Effects of bending on heat transfer performance of axial micro-grooved heat pipe 被引量:5

Heat pipe is always bent in the typical application of electronic heat dissipation at high heat flux,which greatly affects its heat transfer performance. The capillary limit of heat transport in the bent micro-grooved heat pipes was analyzed in the vapor pressure drop,the liquid pressure drop and the interaction of the vapor with wick fluid. The bent heat pipes were fabricated and tested from the bending angle,the bending position and the bending radius. The results show that temperature difference and thermal resistance increase while the heat transfer capacity of the heat pipe decreases,with the increase of the bending angles and the bending position closer to the vapor section. However,the effects of bending radius can be ignored. The result agrees well with the predicted equations. 展开更多

The tensile curves of deformed and annealed aluminum show that yield strength of deformed aluminum increases by 100%-300% and its elongation decreases by about 20%. After low temperature annealing, strength of annealed aluminum increases by 20% and elongation decreases by over 50%, the recovery of dislocations may be the main cause of annealing strengthening. In addition, there is an abrupt stress drop in the tensile curves of annealed aluminum and the formation of shear band is responsible for it. 展开更多

The Jianpudong No. 4 tunnel is a shallow tunnel, which belongs to Shaoshan County scenic highway in Hunan province, China and whose surrounding rock is weak. According to its characteristics, the field monitoring tests and numerical analysis were done. The mechanical characteristics of shallow tunnels under weak surrounding rock and the stress-strain rule of surrounding rock and support were analyzed. The numerical analysis results show that the settlement caused by upper bench excavating accounts for 44% of the total settlement, and the settlement caused by tunnel upper bench supporting accounts for 56% of the total settlement. The maximum axial force of shotcrete lining is 177.2 k N, which locates in hance under the secondary lining. The maximum moment of shotcrete lining is 5.08 k N·m, which locates in the arch foot. The stress curve of steel arch has three obvious stages during the tunnel construction. The maximum axial force of steel arch is 297.4 k N, which locates in tunnel vault. The axial forces of steel arch are respectively 23.5 k N and-21.8 k N, which is influenced by eccentric compression of shallow tunnel and locates in hance. The results show that there is larger earth pressure in tunnel vault which is most unfavorable position of steel arch. Therefore, the advance support should be strengthened in tunnel vault during construction process. 展开更多

Layered structures with upper porous and lower fractured media are widely distributed in the world. An experimen- tal investigation on rainfall infiltration and solute transport in such layered structures can provide the necessary foundation for effectively preventing and forecasting water bursting in mines, controlling contamination of mine water, and accomplishing ecological restoration of mining areas. A typical physical model of the layered structures with porous and fractured media was created in this study. Then rainfall infiltration experiments were conducted after salt solution was sprayed on the surface of the layered structure. The volumetric water content and concentration of chlorine ions at different specified positions along the profile of the experiment system were measured in real-time. The experimental results showed that the lower fractured media, with a considerably higher permeability than that of the upper porous media, had significant effects on preventing water infil- tration. Moreover, although the porous media were homogeneous statistically in the whole domain, spatial variations in the features of effluent concentrations with regards to time, or so called breakthrough curves, at various sampling points located at the horizontal plane in the porous media near the porous-fractured interface were observed, indicating the diversity of solute transport at small scales. Furthermore, the breakthrough curves of the outflow at the bottom, located beneath the underlying fractured rock, were able to capture and integrate features of the breakthrough curves of both the upper porous and fractured media, which exhibited multiple peaks, while the peak values were reduced one by one with time. 展开更多

Cost Implications of Biodegradation of Khaya Grandifoliola (Dry Land Mahogany) by Aspergillus in Residential Buildings

Degradation of timbers in building due to microorganisms was reported to cause enormous economic loses and species of Aspergillus are among the major cause of degradation of timbers in Nigeria. This research aims at evaluating the cost of implications of biodegradations of Khaya grandifoliola by Aspergiilus spp in residential buildings empirically. Decayed Khaya grandifoliola samples were collected on residential buildings to extract, cultivate and identify the Aspergillus spp present. The cultivation went through serial dilutions and inoculations on sabouraud dextrose agar in petri dishes before incubation for 72 hours at 30 ~C. The species were identified through visual and microscopic observations. Percentage rate of degradation was determined under laboratory conditions by inoculating known weights of Khaya grandifoliola with the Aspergillus and incubating in a minimal medium for 24 weeks at 30 ~C. Weight loses and spore counts were recorded at four weeks intervals. A pattern of the degradation was forecasted. Accumulative weight loss of 16% for this period was obtained. Methods and costs of repair and replacement of decayed portions were evaluated. Residential Buildings constructed of Khaya grandifoliola experienced low cost of maintenance in this region but may not be in wetter regions where the conditions could be more favorable. 展开更多

City metro tunnels are usually constructed as twin-parallel tunnels and their adjacent construction may lead to surface deformation,affecting the surface environment and the safety of the tunnels.Due to its strong dispersion,sandy cobble strata can be easily disturbed by shield tunneling.Based on the project of the Chengdu Metro Line 1,field and model tests were carried out to study the surface settlement caused by shield tunneling in sandy cobble strata by measuring surface settlement curves,ground loss ratios and construction influence zones.The discrete element method(DEM) was used to study the factors affecting the formation of ground arches in sandy cobble strata at the microscopic level.Results show that the shape of the surface settlement curve in sandy cobble strata is different from that in soft soil.The buried depth and clear spacing of the two tunnels had a significant impact on the formation of ground arches. 展开更多

The control points of the degree-reduced C-Brzier surfaces can be explicitly obtained by using a matrix operation that is based on the transfer matrix of the C-Brzier basis. With prescribed boundary constraints, this method can be applied to piecewise continuous patches or to a single patch with the combination of surface subdivision. The resulting piecewise approximating patches are globally G1 continuous. Finally, numerical examples are presented to show the effectiveness of the method. 展开更多

Aims Atmospheric nitrogen(N)deposition influences tree hydraulic architecture and thus the growth and survival;but the responses of leaf hydraulic traits remain uncertain,and may vary with species or plant functional types.Methods We used the 16-year N addition experiment(10 g N m−2 year−1)on Fraxinus mandshurica(ash,broadleaf angiosperm)and Larix gmelinii(larch,conifer gymnosperm)plantations in northeastern China and examined the effect of N addition on their leaf hydraulics.We measured the leaf pressure–volume traits by the bench drying method and quantified the maximum leaf hydraulic conductance(K_(leaf_max))and resistance to embolism(P50leaf)by the timed rehydration method.Important Findings Larch had higher K_(leaf_max)and stronger drought tolerance(i.e.,lower relative water content at turgor loss point(RWC_(tlp))and modulus of elasticity(ε),and more negative P50leaf)than ash.N addition increased the leaf osmotic potential at turgor loss(πtlp)and full turgor(π0),and leaf capacitance(Cleaf_mass)for ash but not for larch,indicating that ash is more sensitive to N addition.N addition consistently increased K_(leaf_max)and P50leaf values for both species.πtlp andπ0 were positively while Cleaf_mass was negatively correlated with leaf density(LD)for ash.K_(leaf_max)was positively but P50leaf was negatively related with LD for larch.There were negative relationships between K_(leaf_max)and P50leaf for both species.Overall,our findings suggest that long-term N addition decreases the leaf drought tolerance for these two important tree species,which improve the understanding of the tree hydraulic performance under N deposition. 展开更多
