Stability analysis unit and spatial distribution pattern of the terrain texture in the northern Shaanxi Loess Plateau 被引量:4

Terrain texture analysis is an important method of digital terrain analysis in quantitative geomorphological research and in the exploration of the spatial heterogeneity and autocorrelation of terrain features. However, a major issue often neglected in previous studies is the calculation unit of the terrain texture, that is, the stability analysis unit. As the test size increases, the derived terrain textures become increasingly similar so that their differences can be ignored. The test size of terrain texture is defined as the stability analysis unit. This study randomly selected 48 areas within the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi in China as the study sites and used the gray level co-occurrence matrix to calculate the terrain texture. The stability analysis unit of the terrain texture was then extracted, and its spatial distribution pattern in the Loess Plateau was studiedusing spatial interpolation method. Four terrain texture metrics, i.e., homogeneity, energy, correlation, and contrast, were extracted on the basis of the stability analysis unit, and the spatial variation patterns of these parameters were studied. Results showed that the spatial distribution pattern and the terrain texture metrics reflected a trend of high–low–high from north to south, which correlated with the spatial distribution of the landforms at the Loess Plateau. In addition, the terrain texture measures was significantly correlated with the terrain factors of gully density and slope, and this relationship showed that terrain texture measures based on the stability analysis unit could reflect the basic characteristics of terrain morphology. The stability analysis unit provided a reasonable analytical scale for terrain texture analysis and could be used as a measure of the regional topography to accurately describe basic terrain characteristics. 展开更多

Multiple sclerosis is a neurodegenerative and inflammatory disease, a hallmark of which is demyelinating lesions in the white matter. We hypothesized that alterations in white matter microstructures can be non-invasively characterized by advanced diffusion magnetic resonance imaging. Seven diffusion metrics were extracted from hybrid diffusion imaging acquisitions via classic diffusion tensor imaging, neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging, and q-space imaging. We investigated the sensitivity of the diffusion metrics in 36 sets of regions of interest in the brain white matter of six female patients(age 52.8 ± 4.3 years) with multiple sclerosis. Each region of interest set included a conventional T2-defined lesion, a matched perilesion area, and normal-appearing white matter. Six patients with multiple sclerosis(n = 5) or clinically isolated syndrome(n = 1) at a mild to moderate disability level were recruited. The patients exhibited microstructural alterations from normal-appearing white matter transitioning to perilesion areas and lesions, consistent with decreased tissue restriction, decreased axonal density, and increased classic diffusion tensor imaging diffusivity. The findings suggest that diffusion compartment modeling and q-spa ce analysis appeared to be sensitive for detecting subtle microstructural alterations between perilesion areas and normal-appearing white matter. 展开更多

The gray level values of target pixels of infrared images processed by the SUSAN noise filtering algorithm and the background filtering algorithm are calculated,assuming that the target distance is given in image acquisition.The equivalent blackbody temperature is obtained by the temperature calibration model that represents the quantitative relation,at a certain integration time,between the gray level value and the equivalent blackbody temperature.The temperature calibration model has been acquired by the curve fitting with the experimental data of blackbody temperature calibration using Origin 6.0.Then the target radiance can be determined by the radiant flux equivalence model built on condition that the target radiant flux received by the infrared detector is equivalent to that of the blackbody placed in front of the infrared detector at a close distance.This measuring method is based on the temperature calibration parameters and real image information,so it can avoid subjectivity of the traditional theory modeling methods. 展开更多

Security metrics help to make functional and business decisions for improving the performance and cost of the security controls. However, defining enterprise-level security metrics has already been listed as one of the hard problems in the Info Sec Research Council's hard problems list. Almost all the efforts in defining absolute security metrics for the enterprise security have not been proved fruitful. At the same time, with the maturity of the security industry, there has been a continuous emphasis from the regulatory bodies on establishing measurable security metrics. This paper addresses this need and proposes a relative security metric model that derives three quantitative security metrics named Attack Resiliency Measure(ARM), Performance Improvement Factor(PIF), and Cost/Benefit Measure(CBM) for measuring the performance of the security controls. For the effectiveness evaluation of the proposed security metrics, we took the secure virtual machine(VM) migration protocol as the target of assessment. The virtual-ization technologies are rapidly changing the landscape of the computing world. Devising security metrics for virtualized environment is even more challenging. As secure virtual machine migration is an evolving area and no standard protocol is available specifically for secure VM migration. This paper took the secure virtual machine migration protocol as the target of assessment and applied the proposed relative security metric model for measuring the Attack Resiliency Measure, Performance Improvement Factor, and Cost/Benefit Measure of the secure VM migration protocol. 展开更多

Exploration of influential people is really a hot issue for effective viral marketing these days. Prior studies overlooked to consider the influence of interaction between users and the authority of users during information dissemination. In this article, we proposed an innovative concept by employing communication strength and authority in order to explore the influential people. First, we calculated communication strength by three kinds of actions including retweets, comments and mentions. Second, we deliberated authority metric by employing total times getting re-tweeted, number of tweets and followers of a user. Then, we propose a novel algorithm called Influential People Label Propagation Algorithm(IPLPA) that considers the proposed metric to explore the influential people in micro-blog networks. We performed extensive experiments to measure the influence and rank of each person within micro-blog network. The comparative study presents that IPLPA depicted effective people while baseline algorithms retrieved low influenced people at top rank. Additionally, influence dissemination also measured for obtained influential people in order to validate proposed concept. The findings of this study would be useful for viral marketing and advertisement campaigns. 展开更多

The bright band, a layer of enhanced radar reflectivity associated with melting ice particles, is a major source of signifi- cant overestimation in quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) based on the Z-R (reflectivity factor-rain rate) relationship. The effects of the bright band on radar-based QPE can be eliminated by vertical profile of reflectivity (VPR) correction. In this study, we applied bright-band correction algorithms to evaluate three different bands (S-, C- and X-band) of dual-polarized radars and to reduce overestimation errors in Z-R relationship-based QPEs. After the reflectivity was corrected by the algo- rithms using average VPR (AVPR) alone and a combination of average VPR and the vertical profile of the copolar correlation coefficient (AVPR+CC), the QPEs were derived. The bright-band correction and resulting QPEs were evaluated in eight precipitation events by comparing to the uncorrected reflectivity and rain-gange observations, separately. The overestimation of Z-R relationship-based QPEs associated with the bright band was reduced after correction by the two schemes for which hourly rainfall was less than 5 mm. For the verification metrics of RMSE (root-mean-square error), RMAE (relative mean absolute error) and RMB (relative mean bias) of QPEs, averaged over all eight cases, the AVPR method improved from 2.28, 0.94 and 0.78 to 1.55, 0.60 and 0.40, respectively, while the AVPR+CC method improved to 1.44, 0.55 and 0.30, respectively. The QPEs after AVPR+CC correction had less overestimation than those after AVPR correction, and similar conclusions were drawn for all three different bands of dual-polarized radars. 展开更多

This method makes no assumption on the distributions. Topsoe distance is symmetrized Kullback-Leibler divergence by average of the probabilities. The square root of Topsoe distance is a metric. We extend this metric from probability density functions to real number series on (0, 1 ]. We call it ST-metric. We show the consistency of ST-metric with mean-variance theory and stochastic dominance method of order one and two. Water samples were collected in 120 stations in the Bohai Sea of China to analyze the distribution of dissolved nutrients and assess the degree of eutrophication in August 2002. The result shows that the average concentration of DIN increased and the PO4-P concentration sharply decreased compared to the previous data of corresponding period. The high concentrations of DIN and PO4-P occurred in coastal waters, especially in the bays and some river estuaries, while the high concentrations of SiO3-Si in the surface and middle depth occurred in the central area of the Bohai Sea. The average ratio of DIN/PO4-P was much higher than the Redfield Ratio (16:1). Apparently, PO4-P was one of the limiting nutrient for phytoplankton growing in the sea. The average concentrations of DON and DOP were higher than their inorganic forms. The results of eutrophication assessment show that 22.1% of all stations were classified as violating the concentration levels of the National Seawater Quality Standard (GB 3097-1997) for DIN and only 3.9% for PO4-R The average eutrophication index in the overall area was 0.21±0.22 and the high values occurred in Bohai Bay, Liaodong Bay and near the Yellow River estuary. This means that the state of eutrophication was generally mesotrophic in the Bohai Sea, but relatively worse in the bays, especially some river estuaries. 展开更多

The network coverage is a big problem in ocean communication, and there is no low-cost solution in the short term. Based on the knowledge of Mobile Delay Tolerant Network(MDTN), the mobility of vessels can create the chances of end-to-end communication. The mobility pattern of vessel is one of the key metrics on ocean MDTN network. Because of the high cost, few experiments have focused on research of vessel mobility pattern for the moment. In this paper, we study the traces of more than 4000 fishing and freight vessels. Firstly, to solve the data noise and sparsity problem, we design two algorithms to filter the noise and complement the missing data based on the vessel's turning feature. Secondly, after studying the traces of vessels, we observe that the vessel's traces are confined by invisible boundary. Thirdly, through defining the distance between traces, we design MR-Similarity algorithm to find the mobility pattern of vessels. Finally, we realize our algorithm on cluster and evaluate the performance and accuracy. Our results can provide the guidelines on design of data routing protocols on ocean MDTN. 展开更多

The psychrometer equation is a frequently used method of estimating wet-bulb temperature, and contains apsychrometer 'constant'. Analysis shows that this is in fact a variable coefficient affected by temperature, pressure,radiation and conduction effects, and the identity of the gas and vapour. Radiation and conduction affect the dif-ference between adiabatic saturation temperature and indicated wet-bulb temperature. Inconsistencies in currentlyrecommended values for the psychrometer coefficient, including published international standards, are identifiedand explained. Particular problems arise when the enhancement factor is applied to vapour pressure to accountfor non-ideality of gases. Special considerations are also needed for wet-bulb temperatures approaching the boilingpoint, where the psychrometer coefficient tends to zero. Self-consistent recommendations recently published in thenew British Standard BS1339 are given, which cover both the air-water system and a general vapour-gas system. 展开更多
