The authors excluded this possibility based on two experimental results: First, enclosing the young lotus pod with aluminium foil, the growth of louts embryo continued, but the chlorophyll formation was seriously inhibited. A lot of protochlorophyllide, chlorophyll precursor, were accumulated, most of which were combined with LPOR (light dependent protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase). Second, DPOR (dark or light-independent protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase) was the enzyme necessary for chlorophyll synthesis in the dark. The genes encoding DPOR were conservative in many species, but no homologues could be found in lotus genome. Taken together, authers' results clearly demonstrated that lotus embryo synthesizes chlorophyll only through the light-dependent pathway.展开更多

The activities of two enzymes, lipoxygenase (LOX), a key enzyme ofjasmonate (JA) pathway, and phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), a rate-limiting enzyme of phenyl- propanoid pathway, were measured in the leaves of one-year-old poplar (Populus simonii × P. pyramidalis 'Opera 8277') cuttings after Clostera anachoreta larvae attack. The results show that the increased activities of LOX and PAL were found not only in the leaves wounded by C. anachoreta larvae but also in their tipper systemic leaves, indicating that JA and phenylpropanoid pathways were activated, and the defense response was stimulated systemically. The increase in LOX and PAL activities in neighboring intact poplar cuttings sug- gested that there exists the interplant communication between poplar plants mediated by the herbivore-induced volatiles. Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) was also proved to be an airborne signal to induce defense response in P simonii × P pyramidalis 'Opera 8277' cuttings.展开更多

The total yields ranged from 31% to 85%. Compound 4 c exhibited a stronger antioxidant activity compared with Trolox, with half maximal inhibitory concentrations(IC50) of approximately 13.06 μM, and the antioxidant mechanism was further studied using computational chemistry. Compounds 1 c–5 c exhibited minimal anti-tyrosinase activity. Compounds 4 c, 5 d, 6 c and 6 d exhibited weak anti-pancreatic lipase activity, with an inhibition rate of 33.52%, 15.76%, 18.37% and 20.77%, respectively. These results demonstrated that all compounds had reference significance, especially compound 4 c.展开更多
