The treatments were the four levels of leucaena meal replacement for soybean meal in concentrates at 0%, 25%, 50% and 75% of crude protein. The results showed that roughage intake (% BW and g/kgBW^0.75) increased linearly (P 〈 0.01) with increasing levels of leucaena meal while total feed intake was not significantly different among dietary treatments. Similarly, dry matter, organic matter, neutral detergent fiber digestibility and ruminal ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) were not significantly different among dietary treatments. However, crude protein digestibility, ruminal pH (6 hr after feeding), nitrogen (N) intake, N absorption, N retention and total volatile fatty acids increased quadratically (P 〈 0.01) with the increasing levels of leucaena meals. It could be concluded that leucaena meal could replace up to 50% of soybean meal in the diet without any negative effect on feed intake, nutrient digestibility and rumen fermentation of meat goats.展开更多

Crude extracts were obtained through cold or hot extraction methods on dried powdered seeds, seed teguments, leaves or empty pods. They were thereafter purified using techniques based on physicochemical properties of active substances. Assays were carried out on seedling growth of Monocotyledons and Dicotyledons representatives. Results showed that all extracts exerted significant dose dependent inhibition on epicotyl and hypocotyl growth. However, some extracts exhibited a slight stimulation effect at low doses. Moreover, A. arenicola crude extract (E23) slightly inhibited axillary bud growth, while A. tulearensis crude extract (ET1) showed a stimulation effect. According to preliminary phytochemical screening results, these effects might be due to saponins or alkaloids.展开更多

Inoculation resulted in nodule number increases of 28.6, 29.02 and 23.9 times in sterilized soiland 3.4, 3.6 and 3.27 times in non-sterilized soil for A. parocera A. lebbeck and L. leucocephala seedlingsrespectively. Total dry mass increased by 127.6%, 66.7% and 60.7% in sterilized soil and 100%, 95.5%and 52.65% in non-sterilized soil for these three legume trees, respectively, after a period of two months.Significalltly high inoculation responses of root length, root diameter, collar diameter, shoot length, and drymass of root, shoot, leaves and nodules were also observed in both sterilized and non-sterilized soil media ascompared to respective control treatments. The response to inoculation was strong in sterilized and modestin non-sterilized soils. The significantly higher response to Rhizobium inoculation over control in all thespecies tested suggested that application of Rhizobium greatly enhanced plant growth, nodulation, biomassproduction and nitrogen-fixing activity of the nodules.展开更多

Benth. at Pundibari, West Bengal, India. The best time of pod collection was on 19 February as the germination rate of the seeds collected on this date was 92.5% without requiring any pre-sowing treatments. This clearly indicated that the seeds collected on 19 February were non-dormant, viable and physiologically mature. Significantly better seedling growth was also obtained when the seeds were sown on 19 February which was extracted from pods of length 10-20 cm. Application of thio-urea as a pre-treatment did not significantly enhanced seed germination rate, but its application in lower concentration (100 μL·L-1) resulted in better seedling growth and development.展开更多
