Polymetallic iron ore sulphate deposits of marine volcanic rock have been developed in the Fangniugou area,Jilin Province,China, but the division of volcanic ore-bearing strata has not been specifically elucidated and there is disagreement about the division. The sampling and SHRIMP U-Pb zircon dating of volcanic rock for Daheishan in the Fangniugou area and the northeast slope of the Duanjiadian were described. The volcanic rock formation period and recorded the volcanic events in the Daheishan mountains were systematically researched. Two samples of high-precision U-Pb zircon dating were used to represent the volcanic rock fomation period of the Late Silurian. The measured data reflect that multiple volcanic activities occurred during the Middle Silurian,Early Silurian,Middle Ordovician and Silurian, and Late Ordovician, probably matching volcanic events in the Songnan Basin identified from zircon dating. At the same time,it is confirmed that a controversial "conglomerate of Daheishan" did in fact develop in the Late Silurian, and those sections of both the Dazigou and Xinlitun-Taoshan with graptolite had been reversed. 展开更多

Small granitic intrusions occur in the progressive metamorphic belts of the Chinese Ahai orogen. SHRIMP U-Pb analyses were performed on zircons separated from a tonalite intrusion and yielded a concordant age of 409.6±3.7 Ma ( MSWD = 0.93 ), restricting the emplacement and crystallization of the tonalite intru- sion to the Early Devonian. Combined with the existing geological data of the contemporary large granitic plutons in the Chinese Altai orogen, the tonalite is considered to be formed together with other granitic rocks in a continental arc setting. The tonalite intrusion has consistent foliation with its country rocks, indicating the strain resuiting in the regional deformation should be very strong during or after the early Devonian. 展开更多

A table tuff interlayer at the bottom of Chang-7 Member of Yanchang Formation, the Ordos Basin, may serve as an indicator for stratigraphic division and correlation. In this study, zircon SHRIMP U-Pb dating was performed on the tuff at the bottom of Chang-7 Member using samples from wells Luo-36 and Zhuang-211 in the southwest of the basin, which yielded weighted average 206Pb/238U ages of 241.3±2.4 and 239.7±1.7 Ma,respectively. The cathodoluminescence images and the U/Th element ratio of tuff indicate that the zircons are magmatogenic and their ages represent that of the sedimentation age of the tuff at the bottom of Chang-7,which is 239.7–241.3 Ma in age. This finding confirms presence of the Middle Triassic strata at the bottom of Yanchang Formation.Taking previous findings into account,we suggest restricing the Late Triassic Yanchang Formation sensu stricto to the interval from Chang-7 to Chang-1 and assigning the interval from Chang-10 to Chang-8 as the Tongchuan Formation. The tuff at the bottom of the Chang-7 Member of Yanchang Formation represents the sedimentary response to the Qinling orogenic event in the early Indosinian. This tectonic event resulted in major changes in paleogeomorphology and the sedimentary environment of the lake basin during deposition of the Yanchang Formation.During this period, extremely favourable conditions were present for subsequent hydrocarbon generation and pooling of lake basin. 展开更多

Zircon SHRIMP dating of granites from Dulan, east segment of North Qaidam UHP belt shows that they are 406.6±3.5 Ma for Yematan-E,407.3±4.3 and 397±6 Ma for Balijiehatan-W,404.5±4.0 and 397.0±3.7 Ma for Shuiwenzhan-N,380.5±5.0 Ma for Shuiwenzhan-S,382.5±3.6 and 372.5±2.8 Ma for Chachagongma. These granites from Dulan represent the products of the third and fourth periods of Paleozoic magmatism in North Qaidam.Geochemically, the granitoids with metalumious to weak peratuminous are quartz diorite, granodiorite, and granite in composition and mainly belong to calc-alkaline series,a few samples to calc or alkali-calc series. The third period of granites is a rock association of granodiorite+granite, with initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios from 0.7082 to 0.7110 and T2DM model ages from 1.41–1.90 Ga;and the fourth period of granites is a rock association of quartz diorite+granodiorite+granite, with initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios from 0.7072 to 0.7091 and T2DM model ages from 1.07–1.38 Ga.Therefore, the third period of granites has higher initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios and T2DM model ages.On the contrary, the fourth period of granites has Nd(t)values from 0.6 to-3.0,higher than that of the third granite with Nd(t)values-3.2 to-9.3.Thus,the data comparison indicates that the third granites may derive from Paleo-proterzoic continental crust with mantle material whereas the fourth granites may derive from the Meso-proterzoic basalt crust with continental material.Combined with regional geology,we thought that the third granites were formed relative to plate exhumation and the fourth granites to delamination of the lithospheric mantle. 展开更多

The Daqing Mountains area comprises a typical occurrence of the Khondalite Belt in the Western Block of the North China Craton (NCC). In this area, both early and late Paleoproterozoic metasedimentary rocks have been identified in what was originally called the Upper Wula Mountains "Subgroup". Six metasedimentary rock samples yielded SHRIMP U-Pb zircon ages of 2.56-2.04 Ga for detrital and 1.96-1.83 Ga for metamorphic zircons. Based on these data and previously published results, the following conclusions can be drawn: 1) The source region for the late Paleoproterozoic detrital sedimentary rocks is mainly 2.55 2.4 and 2.2 2.04 Ga in age, consistent with the early Precambrian geological history identified widely in the basement of the NCC. 2) The majority of sedimentary rocks of the khondalite series were deposited between 2.04 and 1.95 Ga, and then in a protracted period (1.96 and 1.83 Ga) underwent a complex history of amphibolite to granulite-facies metamorphism. 展开更多

The Baoshan Block is tectonically located in the middle segment of the Sibumasu plate. Granitic magmatism within the Baoshan Block has been considered weakly active due mainly to very limited exposures during the Himalaya orogenic episode. The geochronological study on the buried Shuangmaidi granite has confirmed the existence of the Cenozoic granitoids in the Baoshan Block. The present study indicates that: (1) It is medium- to coarse-grained two mica phyric granite, characterized by high SiO2 (73.55%-77.16%) and low CaO (0.34%-1.38%) contents, with a total alkalis (K2O+Na2O) of 5.22%-8.03%, K2O/Na2O ratios of 0.24-1.79, and total rare earth elements (ZREE) of the granite between 85 and 125 ppb. All samples are enriched in light REE and exhibit medium negative Eu anomalies; and they show pronounced negative anomalies in Ba, Sr, Ti, and Nb but significant positive anomalies in K, Rb, U, Th, and Pb on mantle-normalized trace element patterns, indicating typi-cally peraluminous to strongly peraluminous S-type granite. (2) The zircon SHRIMP U-Pb ages of the granite are 36.27±0.48 Ma for the samples from ZK7-1 and 35.78±0.49 Ma for those from ZK0-1, respectively. The similar zircon ages from these two drill cores may suggest that the granite samples come from the same buried pluton. (3) 206pb/204pb values of the granite vary from 20.115 to 25.359, 207pb/204pb from 15.776 to 16.160, and 208pb/204pb from 39.236 to 41.285, showing the characteristics of radio- active lead anomaly of the upper crust. The (87Sr/86Sr)i values calculated on the average age of the two-mica orthoclase granite (36 Ma) range from 0.72524 to 0.77503 and eNd(t) values vary from -10.9 to -11.7. These data, along with the depleted-mantle Nd modal ages of 1.73-1.80 Ga, imply that the granites might have formed from partial melting of the Precambrian crystal basements. (4) On the Hf-Rb-Ta diagram, almost all the samples fall within the field of post-collision tectonic setting. The CaO/Na2O and A1203/TiO2 ratios suggest that the granitic magma may have formed from partial melting of clay-rich crustal materials with a pos- sible melting temperature of about 900℃ and a possible crystallization temperature of 775-795~C. (5) During the post-collision of the Himalaya orogen, with the southeastward extrusion of the Indochina continent resulting from the continuous northward indentation of the India continent into the Asia, the Gaoligong Fault, as the western boundary of the Indochina continent, moved in the dextral strike-slip on a large scale to trigger partial melting of the thickened crust, and the peraluminous granitic magma from which the Shuangmaidi two-mica orthoclase granite derived was formed. 展开更多

The main rock types of the Boluonuo and Daguangding plutons are diorite, quartz diorite, tonalite, granodiorite, and subordi- nate plagioclase-bearing hornblendite and hornblende gabbro. Zircon SHRIMP U-Pb dating for a quartz diorite of the Boluo- nuo pluton suggests that the pluton was emplaced at about 296 ± 4 Ma. Plagioclase-bearing hornblendites show typical cumu- lative textures, which, in combination with their convex-upward REE patterns and the large variation of compatible elements such as Co, V and Sc, suggests that these hornblendites formed through accumulation of hornblende during magma evolution. Microgranular mafic enclaves (MMEs) are common in the Boluonuo and Daguangding intermediate to felsic plutons. Many plagioclase grains show compositional and textural disequilibrium, with calcium-rich cores (An46-50) mantled abruptly by sodium-rich plagioclase (An26-33). Whole-rock samples of the plutons are characterized by quite negative εNd(t) values (-16.5 to -11.8) and εNt(t) values (-22.5 to -16.8), and the εNd(t) values are negatively correlated with silica contents. All these fea- tures suggest that the intermediate to felsic plutons formed through magma mixing of enriched mantle-derived, evolved basal- tic magma with granitic, crustal melts, followed by fractional crystallization of mainly hornblende and small amounts of py- roxene, apatite and zircon. The hornblende-dominated fractionation contributed significantly to the adakite-like features of the intermediate to felsic plutons, like the high Sr and Sr/Y ratios and low Yb abundance. In addition, the Boluonuo and Daguang- ding plutons are highly enriched in LILEs (e.g., Ba and Sr), but depleted in HFSEs (e.g., Nb, Zr and Ti), which is typical of arc magmas. Therefore, the formation of Boluonuo and Daguangding plutons was probably related to the subduction of the Paleo-Asian oceanic slab beneath the North China Craton in the Paleozoic. 展开更多

The Lower Cambrian on the Yangtze Platform in South China (internationally equivalent to the Nerreneuvian and 2nd series of the Cambrian) is valuable for understanding the early evolution of life, the global biogeochemical circles, and the major changes of the ocean. In particular, a precise radiometric calibration of the Lower Cambrian of this region is a critical realm in its multidisciplinary studies. A SHRIMP U-Pb geochronology study of the K-bentonite in the topmost Laobao Formation at the Pingyin section, Guizhou, South China yielded an age of 536±5 Ma (MSWD -- 0.75), suggesting that the K-bentonite here can be correlated with the intensely studied K-bentonite within the middle Zhongyicun Member (Bed 5) of the Zhujiaqing For- mation at the Meishucun section in Yunnan. Such a regional correlation result reveals that the Bed 5 K-bentonite also extends into deeper-water environments rather than being deposited merely in the shallow platform interior of the Yangtze Platform. The age of the K-bentonite at the Pingyin section also implies that its overlying polymetallic Ni-Mo layer should be younger than 536e5 Ma. Hence the previous placement of the Precambrian/Cambrian boundary at this layer is inappropriate. Combined with the results of stratigraphic correlations, it is suggested that the K-bentonites in the middle Zhongyicun Member of the Zhujiaqing Formation (or the equivalents) and the base of the Shiyantou Formation (or its equivalents), together with the polymetallic Ni-Mo layer, serve as three important marker beds. Their self-consistent radiometric ages have established an im- proved geochronologic framework for the Lower Cambrian in South China. 展开更多

The Chengjiang Formation is the earliest continental clastic deposit after the Jinning Orogeny in central Yunnan Province, and therefore its accurate depositional age is significant for understanding the formation and evolution of the Neoproterozoic rift basins in southern China. However, hampered by accuracy of the dating technique, the existing age data for the Chengjiang Formation are not very reliable.A large number of magmatic zircons were obtained from the tuff interbed in the lower part of the Chengjiang Formation in Jinyang area and the bottom part of the Chengjiang Formation in Dongchuan area, central Yunnan Province, and high-precision SHRIMP U-Pb dating was carried out on these zircons. The results show that the weighted mean 206 Pb/238 U ages are 797.8±8.2 and 803.1±8.7 Ma respectively. In combination with related geological evidence,it has been demonstrated that the bottom boundary age of the Chengjiang Formation should be 800±5 Ma,whereas the top boundary age could be ca 725 Ma.By synthetically analyzing the latest age data for the relevant strata,it has been confirmed that the Chengjiang Formation should be correlated with the Suxiong Formation and the Kaijianqiao Formation in western Sichuan Province, the Liantuo Formation in the middle and lower Yangtze, the Hongchicun Formation and the Shangshu Formation in northern Zhejiang Province, the Puling Formation in southern Anhui Province, the Luokedong Formation and the Majianqiao Formation in northwestern Jiangxi Province, the Wuqiangxi Formation in northwestern Hunan Province, the Fanzhao Formation and the Qingshuijiang Formation in southeastern Guizhou Province, and the Sanmenjie Formation and the Gongdong Formation in northern Guangxi Province.Sedimentary cycle analysis shows that the sedimentary filling sequence of the Neoproterozoic rift basins in southern China can be divided into four cycles.Among them,Cycle II began at ca.800 Ma,accompanied by intensive tectonic-thermal events. The zircon U-Pb ages from the bottom of the Chengjiang Formation reported in this paper indicate that the Neoproterozoic Kangdian rift subbasin probably started to develop at ca.800 Ma and therefore missed Cycle I of the Neoproterozoic sedimentary filling sequence in southern China. 展开更多

The NNE-trending ductile shear zones in Yiwulü Mountain area were formed in relation to two successive extensional events. The Yiwulü High Temperature Extensional Ductile Shear Zone and the Waziyu Low Temperature Extensional Ductile Shear Zone were related to ductile deformation at higher temperatures and brittle-ductile deformation at lower temperatures, respectively. Both deformations were accompanied by large scale volcanic eruptions and magmatic intrusions.Based on structural analysis of macroscopic and microscopic deformations, and quartz lattice preferred orientations,we show that the early Yiwulü High Temperature Extensional Ductile Shear Zone was resulted from a NE-SW extension at amphibolite facies in the middle crust, whereas the Waziyu Low Temperature Extensional Ductile Shear Zone was due mainly to a NWW-SEE extension at greenschist facies in the upper crust. The SHRIMP zircon age of a syn-tectonic granitic dike emplaced at the late stage of high temperature extension is 155±2 Ma,indicating that the early extensional event took place in the Middle-Late Jurassic.40Ar-39Ar age of muscovite from tectonic schists in the low temperature extensional ductile shear zone is 131.6±1.0 Ma,suggesting that the late extension occurred in the Early Cretaceous.Subsequent overall uplifting succeeded the late extension. The new discovery of the Middle-Late Jurassic NNE-trending extensional ductile shear zone provides evidence constraining the switch of tectonic regimes and Middle Jurassic thinning of lithosphere in the eastern North China Craton. 展开更多
