To achieve this, the research follows three related steps: (1) to carry out a review of the literature on reputational risk in the banking sector aimed to identify the relationships between causes, effects, stakeholders, and key qualitative-quantitative variables involved during the reputational crisis of a bank; (2) to propose a conceptual framework for management of reputational risk (and reputational crisis) in banking; (3) to test this framework with the results of an empirical analysis, carried out through the observation of key variables of some reputational crisis of intemational banks. The main results show that: (1) the banks are not yet prepared to accurately manage a reputational crisis or to prevent them; (2) the reputational crisis is determined by several internal and external factors; (3) the conduct of the managers and the corporate communication are very important to overcome a reputational crisis. Finally, this research provides indications that will help banks to better manage their corporate reputation and prevent reputational crisis.展开更多

The value creation is the aim of economic initiatives, strategies, corporate policies, and all business activities, including banking. It depends, among other things, on size, legal form, and business model. Therefore, this paper wants to demonstrate and explain the differences about the value created in the Italian banking sector, where there is much diversity regarding size, legal form, and business model. This paper estimated and compared the value of Italian listed companies from 2010 to 2012 and found the result: Banks create more value if they are big and operate in investment banking. Furthermore, it proved that legal form hasn't influenced performance and value of banks.展开更多

Open ended interviews were used to collect primary data from eight interviews in six commercial banks that serve SMEs and which have been in operation for more than five years. Secondary data was obtained from different documents like World Bank reports, brochures and websites of visited banks to mention the few. Findings show that sectors which are perceived as too risky by banks, poor documentation by borrowers which make banks unable to assess their creditworthiness, lack of understanding by SMEs themselves as to why they are doing businesses they do, lack or very limited knowledge on financial management by SMEs, lack of awareness of different products offered by different banks, stagnant businesses as well as lack of proper securitiries to cover their loans are reasons behind banks reluctant to provide loans to SMEs. Findings clearly show that it is still difficult for new SMEs to access finance from banks in Tanzania. It is critical for existing SMEs to put their houses in order to the level that is acceptable by banks if they need to approach banks for loans. Banks in Tanzania need to review their policies on the maximum amount of loans to SMEs to reflect the market demands. At the moment, new SMEs should not have much hope of getting finance assistance from most banks. Further, training institutions should continue educating SMEs on relevant aspect that are important to lenders and lastly, the government should consider providing guarantee to SMEs sectors that are perceived as too risky by banks just like the ongoing initiatives in the agriculture sector.展开更多
