events with a total of 545,340 visitors grouped into eight categories according to the preference by genres of music preference, age, status symbol, origin of the performers, space, and organizers. Our experience in monitoring public musical events through personal presence, the recorded materials, and the continuous monitoring of information from electronic and print media, enabled us to record events and to build some initial comments and assumptions about the structure of the audience and music preference. We have chosen to consider the impact of the sociological determinants on the preference of the audience in the public musical performances through the music genres, the age, the status symbol, the origin of the performers, the area of maintenance, and the organizers of musical events. According to the genre distribution, classical music events prevail, and the greatest numbers of visitors are registered at the pop rock concerts. The structure of the audience according to the age varies depending on the musical genre, so the widest age structure covers the events of pop rock music.展开更多

The data in one mode may follow specific Gaussian or non-Gaussian distributions. In this paper, a numerically efficient movingwindow local outlier probability algorithm is proposed, lies key feature is the capability to handle complex data distributions and incursive operating condition changes including slow dynamic variations and instant mode shifts. First, a two-step adaption approach is introduced and some designed updating rules are applied to keep the monitoring model up-to-date. Then, a semi-supervised monitoring strategy is developed with an updating switch rule to deal with mode changes. Based on local probability models, the algorithm has a superior ability in detecting faulty conditions and fast adapting to slow variations and new operating modes. Finally, the utility of the proposed method is demonstrated with a numerical example and a non-isothermal continuous stirred tank reactor.展开更多

This paper describes the application of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based sensors for monitoring road pavement strains caused by mining induced ground subsidence as a result of underground longwall coal mining beneath...This paper describes the application of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) based sensors for monitoring road pavement strains caused by mining induced ground subsidence as a result of underground longwall coal mining beneath a major highway in New South Wales, Australia. After a lengthy planning period, the risks to the highway pavement were successfully managed by the highway authority and the mining company through a technical committee. The technical committee comprised representatives of the mining company, the highway authority and specialists in the fields of pavement engineering, geotechnical engineering and subsidence. An important component of the management strategy is the installation of a total of 840 strain and temperature sensors in the highway pavement using FBG arrays encapsulated in glass-fiber composite cables. The sensors and associated demodulation equipment provide continuous strain measurements along the pavement, enabling on-going monitoring of the effects of mining subsidence on the pavement and timely implementation of planned mitigation and response measures to ensure the safety and serviceability of the highway throughout the mining period.展开更多
