The electrochemical activity showed that the catalyst gave outstanding catalytic activity and selectivity in CO2 electroreduction. The catalytic activity and formate selectivity depended strongly on the electrolyte conditions. A high faradaic efficiency, i.e., 56%, was achieved for formate formation in KHCO3 (0.5 mol/L). This is attributed to control of formate production by mass and charge transfer processes. Electrolysis experiments using SnO2-50/GDE (an SnOz-based gas-diffusion electrode, where 50 indicates the 50% ethanol content of the electrolyte) as the catalyst, showed that the electrolyte pH also affected CO2 reduction. The optimum electrolyte pH for obtaining a high faradaic efficiency for formate production was 8.3. This is mainly because a neutral or mildly alkaline environment maintains the oxide stability. The fara- daic efficiency for formate production declined with time. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that this is the result of deposition of trace amounts of fluoride ions on the SnO2-50/GDE surface, which hinders reduction of CO2 to formate.展开更多

We aimed to improve the sulfite transformation efficiency and provide a basis for the direct utilization of SO2 from flue gas by a microalgal suspension. Chlorella sp. XQ-20044 was cultured in a medium with 20 mmol/L sodium sulfite under different physicochemical conditions. Under light conditions, sulfite concentration in the algal suspension reduced linearly over time, and was completely converted into sulfate within 8 h. The highest sulfite transformation rate (3.25 mmol/ (L.h)) was obtained under the following conditions: 35℃, light intensity of 300 μmol/(m^2·s), NaHCO3 concentration of 6 g/L, initial cell density (OD540) of 0.8 and pH of 9-10. There was a positive correlation between sulfite transformation rate and the growth of Chlorella, with the conditions favorable to algal growth giving better sulfite transformation. Although oxygen in the air plays a role in the transformation of SO3^2- to SO^2-, the transformation is mainly dependent on the metabolic activity of algal cells. Chlorella sp. XQ-20044 is capable of tolerating high sulfite concentration, and can utilize sulfite as the sole sulfur source for maintaining healthy growth. We found that sulfite 〈20 mmol/L had no obvious effect on the total lipid content and fatty acid profiles of the algae, Thus, the results suggest it is feasible to use flue gas for the mass production of feedstock for biodiesel using Chlorella sp. XQ-20044, without preliminary removal of SO2, assuming there is adequate control of the pH.展开更多

The film was electrodeposited on the surface of the Mg-RE alloy in cerium nitrate solution. The compositions and morphologies were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning election microscopy (SEM). The corrosion behaviors of the film were investigated electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization tests and immersion tests. The results show that the optimum parameters for electrochemical deposition are as follows: pH 10.0, time 30 min, 50 mmol/L Na2CO3 and temperature 25 ℃ by the designed experiments according to the orthogonal table L(9, 34). The corrosion protection efficiency is dependent on the deposition parameters. The cerium conversion film shows better corrosion protection behavior than chromate conversion film on Mg-Gd-Y-Zr magnesium alloy.展开更多

The experimental results indicate that the effects of particle size and sulfuric acid concentration on the nickel extraction are remarkable; the effect of reaction temperature is mild; while the effect of stirring speed in the range of 400-1 200 r/min is negligible. Decreasing particle size or increasing sulfuric acid concentration and reaction temperature, the nickel extraction efficiency is improved. 93.5% of nickel in residue is extracted under suitable leaching conditions, including particle size (0.074-0.100) mm, sulfuric acid concentration 30% (mass fraction), temperature 80 ~C, reaction time 180 min, mass ratio of liquid to solid 10 and stirring speed 800 r/min. The leaching kinetics analyses shows that the reaction rate of leaching process is controlled by diffusion through the product layer, and the calculated activation energy of 15.8 kJ/mol is characteristic for a diffusion controlled process.展开更多

Total numbers of the microbial population (bacteria, fungi, and actinomyces) along with urease activities in the macrophytic root zones were determined. In addition, the relationships between microbial populations and urease activities as well as the wastewater purification efficiencies of total phosphorus (TP), total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), biochemical oxygen demand in 5 days (BOD5), and chemical oxygen demand (COD) were also analyzed. The results showed that there was a highly significant positive correlation (r = 0.9772, P < 0.01) between the number of bacteria in the root zones and BOD5 removal efficiency and a significant negative correlation (r = -0.9092, P < 0.05) between the number of fungi and the removal efficiency of TKN. Meanwhile, there was a significant positive correlation (r -- 0.8830, P < 0.05) between urease activities in the root zones and the removal efficiency of TKN. Thus, during wastewater treatment in a constructed wetland system, microorganism and urease activities in the root zones were very important factors.展开更多

A study on efficiency and reaction kinetics of microcystin-LR ( MC-LR ) degradation by CIO2 was performed. Experimental results indicated that MC-LR was removed by CIO2 effectively and the residual concentration of MC-LR could meet the national guideline(GB5749 - 2006) (1.0 μg · L^-1), the efficiency of removal was in positive correlation to CIO2 dosage and reaction time and in negative correlation to initial concentration of MC-LR and pH value, whereas it was affected by temperature slightly. CIO2 dosage was the most important reaction factor on base of the orthogonal test results. The reaction was second order overall and first order with respect to both CIO2 and MC- LR, and had an activation energy of 78.81 kJ · mo1^-1 . The reaction rate constant was 4.74× 10-^2 L/(mol · min) at 10 ℃. Therefore, oxidation of CIO~ could be taken as an effective technology for removing MC-LR from drinking water resources in traditional drinking water supplies.展开更多

Optimal condition for immobilization was performed by adjusting tube distance to CaCI2 solution to be 4-6 cm and 7 mL/min flow rate of alginate gel. The production of propionic acid by immobilized cells in a 2 L fermentor using 1% CaCO3 and 5 N KOH to control the pH at 6.5 gave maximum propionic acid and they had consistent potential to recycle 2 rounds of fermentation and produced the total of 29.24 g/L propionic acid (15.85 ± 0.25 g/L and 13.39 ± 0.25 g/L propionic acid from Batch 1 and Batch 2 fermentation, respectively). Compared to free-cell fermentation, propionic acid productivity increased 20% (0.083 g/h vs. 0.070 g/h) and fermentation time reduced 11% (192 h vs. 216 h) in 2 L fermentor with 40 g/L initial total sugar from whey. The fermented propionic acid as well as the commercial propionic acid from chemical process was able to inhibit the growth of the fungal tested.展开更多

For preparation of research objects, we used dry wine material of red grape variety "Saperavi". After completion of malolactic fermentation, the second racking the wine material off the lees and its treatment with antiseptics were carried out. Sulfur dioxide (Kadifit) and different doses of nanostructured silver were used. Microbiological investigation was performed on the presence of lactic bacteria after completion of malolactic fermentation and racking off the lees. The investigation of phenolic compounds was conducted at the following stages of technological processes: (1) after completion of alcoholic fermentation and racking off the lees; (2) after completion of malolactic fermentation; (3) after the second racking off the lees and treatment with antiseptics. By means of the HPLC analysis, the amounts ofcatechins, phenolcarbonic acids and flavonols were determined.
