But treatment efficacy was compromised eventually by the development of resistance to antiretroviral drugs, and more new anti-HIV drugs with lower toxicity and higher activity were needed. Based on the experience and lessons learned from the treatment in the developed countries, US FDA suggested that more pharmacodynamical researches should be considered ahead of the clinical trials. To facilitate the anti-HIV drug research and development, we reviewed a few specialized issues that should be focused on drug evaluations in vitro, including: 1) Mechanism of action studies, demonstrating the candidate drug's efficacy to specifically inhibit viral replication or a virus-specific function and confirm the drug target. 2) Drug resistance studies, selecting the drug-resistant variants in vitro and determining the activities inhibiting HIV isolates resistant to approved antiretroviral drugs of the same class. 3) Antiviral activity in vitro in the presence of serum proteins, ascertaining whether an investigational product is significantly bound by serum proteins. 4) Combination activity analysis, evaluating in vitro antiviral activity of an investigational product in two-drug combinations with other drugs approved.展开更多

This study is important at times when domestic and country-based financial policies are directed at competing goals. The interaction of macro-prudential policies with other policies, in particular monetary policies and micro-prudential policies is crucial to address systemic risk involved. There is growing recognition that prudential policies tools interact and coordinate with one another. To utilize multiple instruments seems to provide a greater assurance of effectiveness by tackling risk from various angles. As such, this study also assesses the interactions of the policies. The study also proposes a baseline model to capture systemic risk due to liquidity risk and risk because of currency devaluation.展开更多

A total of 100 male and female students were randomly chosen from three residential commercial areas located in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. A questionnaire on HIV/AIDS symptoms was administered. The findings of the study indicated that two thirds of the interviewed adolescents have high desires to live longer on the earth. Also, adolescents do not associate high death rates of youths with HIV/AIDS symptoms. This report has implications for HIV/AIDS counselling in the Malaysian school system. This is supported by the fact that with the success of retrovirus therapy, many of the infected now live healthier lives and are pursuing a wider range of activities. Many HIV/AIDS infected people today can participate in undergoing their daily life activities, with a significant chance of living longer on the earth. The authors conclude that collaborative partnership between HIV/AIDS services and HIV counselling as part of the integrated system will provide early intervention services to boast relief of anxiety for the young people in Malaysia who already live with HIV/AIDS.展开更多
