Two conceits (concetti) are considered in analyzing Tintoretto's female imagery: (1) a fanciful invention of musica extravaganza; and (2) a Venetian allegory of bellezza. The first part of the essay discusses the provenance of the painting and the second part presents an iconographical interpretation of the imagery. This essay also focuses on the iconography of the painting based on viewing the subject and does not postulate on its iconography based on disappeared paintings or on a speculative decorative cycle on the theme of Hercules. Relying on well-documented research on music in Venice, on Mannerist practices, and on art theories during Tintoretto's life, some intriguing observations are made about the painting.展开更多

The song lyrics of the first three albums deal, among other things, with the usual topics the youth of the time were concerned with (love, rebellion and resistance against the establishment), although they were viewed from a different angle: instead of love the lyrics talk about prostitution (Charlotte the Harlot), sexual harassment (Prowler), and juvenile criminality (Running Free). This paper aims, on the one hand to show an overview of the topics of the song lyrics from the earlier Iron Maiden albums, and on the other hand to examine the concrete consequences the lyrics had on the music of the band (text interpretation). During the 1980s, Iron Maiden began to diverge both musically (in the direction of experimental heavy metal) and thematically (among others, science fiction and war) from the NWoBHM. A further aim of this paper is to examine how much these new themes in the narrative influenced the music of Iron Maiden.展开更多

Due to the toxicity of OPs and the threat presented by their accidental or intentional release in populated areas, the determination and monitoring of these OPs in food products and environment is of great importance. OPs are present in very small quantities and therefore, methods for their detection need to be highly sensitive and selective. Here, we aimed to develop a simple and selective aptamer-based colorimetric assay for the detection of omethoate, which is one of the commonly used OPs. The principle of the assay is that single-stranded DNA(ss DNA)-wrapped gold nanoparticles(Au NPs) are resistant to salt-induced aggregation. By employing an "artificial antibody" organophosphorous pesticide-binding aptamer(OBA) as the recognition element, aptamer-wrapped Au NPs(Au-apta) show high selectivity towards omethoate, resulting in the disconnection of aptamers from Au NPs and the aggregation of Au NPs. As there is a significant color change from the interparticle plasmon coupling during the aggregation of Au NPs, the established assay showed good linearity between 0.1 and 10 μmol/L, with a low detection limit of 0.1 μmol/L. Other OPs such as profenofos, phorate, and isocarbophos would not interfere with the detection of omethoate despite having similar structures. Thus, the colorimetric method shows potential for use in the detection of omethoate in real soil samples.展开更多
