A potexperiment was conducted with four treatments of CK, Si, Mn and Si+Mn to further study the effect ofcombined application of Si and Mn on rice growth on red earths. Water-soluble Si, Fe and Mn were measured, and electron probe was used to study Si, Mn, Fe and Ca in root cross sections. Combined application of Si andMn could increase water-soluble Si and Mn but reduce water-soluble Fe, thus being favorable for correctingFe toxicity. Electron probe study showed obvious differences of Si, Fe, Mn and Ca in rice roots betweenCK and the other three treatments. The combined application of Si and Mn could reduce leaf oranging andimprove rice growth. The Si+Mn treatment had a higher plant height, lower number of oranging leaves anda 25.0% higher rice yield than CK and showed a better effect on rice growth than the treatment of sole Si orMn.展开更多

Grey disorder leaves produced low quality lamina, which was low in N, nicotine, reducedsugar and K contents. In this study’ soil available Mn and leaf Mn contents were in a relatively low level andshould not be an important factor in the occurrence of grey disorder in fine-cured tobacco.展开更多

Linear regression analysis of the results highlighted the close relationships between doses of the medicines and mortalities of the organisms, thus providing a capability to predict toxicity effects from the dose. Toxic effects of the medicines on the ciliates were described in the present paper, and the median lethal concentrations (LC 50 values) were given. Results of measurements indicated that 2 h-LC 50 and 12 h-LC 50 values of formalin on P. coronatum were 59.00×10 -6 and 43.57×10 -6, while those of Lugol’s solutions were 90.13 and 67.84×10 -6 respectively. The tolerance of P. coronatum to formalin is apparently lower than that to Lugol’s iodine solution and potassium permanganate is a suitable medicine to kill ciliates in short time.展开更多

Mitochondrial-targeting silica-coated manganese oxide nanoparticles(Mn O@Si O2-PPh3+ NPs) were successfully synthesized to explore the mitochondrial cytotoxicity of nanoparticles. The mitochondrial targeting property was confirmed by a laser scanning confocal microscopy experiment. Even after incubation for only 4 h, the cytotoxicity of Mn O@Si O2-PPh3+ NPs against cancer cells was obvious; the ATP content was significantly decreased to 40%; and the mitochondrial membrane potential was depleted. All of these results indicated the collapse of mitochondrial function and the start of a cell apoptosis pathway. Our findings suggest that mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis could be strengthened by targeting to the subcellular compartment.展开更多
