Based on the existing locality preserving projections and graph embedding framework, a novel discriminant-cascading dimensionality reduction method is proposed, which is named discriminant-cascading locality preserving projections (DCLPP). The proposed method specifically utilizes supervised embedding graphs and it keeps the original space for the inner products of samples to maintain enough information for speech emotion recognition. Then, the kernel DCLPP (KDCLPP) is also proposed to extend the mapping form. Validated by the experiments on the corpus of EMO-DB and eNTERFACE'05, the proposed method can clearly outperform the existing common dimensionality reduction methods, such as principal component analysis (PCA), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), locality preserving projections (LPP), local discriminant embedding (LDE), graph-based Fisher analysis (GbFA) and so on, with different categories of classifiers.展开更多

However, the installation of the suction muffler affects the operation of the compressor owing to gas pressure drop, which causes volumetric and energetic efficiency loss due to the gas specific volume augmentation. Therefore, there is a compromise between sound attenuation and pressure drop increase, which has to be taken into account by compressor designers. In this work, it presents a numerical solution to the flow through a suction muffler in order to analyze the pressure field and point out the main contributions to the overall pressure drop of the flow. A commercial CFD (computational fluid dynamics) code was used to perform the numerical simulations and the results were validated by using experimental data. After analyzing the pressure field, the geometry of the muffler was modified intending to decrease the flow pressure drop. The geometric modification produced a 28% reduction on the overall pressure drop, without influencing the sound attenuation.展开更多

Compressed air was passed through a circular convergent nozzle preceded by a straight tube of same diameter. In order to reduce the jet screech a spherical reflector was used and placed at the nozzle exit. The placement of the spherical reflector at the nozzle exit controlled the location of the image source as well as minimized the sound pressure at the nozzle exit. The weak sound pressure did not excite the unstable disturbance at the exit. Thus the loop of the feedback mechanism could not be accomplished and the jet screech was eliminated. The technique of screech reduction with a flat plate was also examined and compared with the present method. A good and effective performance in canceling the screech component by the new method was found by the investigation. Experimental results indicate that the new system suppresses not only the screech tones but also the broadband noise components and reduces the overall noise of the jet flow. The spherical reflector was found very effective in reducing overall sound pressure level in the upstream region of the nozzle compared to a flat plate. The proposed spherical reflector can, accordingly, protect the upstream noise propagation.展开更多
