The microstructure and worn surfaces of the studied alloys were characterized by optical microscopy(OM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The experimental results indicate that the alloy refined by Al-5Ti-B alloy exhibits equiaxed α(Al) dendrites and performs better wear resistance compared with the alloy without the grain refiner. Moreover, the addition of Mn can change the β-Al5 Fe Si phase to α-Al(Mn,Fe)Si phase and reduce the possibility of crack formation, thus improving the wear resistance. Sn added to A356 aluminum alloy forms Mg2 Sn precipitates after heat treatment. Therefore, the unrealizable precipitation hardening Mg2 Si phase and the softening β-Sn phase can reduce the hardness of the alloy, and finally reduce the wear resistance.展开更多

In this work, the resistance behavior of various materials, including Fe-based alloys, ceramics and corresponding high apparatus of corrosion-wear in molten aluminum and its alloys, were reviewed. The synergistic effect of corrosion and wear was discussed based on corrosion and wear mechanics. The effects of dynamic agitation due to rotating of friction pairs, physical property of liquid metal and size of grain etc., on the corrosion-wear resistance performance were investigated. In addition, the characteristics of corrosion-wear resistance performance of materials in molten aluminum and its alloy were summarized. According to our recent progress referred to kinds of materials, especially a TiA13/Ti3A1C2/A1203 composite, the ceramics/metal composites with a co-continuous structure will be of great advantage in the field of corrosion-wear environment of molten aluminum and its alloys.展开更多

Results show that the dominant wear patterns are coating damage, crater wear, micro-chipping, breakage, and so on. The main wear mechanisms are adhesion, diffusion and fatigue. Compared with conventional speed machining, the effect and impact of thermal-dynamical coupling field play an important role in the cutting tool wear in high-speed milling of aluminum alloy.展开更多

The test rig consists of a cantilever beam forced by the dynamoelectric vibration exciter and a rotational shaft driven by a spindle. It has a widely adjustable range of testing parameters, including the impact frequency, the impact load and the sliding velocity. The avail- able maximum impact frequency, impact load and sliding velocity are 100 Hz, 200 N and 4.52 m/s, respectively. To evaluate the capability of the test rig, tests are carried out and the impact load is measured. Results show that the test rig has the good repeatability under the same test conditions and the repeatable error is less than 7%. Furthermore, non-destructive examination results by the mass loss method, two-dimensional profilometry and the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) show that the test rig can meet the demands for the impact-sliding wear.展开更多

The impact energy of a striker was applied on the fixed aluminum foam having a thickness of 25 mm while increasing its impact by 2 J at each strike from 6 J to 16 J. The results show that the impact energies from 6 J to 12 J could not penetrate aluminum foam. However, the aluminum foam applied with the impact energy of 12 J incurred severe damages on its lower part. Finally, the aluminum foam applied with the impact energy of 14 J was penetrated. The striker having the impact energy of 6 J could penetrate aluminum foam around 10 mm. At this moment, aluminum foam could absorb the impact energy of around 9 J. When the impact energy of 14 J was applied on the aluminum foam, the aluminum foam was penetrated and it absorbed the impact energy of around 17.2 J. It is possible to create the safer structure against impact using the results of this work. The simulation results for the verification of the experimental results imply that the results for all the experiments in this work are reliable. It is possible to predict the structural safety of the aluminum foam for an impact if the impact behavior of aluminum foam performed in this work is utilized.展开更多
