By appraising the ecological damage value of the environmental risk of marine chemical spills, we can facilitate decision-making for the development of a coastal zone and establishment of economic policy on coastal zone management. In this study, the ecological effect of the environmental risk of a chemical spill in the Haicang chemical industrial park in Xiamen was identified, after which its impact was forecasted and its ecological damage value was assessed. The information generated in this study will be useful in future studies evaluating marine ecological compensation based on environmental risk analysis.展开更多

While correct labelling gives the possibility to general public to recognise the risks arising from handling and use of dangerous chemicals, safety data sheets are provided for professionals in order to allow safe handling and storage of dangerous chemicals in work places. Information contained in safety data sheets are also designed to suggest safety measures to be taken for the protection of workers as well as precaution measures and adequate actions to be taken in the case of accident. This project has critically revised the information contained in a list of safety data sheets of active ingredients provided for plant protection products, in order to assess the quality and the consistency of the data contained. Reported data have been then compared to published data. Considerable deficiencies/mistakes/inconsistencies have been found in the data reported along the safety data sheets of the examined substances, showing an urgent need of improving the enforcement related to a systematic recognition in this field as well as training of people involved in compilation of safety data sheets by producer side.展开更多

Heavy oil has escaped from grounded oil carrier and drifted ashore. Drifted heavy oil contains hazardous chemical such as benzo (a) pyrene and other poly aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These hazardous chemicals have worse affected on sea plants and animals. Thus, it is important to develop effective elimination of hazardous chemicals or drifted petroleum from sea shore. In this study, we have investigated the decomposition of benzo (a) pyrene on artificial sea water using UV/photocatalytic oxidation process. From this study, it was found that about 90% of benzo (a) pyrene on artificial seawater was decomposed by UV/photocatalytic oxidation process. And there were no by-product from decomposition of benzo (a) pyrene. It was supposed that benzo (a) pyrene was completely decomposed using UV/photocatalytic oxidation process.展开更多

In particular, considering a conventional urban wastewater treatment plant, two case studies have been considered in this paper: the phase of disinfection with Peracetic Acid (PAA), used as reactant and the sludge anaerobic digestion, generating biogas. The aim of the experience is to find out some management suggestions that could make safer these sections of a WWTP.展开更多

Of particular concern here are chemicals that can disturb an organism's endocrine system. Referring to the precautionary principle, the objective of the research project start2 is to develop management strategies that help reduce possible risks for httmans and the environment of endocrine active agrochemicals. As an empirical basis we combined qualitative and quantitative methods and initiated two expert dialogues. Our findings underpin the well known fact that the use of agrochemicals is complex and dependent on more than the individual attitudes of farmers. Agricultural plant protection management is the collective product of a complex agricultural system, which encompasses treatment, marketing, industry and agricultural consultation as well as agricultural teaching institutions and relevant scientific disciplines. Successful management strategies for risk reduction in the context of hormonally active agrochemicals thus need to involve all actors within this system. The paper proposes a strategy that promotes participation by enabling learning processes among these actors.展开更多
