The precise bond slip values have been gained by using the laser displacement sensor with high resolution, including the complete bond-slip curves. How the main anchorage factors such as concrete strength, bar diameter (8, I0, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 and 36 mm) the concrete covered, embedded length and transverse reinforcement influencing the bond anchorage properties was studied under tensile condition. The process of the tensile force-slip failure for Australian 500N reinforcing steel can be divided into five stages: elastic stage, local slip stage, slip in ascent stage, slip in descent stage and remnant stage. The formula for calculating the tensile bond strength of Australian 500N reinforcing bar in concrete was proposed according to the test results, including the consistent model for tensile bond-slip relationship.展开更多

A heat input model reported for similar FSW was simplified and used to investigate the effects of welding speed, rotation speed and tool shoulder diameter on the microstructure and properties of dissimilar welds. The comparison between microstructure, intermetallics and strength of welds shows the good conformity between the results and the calculated heat input factor (HIF) achieved from the model. The joint strength is controlled by Al/Fe interface at HIF of 0.2-0.4, by TMAZ at HIF of 0.4-0.8 and by intermetallics and/or defects at HIF0.8.展开更多

A comprehensive laboratory testing program was designed to evaluate the tensile and shear strength of individual wires and completely wound PC-strand cables. PC-strand cables with smooth wires and the recent anchorage enhancement innovation of indentation were evaluated and compared. The testing protocol detailed in ISO Standard 15630 utilizes a mandrel system that was investigated at 3different diameters which alters the wire to mandrel ratio from 2:1 to 9:1. The results demonstrate that the difference between smooth and indented wires is statistically insignificant when larger diameter mandrels are used, and that indentation does not adversely affect strand properties and performance.Insight into the shearing mechanism and evaluation techniques are discussed with the introduction of triaxial loading to describe the PC-strand tensile and shearing mechanisms. Another important result indicates that the shear strength of PC-strand cable bolting systems has a greater shear strength value than traditional steel bar bolting systems.展开更多

Fracture mechanisms were also analyzed based on the relationship between microstructure transformation and continuous cooling transformation(CCT) curves. It is found that 1) fractures of the investigated steel at high temperatures are dimple fractures; 2) the deformation of high-strength boron steel at high temperatures accelerates diffusion transformations; thus, to obtain full martensite, a higher cooling rate is needed; and 3) the investigated steel has the best plasticity when the deformation temperature is 750 °C.展开更多

The specimen were cut from B-grade bulletproof steel sheet after hard-module quenching with thickness of 2.3 mm. The mechanical properties at strain rates of 0.001 s^-1, 0.01 s^-1, 0.1 s^-1 and 1 s^-1 were carried out on MTSS10, while those at higher strain rates of 200 s^-1, 500 s^-1 and i 000 s^-1 were tested on HTM5020 high speed tension tester and Hopkinson bar. The data from the high speed tension experiments were fitted via Johnson-Cook constitutive equation, and the fracture surface of each specimen was analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results indicate that, the shoot resistance capability of bulletproof steel is closely related to its strength, thickness and flow behaviors under high strain rate. The shoot resistance will be improved in the case of higher strength and better matching between strength and elongation. The Johnson-Cook constitutive equation fitted via experimental data provides fundament to numerical simulation. With the increase of strain rate, the size and depth of dimple trend to decrease and the depth of dimple changes less in steel with lower strength and higher elongation. The SEM analysis of fracture aspect is of benefit for further understanding of deformation and fracture mode under high strain rate.展开更多

When HSS is spot welded, the strength of the welded-joint is usually determined by the attributes of the weld nugget. However, it is difficult to obtain the circular nugget and to establish the relationship between the weld attributes and welding quality because of a large number of variables and experimental uncertainty. In the paper, the numerical analysis model of tensile-shear strength test for HSS spot welds was established. And the critical ellipticity of the elliptical spot weld was determined through finite element analysis. Quantitative relationship between elliptical weld attributes and weld strength was investigated statistically using the Latin hypercube and regression analysis method. The sheet thickness, nugget eUipticity, hardness radio and yield strength have the most influential attributes in affecting welding quality. The research results can be used as a guideline for HSS resistance spot welding design.展开更多
