Theadsorption mechanism of octanol and BHA on the surface of cassiterite was analyzed by adsorption experiments and infrared spectraanalysis. Micro-flotation results indicated that single octanol exhibited almost no collecting power to cassiterite over a wide pHrange. However, as an auxiliary collector, octanol could markedly decrease the consumption of collector BHA and keep the recoveryof cassiterite in high level. The results of adsorption experiments and infrared spectra demonstrated that single octanol was notadsorbed on the surface of cassiterite. It formed adsorption connected with BHA on the surface of cassiterite, and enhanced thehydrophobicity of cassiterite. Octanol promoted the adsorption amount of BHA on the cassiterite surface, and decreased theconsumption of BHA.展开更多

It is found that HAS depresses diaspore but activates kaolinite in acidic pulp, while HPAM activates both diaspore and kaolinite in the pH range of 2.010.5. The measurement of zeta potential shows that both HAS and HPAM can increase zeta potential of negatively charged diaspore, which indicates the existence of chemical bonding or hydrogen bonding between the reagents and diaspore. By covering the collector dodecyl amine(DDA) on diaspore surface,HAS increases the hydrophilicity of minerals and depresses the flotation of diaspore, however HPAM activates the flotation of diaspore by increasing the adsorption of DDA on diaspore surface.展开更多

Mineral processors dealing with hematite face a challenge that the flotation results of reverse flotation of hematite are poor in presence of siderite using fatty acid as collector, starch as depressant of iron minerals and calcium ion as activator of quartz at strong alkaline pH. In this work, the effect of siderite on reverse anionic flotation of quartz from hematite was investigated. The effect mechanism of siderite on reverse flotation of hematite was studied by solution chemistry, ultraviolet spectrophotometry(UV) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). It was observed that siderite had strong depressive effect on quartz in flotation using sodium oleate as collector, corn starch as depressant of iron minerals and calcium chloride as activator of quartz at strong alkaline pH. The starch was adsorbed onto calcium carbonate by chemical reaction which was formed by CO^(2-)_3 from siderite dissolution and Ca^(2+) from calcium chloride as activator of quartz and precipitated on the surface of quartz, which resulted in improving the hydrophilic ability of quartz.展开更多

The results show that the oxalic acid effectively eliminated the hydrophilic calcium film from the surface of pyrite. Therefore, the efficiency of pyrite flotation was also activated. The results indicate that after reacting with hydrophobic insoluble remainders on the surface of pyrite, oxalic acid can pro- duce hydrophilic compounds, such as CaC03, Ca(OH)2 and Fe(OH)3. As a consequence, a flesh pyrite layer was exposed and its flotation activated.展开更多

The results revealed the relationship between variations in the mean particle size of activated powders and the milling time. The crystallite size, microstrain, lattice parameters and unit cell volumes were determined for different milling times in powder samples of quartz, hematite, dolomite, and magnetite from the beneficiation tailings. The main trends in the variation of the crystallite size of quartz, hematite, dolomite, and magnetite as a function mean particle size of powder samples were revealed. Changes in the particle shape as a function of the activation time was also investigated.展开更多

This paper presents a computer model, ESCMODEL, for equipment selection in Earth-fill dam projects. The proposed model is capable of assisting the users in making decisions to determine the size, number, type and schedule of presence of dozers, loaders, graders, excavators, trucks, sheepsfoot rollers and smooth wheel rollers. ESCMODEL can contribute to resolve this selection process through the application of an optimization technique, based on nonlinear programming. Three actual case studies of earth-fill dam projects are presented in order to illustrate the effectiveness and performance of the model.展开更多
