Fractal Analysis of Spatial Fault Distribution in the Southern South China Sea 被引量:3

Fractal geometry can effectively quantify naturally nonlinear or much complicated phenomena, and fractal dimension is the quantitative parameter. In this paper, we applied fractal geometry to analyze spatial fault distribution of the southern South China Sea. Calculation results indicate that the spatial fault distribution of this area have remarkable fractal features in a non-scale interval of 25 - 250 km, with fractal dimensions of 1.660 1, 1.387 5, and 1.269 3 for all faults, NE-trending faults and NW-trending faults, respectively. These dimensions (capacity dimensions), obtained by box-counting method, represent well the characteristics of spatial fault distribution. Displayed by isoline-maps of fractal dimensions, faults in the study area arrange symmetrically along the spreading axis of the Southwest Sub-basin, and density of the NE-trending faults supplements to that of the NW-trending faults, revealing a property of mutual restriction between these two groups of faults. At last, by correlating the fractal features of spatial fault distribution with the evolution of the South China Sea and the distribution of oil or gas basins, we tried to reveal their relationships. 展开更多

Hursts rescaled range (R/S) analysis and Wolfs attractor reconstruction technique have been adopted to estimate the local fractal dimensions and the local largest Lyapunov exponents in terms of the time series pressure fluctuations obtained from a gas liquid solid three phase self aspirated reversed flow jet loop reactor,respectively.The results indicate that the local fractal dimensions and the local largest Lyapunov exponents in both the jet region and the tubular region inside the draft tube increase with the increase in the jet liquid flowrates and the solid loadings,the local fractal dimension profiles are similar to those of the largest Lyapunov exponent,the local largest lyapunov exponents are positive for all cases,and the flow behavior of such a reactor is chaotic.The local nonlinear characteristic parameters such as the local fractal dimension and the local largest Lyapunov exponent could be applied to further study the flow properties such as the flow regime transitions and flow structures of this three phase jet loop reactor. 展开更多

The local bifurcation of this system is investigated by using L S method and the singularity theory. The Z 2 bifurcation in non degenerate case is discussed. The local bifurcation diagrams of the unfolding parameters and the bifurcation response characters referred to the physical parameters of the system are obtained by numerical simulation. Climatic Factors for Limiting Northward Distribution of Eight Temperate Tree Species in Eastern North America 被引量:3

Eight temperate deciduous tree species, Acer rubrum L., A. saccharinum L., A. saccharum Marsh., Belluta alleghaniensis Britton., Fraxinus nigra Marsh., Quercus rubra L., Titia americana L., and Ulmus americana L. in eastern North America, were selected to explore relationship between the northward distribution of temperate tree species and climatic factors. For each species, more than 30 sites at their north limits of distribution were obtained from their distribution maps, and 11 climatic indices at the north limits were computed. The standardized standard deviation (SD) method, which compares the magnitude of variance of climatic indices, was used to detect which climatic parameter was the most important for explaining northward distribution of these species. We presume that the climatic parameter that has the smallest variance at the north limit would be assigned as the dominant climatic factor for limiting the distribution of this species. The results derived from the standardized SD method indicated that the SD value of warmth index (WI) and/or annual biotemperature (ABT) were the smallest among the 11 climatic indices. Since both WI and ABT represent growing season temperature, it suggested that growing season temperature was the most important climatic factor for explaining the northward distribution of these temperate tree species. The relationships between several climatic indices, WI, coldness index (CI), annual precipitation (AP), annual range of temperature (ART) and humid/arid index were also analyzed. As a result, at the north limits of all these species, both WI and CI decreased with an increase of AP, and CI increased with an increase of ART. Besides growing season temperature, precipitation and climatic continentality also have influence on the northward distribution of the temperate trees in eastern North America. 展开更多

The effect of seed coat on drying dynamic characteristics and the changes of seed coat structure were investigated. A mathematical model was established to simulate the drying process and determine the moisture diffusivity. Numerical results agree well with the experimental data. The average moisture diffusivity of the seed with separated coat is 1.67 times larger than that of the seed with coat, and the moisture diffusivity of seed cotyledon is 3.2 times larger than that of the seed coat. It is proved that the seed coat is the most main resistance of mass transfer and is also one of the key points of the optimization of heat and mass transfer for seed drying. 展开更多

Direct current observations in the Yellow Sea interior are very scarce due to intense fishing and trawling activities. Most previous studies on tides in the area were based on coastal measurements or satellite altimeter sea levels and have not been rigorously compared with direct measurements. In this paper, tidal currents are studied with current profiles from three bottom-moored Sontek Acoustic Doppler Profilers (ADPs) deployed in the southern Yellow Sea in summer of 2001 and 2003. The measured current series were dominated by tidal currents. Maximum velocities are between 40–80 cm/s at the mooring stations. M2 current is the most dominant primary tidal constituent, while MS4 and M4 are the most significant shallow water tides with much smaller amplitudes than the primary tides. 展开更多

Based on the analysis of several objective functions,a new method was proposed.Firstly,the feature of the inclination curve was analyzed.On this basis,the soil could be divided into several blocks with different displacements and deformations.Then,the method of the soil division was presented,and the characteristic of single soil block was studied.The displacement of the block had two components:sliding and deformation.Moreover,a new objective function was constructed according to the deformation of the soil block.Finally,the sensitivities of the objective functions by traditional method and the new method were calculated,respectively.The result shows that the new objective function is more sensitive to mechanical parameters and the inversion result is close to that obtained by the large direct shear apparatus.So,this method can be used in slope back analysis and its effectiveness is proved. 展开更多
