Microspheres were prepared by double emulsion technique, using poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) as carrier. At higher medium temperature (45℃, 50℃ and 55℃), an accelerated release testing in short time was studied and correlated with the conventional release (37℃) in vitro. The release in vitro of thymopentin from PLGA microspheres at 45 ℃, 50℃ and 55℃ was significantly accelerated (P 〈 0.05). In particular, at 50℃, an accelerated release (30 h) of the hydrophilic peptide from the PLGA matrix was achieved and correlated well with the conventional release (30 d). An accelerated release testing in vitro at higher temperature could be used to monitor thymopentin release from PLGA microspheres. 展开更多

Segregation of niobium appears in the laser cladding Inconel 718 superalloy and consequently influences the phase transformation during the rapid solidification. In order to control the microstructure and improve the mechanical properties of the deposited coating, the the influence of solidification conditions on the segregation of niobium and the resultant formation of Nb-rich Laves phase was studied using the microstructure observation and EDS analysis. The results show that the cooling rate has considerable influence on the microstructure of the deposited coating. High cooling rate is beneficial for suppressing the segregation of Nb and reducing the formation of Laves phase, which is believed to be detrimental to the performance of the Inconel 718 alloy. 展开更多

Acrylonitrile (AN) was copolymerized with N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPA) to synthesize thermosensitive hy-drogels, and the on-off switch behavior of poly(NIPA-co-AN) hydrogels with different fraction of hydrophobic compo-nent (AN) was investigated. It is found that the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), the swelling ratio at certain temperature and the reswelling rate of poly(NIPA-co-AN) hydrogels decreased as AN unit fraction in copolymers in-creased. In order to improve the responsive rate of poly(NIPA-co-AN) hydrogels, they were further treated by surface crosslinking using N, N′-methylene bisacrylamide (BIS) as a crosslinking agent. The swelling and deswelling behaviors of these copolymers were compared with those of the untreated hydrogels. The results indicated that the responsive rate of poly(NIPA-co-AN) hydrogel was improved by surface crosslinking. The resulting hydrogels bearing cyano groups with fast response have potential applications in the field of drug-controlled release and immobilization of biomolecules. 展开更多

The trajectory model of dispersed phase drops and the model of basic flow for drop motion between two inclined parallel plates are derived with the optimized calculation. The analytical results of direct numerical simulation indicate that the basic flow plays an important role in the drop coalescence on liquid-liquid interface. In the stratified two-phase flow field, the smaller droplets are difficult to drain the thin continuous film between the approaching droplets and bulk interfaces and eventually immerse into the trickling film to yield coalescence. They almost attain the velocity of their local surroundings. Moreover, the basic flow exerts a dominant influence on the motion of smaller droplet. The smaller droplets are easily entrained by the basic flow. On the contrary, the larger drop presents advantageous characteristics of coalescence due to its high velocity. The range of 0.3 mm < δR≤ 0.75 mm is the advantageous drop coalescence condition since the rapidly varied velocity and its first derivative theoretically cause the forces acting on a drop to become imbalanced. On the other hand, the thin layer of the continuous phase drained from the interval between the drops and trickling film should not be neglected in the calculation of shearing force since it is important for drop rotation. The drop rotation is an indispensable factor in coalescence. 展开更多

Simulation of Rate Retardation in RAFT Polymerization of Styrene with Low RAFT-Initiator Ratio

Bulk polymerizations of styrene (St) were carried out in the presence of three reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agents benzyl dithiobenzoate (BDB), cumyl dithiobenzoate(CDB), and 1-phenylethyl dithiobenzoate (PEDB) under low ratio of RAFT agent to initiator. The kinetic model was developed to predict polymerization rate, which indicates that the RAFT polymerization of St is a first-order reaction. In the range of experimental conversions, the plots of -ln(1-x) against time t are approximately linear (x is monomer conversion). The kinetic study reveals the existence of strong rate retardation in RAFT polymerization of styrene. A coefficient K_r is defined to estimate the rate retardation in the RAFT system considering the assumption that the retardation in polymerization rate is mainly attributed to slow fragmentation of the intermediate radicals. K_r relates to the structure of RAFT agents as well as the concentrations of RAFT agent and azobis isobutyronitrile (AIBN). For a certain RAFT agent, the value of K_r is enhanced by the increase in the initial concentration of RAFT agent and the higher ratio of RAFT to AIBN. With the same recipe for different RAFT agents, the increasing trend for the values of K_r is BDB<PEDB<CDB. 展开更多

In this paper, a Euler-Lagrangian particle/fluid film/VOF coupled multiphase flow model is presented. Numerical simulations are conducted, and the rainwater accumulation and flow characteristics over two types of windshields are studied based on the presented model. The results show that an uneven water film is formed over the windshield, with rain water accumulation occurring for the concave windshield but not for the convex windshield. At low speeds, the average fluid-film thickness for a concave windshield is larger than that of a convex windshield;however, a minor difference occurs between these two values at high speeds, and a critical velocity is observed for the two types of windshields. When the train velocity is less than the critical velocity, the fluid film at the lower part of the windshield and the train nose flows downward, and beyond the critical velocity, the fluid film over the entire windshield and train nose flows upward. 展开更多

The phase and group velocity of the laser pulse propagation as well as the three general expressions governing the nonlinear optic behavior, based on the photon number conservation, are obtained by considering the partially stripped plasma as a nonlinear optic medium. The numerical result shows that the presence of the bound electrons in partially stripped plasma can significantly change the propagating property of the intense laser pulse. 展开更多

The prototype tetra-atomic reaction F+H2O→HF+OH plays a significant role in both atmospheric and astronomical chemistry.In this work,thermal rate coefficients of this reaction are determined with the ring polymer molecular dynamics(RPMD)method on a full-dimensional potential energy surface(PES).This PES is the most accurate one for the title reaction,as demonstrated by the correct barrier height and reaction energy,compared to the benchmark calculations by the focal point analysis and the high accuracy extrapolated ab initio thermochemistry methods.The RPMD rate coefficients are in excellent agreement with those calculated by the semiclassical transition state theory and a two-dimensional master equation technique,and some experimental measurements.As has been found in many RPMD applications,quantum effects,including tunneling and zero-point energy effects,can be efficiently and effectively captured by the RPMD method.In addition,the convergence of the results with respect to the number of beads is rapid,which is also consistent with previous RPMD applications. 展开更多

A polypyrrole-modified glassy carbon electrode (PPy/GC electrode) was prepared and its electrocatalytic behavior towards naphthoquinone in the presence of acid was characterized by linear sweep voltammetry (LSV). A well-defined new reduction peak appeared at a more positive potential than the original reduction peak. The new reduction peak current was linearly related to the acid value (AV) of oil. Based on it, a rapid electrochemical method for determining AV of transformer oil was developed using PPy/GC electrode. A working curve was obtained in the AV range of 0.01 to 0.40 mg(KOH).g^-1, with a sensitivity of 39.42 μA0.5/(mg(KOH).g-l) and the detection limit of 0.0014 mg(KOH).g^-1 (signal-to-noise ratio is 3, standard deviation is 2.247%). Moreover, the proposed method has been successfully applied to AV determination of several transformer oil samples with advantages of rapidness, high sensitivity and accuracy compared to the conventional method. 展开更多

Background Female patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) experience increased risk of thromboembolism compared to males, an observation that is reflected by its inclusion in the CHA2DS2VASc score. New onset AF (often associated with tachycardia) also confers upon patients increased thromboembolic risk. The mechanisms underlying this risk are uncertain, but new onset AF is associated with profound impairment of platelet nitric oxide (NO) signalling. Given that cardiovascular responses to catecholamines are gender-dependent, and that the presence of tachycardia in new onset AF may represent a response to catecholaminergic stimulation, we explored the potential impact of gender and tachycardia on platelet aggregation and NO signalling. Methods Interactions were sought in 87 AF patients between the extent of adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet aggregation, the anti-aggregatory effects of the NO donor, sodium nitroprusside, gender, and admission heart rate. The potential impact of platelet expression of thioredoxin-interacting protein (Txnip) was also evaluated. Results Analysis ofcovariance confLrmed the presence of physiological antagonism between platelet ADP and NO responses [F (1, 74) = 12.212, P 〈 0.01 ], while female sex correlated with impaired NO responses independent of platelet aggregability [F (2, 74) = 8.313, P 〈 0.01]. Admission heart rate correlated directly with platelet aggregation (r = 0.235, P 〈 0.05), and inversely with NO response (r = -0.331, P 〈 0.01). Txnip expression varied neither with gender nor with heart rate. Conclusions These results indicate, that gender and heart rate are independent determinants of platelet fimction. Prospective studies of the putative benefit of reversal of tachycardia on restoration of normal platelet function are therefore a priority. 展开更多

Throughout most of the buncher, the electrons are well forward of the crest and have velocities considerably less than light velocity, thus they arc in a region of radial dcfocusing and a considerable fraction of the beam will be lost unless defocusing action is counteracted by some other applied forces. The simplest way to do this is to sct up a longitudinal magnetic field which intcmcts with the radial motion of the electrons and causes them to follow helical orbits through the space occupied by the field. In this paper, five solenoids were designed to provide necessary magnetic field inside the bunchcr. Magnetic field was analytically calculated and compared with simulation results of Computer Simulation Technology (CST). Because of resistance in wires, some amount of energy appears in form of heat, so heat power was calculated analytically and cooling system was designed for these solenoids by Analysis System (ANSYS). 展开更多

Adsorption isotherms of phenol and nitrophenols on hypercrosslinked resin were determined. These isotherms were modeled according to the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The isotherms for phenol and nitrophenols on hypercrosslinked resin were assigned as L curves. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated for all phenol and nitrophenols. The kinetics experiment results showed that the adsorption rates were of the first-order kinetics. The rate constants at 303K were calculated. 展开更多
