Effect of modified humic acid binder on pelletisation of specularite concentrates 被引量:3

A modified humic acid(MHA) binder was tested as a substitute for bentonite to prepare qualified specularite pellets. The results show that there is stronger chemisorption between organic functional groups in MHA binder molecular and specularite particles, improving the green pellet strength. MHA binder has obvious effect on the strength and microstructure of preheated pellets due to the thermal decomposition of organic matters in MHA binder. Appropriately increasing preheating temperature or time can eliminate the adverse impact of organic matters on the preheated pellet strength. Compared with the bentonite pellets, the roasted pellets with MHA binder have a more compact microstructure, and the recrystallization of the Fe2O3 crystal grains is better.Consequently, under optimal conditions, 0.75%(mass fraction) MHA binder pellets have equal or better pellet strengths and contain1.06% more total iron than 2 % bentonite pellets. The testing results indicate that MHA binder is a promising and effective alternative to bentonite for the specularite pellets. 展开更多

AIM:To define which segments of the gastrointestinal tract are most likely to yield angioectasias for ablative therapy. METHODS:A retrospective chart review was performed for patients treated in the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Gastroenterology clinics between the dates of July 1, 2007 and October 1, 2010. The selection of cases for review was initiated by use of our electronic medical record to identify all patients with a diagnosis of angioectasia, angiodysplasia, or arteriovenous malformation. Of these cases, chart reviews identified patients who had a complete evaluation of their gastrointestinal tract as defined by at least one upper endoscopy, colonoscopy and small bowel capsule endoscopy within the past three years. Patients without evidence of overt gastrointestinal bleeding or iron deficiency anemia associated with intestinal angioectasias were classified as asymptomatic and excluded from this analysis. Thirty-five patients with confirmed, bleeding intestinal angioectasias who had undergone complete endoscopic evaluation of the gastrointestinal tract were included in the final analysis. RESULTS:A total of 127 cases were reviewed. Sixtysix were excluded during subsequent screening due to lack of complete small bowel evaluation and/or lack of documentation of overt bleeding or iron deficiency anemia. The 61 remaining cases were carefully examined with independent review of endoscopic images as well as complete capsule endoscopy videos. This anal- ysis excluded 26 additional cases due to insufficient records/images for review, incomplete capsule examination, poor capsule visualization or lack of confirmation of typical angioectasias by the principal investigator on independent review. Thirty-five cases met criteria for final analysis. All study patients were age 50 years or older and 13 patients (37.1%) had chronic kidney disease stage 3 or higher. Twenty of 35 patients were taking aspirin (81 mg or 325 mg), clopidogrel, and/or warfarin, with 8/20 on combination therapy. The number and location of angioectasis was documented for each case. Lesions were then classified into the following segments of the gastrointestinal tract:esophagus, stomach, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, right colon and left colon. The location of lesions within the small bowel observed by capsule endoscopy was generally defined by percentage of total small bowel transit time with times of 0%-9%, 10%-39%, and 40%-100% corresponding to the duodenum, jejunum and ileum, respectively. Independent review of complete capsule studies allowed for deviation from this guideline if capsule passage was delayed in one or more segments. In addition, the location and number of angioectasias observed in the small bowel was further modified or confirmed by subsequent device-assisted enteroscopy (DAE) performed in the 83% of cases. In our study population, angioectasias were most commonly found in the jejunum (80%) followed by the duodenum (51%), stomach (22.8%), and right colon (11.4%). Only two patients were found to have angioectasias in the ileum (5.7%). Twenty-one patients (60%) had angioectasias in more than one location.CONCLUSION:Patients being considered for endoscopic ablation of symptomatic angioectasias should undergo push enteroscopy or anterograde DAE and reinspection of the right colon. 展开更多

Their coagulation effect on micro-polluted water was compared with the poly ferric choride (PFC) saled in the market. The results showed that turbidity, organic matter, total phosphorus, total nitrogen removal rate ofPFSiC, PFSiS coagulant were better than PFC on micro-polluted water treatment at the same dosage. The coagulation effect of PFSiC was the best. The surface morphology of three coagulants was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the coagulation mechanism was discussed preliminarily. 展开更多

Chalcopyrite oxidation rates were examined under various conditions in the presence of Leptospirillum ferriphilum,in which the effects of different pulp content,inoculation amount,external addition of Fe3+ and initial pH value were studied.The bioleaching residues were investigated by X-ray diffractograms(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersion spectrum(EDS) analysis.The results show that low pulp concentration increases the leaching rate of copper,and external addition of Fe3+ is also beneficial to leaching chalcopyrite.The changes of inoculation amount and initial pH from 1.6 to 2.5 have a little effect on the final leaching rate.The results also imply that Fe3+ ions are important for bioleaching of chalcopyrite.At the end of bioleaching,jarosite and sulfur are observed on the surface of chalcopyrite residues by using XRD,SEM and EDS.With the passivation layer formed by jarosite and sulfur,the continuous copper extraction is effectively blocked. 展开更多

Bacterial leaching of single sulfide minerals and polymetallic sulfide ores was operated in shake flasks and small-scaled columns.The results show that bioleaching of jamesonite is not accessible,the iron extraction rate of pyrrhotite bioleaching reaches 98.2% after 26 d,and the zinc extraction rate of marmatite bioleaching reaches 92.3%,while the corresponding iron extraction reaches only 13.6% after 29 d.Pulp density has a significant effect on metal extraction of pyrrhotite and marmatite bioleaching.The corresponding metal extraction rate decreases with the increase of pulp density.For the polymetallic sulfide ores,zinc extraction of 97.1% is achieved after bioleaching in shake flasks for 10 d,while only 7.8% is obtained after bioleaching in small-scaled column.Analytical results of scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis(EDX) reveal that large amount of calcium sulfate is formed on the mineral surface. 展开更多

Gender preference and implications for screening colonoscopy:Impact of endoscopy nurses

AIM: TO assess the gender preferences, specifically the gender of the nursing staff (endoscopy assistants) and the impact on acceptance for screening colonoscopy (SC). METHODS: Patients or relatives attending the clinics or health care workers working in a tertiary center were invited to participate in this questionnaire study. The questionnaire enquired on the general demographics (1) age, gender, ethnicity, education level, and employ- ment status, previous history of colonoscopy, family or personal history of colonic pathologies, personal and family history of any cancers; (2) subjects were asked if they would go for an SC if they had appropriate indi- cations (age over 50 years, family history of colorectal cancer (CRC), fecal occult blood positive, anemia espe- cially iron deficiency anemia, bleeding per rectum with or without loss of appetite, weight loss and abdominal pain) with and without symptoms attributable to CRC; and (3) preferences for the gender of the endoscopists and assistants and whether they would still undergo SC even if their preferences were not met. RESULTS: Eighty-four point seven percent (470/550) completed questionnaire were analysed. More female subjects expressed gender preferences for the endos- copists [overall 70%; female (67.7%) and male (2.3%)] compared to male subjects [overall 62.8%; male (56%) and female (6.8%), P = 0.102]. Similarly, more female subjects expressed gender preferences for the assis- tants [overall 74.5%; female (73.4%) and male (1.1%)] compared to male subjects [overall 58%, male (49.3%) and female (8.7%), P 〈 0.001]. Overall, a third would decline an SC, despite having appropriate indications, if their preferences were not met. On univariate analysis, male gender, non-Malay ethnicity (Chinese and others) and previous colonoscopy experience were more likely to undergo an SC, even if their preferences were not met (all P 〈 0.05). Gender and previous experience fodds ratio (OR) 1.68, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.00-2.82, P 〈 0.05] with colonoscopy (OR 4.70, 95% CI 1.41-15.66, P 〈 0.05) remained significant on multi variate analysis. CONCLUSION: Genders preference for the endoscopy nurses/assistants is more common than for the endos- copist among women and has implications for the suc cess of a screening colonoscopy program. 展开更多

Some of the copper tailings can be recycled to recover valuable minerals. In this paper, a copper tailing was studied through the chemical analysis method, Xray diffraction and scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectrum. It turned out that chalcopyrite(Cu) and pyrite(S) were the main recoverable minerals in the tailing. In order to separate chalcopyrite from pyrite in low pulp pH, ammonium humate(AH) was singled out as the effective regulator. The depression mechanism of AH on the flotation of pyrite was proved by FTIR spectrum and XPS spectrum, demonstrating that there was a chemical adsorption between AH and pyrite. By Response Surface Methodology(RSM), the interaction between AH, pulp pH and iso-butyl ethionine(Z200) was discussed. It was illustrated that the optimal dosage of AH was 1678 g·t^(-1) involving both the recovery of Cu and S. The point prediction by RSM and the closed-circuit flotation displayed that the qualified Cu concentrate and S concentrate could be obtained from the copper tailing.The study indicated that AH was a promising pyrite depressor in the low pulp pH from copper tailings. 展开更多

This paper presents a study of the relationship between the magnetic properties and microstructure of nanocomposite Ni/MnO, Ni/CoO, Co/MnO, Co/CoO. The objective is to understand how the coupling interface FM/AFM (ferromagnetic/anti-ferromagnetic) manifests itself in magnetic response of these materials to an applied field. Sample preparation was performed using mechanochemical synthesis by means of a ball mill planetary type high power at normal atmosphere. The characterization was done by XRD (X-ray diffraction), SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and VSM (vibrating sample magnetometry). Analyzing the XRD peaks of the samples studied, there was a decrease in the average particle diameter with increasing milling time, which is important in the magnetic interactions of the atoms of the surface. In addition, the diffraction pattern showed formation of new phases by oxidation interfering with the magnetic measurements. Analyses by SEM show chipboard multiform nano- and micrometer-sized grains on the surface of the clusters being responsible for the interaction. The magnetic measurements show a strong coupling between the phases present in nanocomposites showing once again that the MS (mechanosynthesis) is a powerful technique for this kind of purpose. The effect of the decrease in crystallite size leads to large variations of magnetic properties of the material which have been specifically observed changes in HC (coercive field) in the RM (remanent magnetization) and SM (saturation magnetization). The decrease in crystallite size in the course of grinding intensifies the effects that depend on the surface-to-volume ratio of the material. M vs. T measures were taken for different values of applied field and found a jump in the moment of the sample near the N6el temperature of the antiferromagnetic. 展开更多

The obtained catalysts were assembled to three-dimensional electrodes to degradation of chlorinated organic in paper wastewater. And the performance tests show that three-dimensional electrodes have high activities for degradation of chlorinated organic in paper wastewater. There are many factors affecting the electro-catalytic performances of the three-dimensional electrodes. And the orthogonal experiment results show that the optimum operating condition is as follows: the calcination time of the catalysts 2 h, the mass ratio of Fe to Zn 4:1, the voltage 12 V, the mass of the catalytic materials 6 g, the value of pH 9, and the treating time 2.5 h. LiFePO4/C composites were synthesized by a molten salt (MS) method using the mixture of LiCl,LiOH and NaCl.The prepared LiFePO4/C composites are characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD),field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and charge-discharge test.XRD patterns indicate that LiFePO4 prepared in the temperature range of 550-700 ℃ crystallizes well in an olivine-type structure.Through FESEM images,the sphere-like and homogeneous particles of 0.2 μm can be observed.The charge-discharge test shows that the materials prepared at 600 ℃ for 12 h have good electrochemical performance.At the rates of 0.2C (34 mA/g) and 0.5C,the discharge capacities are 144.6 and 122.3 mA·h/g,respectively,together with good cycle performances. 展开更多
