Developmental Differences, Yield and Late Blight (Phytophthora infestans)Infection of Potato Plants Grown under Organic and Conventional Systems

In the years 2008-2010, an experiment was conducted Phytophthora infestans under organic and conventional production on four potato cultivars differing in maturity and resistance to systems. During the growing season, plant growth was evaluated by measuring plant height, stem number, leaf and stem biomass and leaf area index (LAI). Photosynthetic active radiation (PAR) absorption and leaf chlorophyll content were also measured. The rate of late blight development, tuber yield, tuber size, and harvest index was assessed. There were significant differences between the two production systems in the most studied parameters. Plants growing in the organic system were characterized by reduced plant development compared to plants growing in the conventional system. As a result of lower plant growth, tuber yield was reduced by 22% and tuber size was smaller. Harvest index did not differ significantly between production systems. A positive effect of the reduced development of aboveground plant parts in the organic system was later appearance of the first symptoms of late blight and slower spread the disease. 展开更多

On the other hand, the growth results in spectrum scarcity. Cog- nitive Radio (CR) systems have been proposed to efficiently exploit the spectra that have been assigned but are underutilized. In this paper, a spectrum sensing model based on Markov chain is proposed to predict the spectrum hole for CR in wireless IoT. Theoretical analysis and simulation results have been evaluated that a Markov model with two- state or four-state works well enough in wireless loT whereas a model with more states is not necessary for it is complex. 展开更多

Optical fiber based SPR sensors have attracted more and more attention due to their unique advantages over the prism-based SPR sensors. A novel fiber-optic SPR sensor with multi-alternating metal layers for biochemical analysis is presented in this paper. Based on the fundamental SPR theory of the fiber optic sensing technology, we theoretically investigated the effects of the existence of alternating layers deposited on sensing region SPR wavelength changes. The emphasis was placed on the numerical simulation of the fiber-optic SPR sensor's sensitivity which could be affected by its technical parameters such as the metal thickness, number of alternating layers. Results showed that, compared to the normal SPR sensor with the single metal layer, the proposed sensor had a wider detecting range of the refractive index and higher sensitivity, which can find applications in biological analysis. 展开更多
