The modern travelling wave based fault location principles for transmission lines are analyzed.In order to apply the travelling wave principles to HVDC transmission lines,the special technical problems are studied.Bas...The modern travelling wave based fault location principles for transmission lines are analyzed.In order to apply the travelling wave principles to HVDC transmission lines,the special technical problems are studied.Based on this,a fault locating system for HVDC transmission lines is developed.The system can support modern double ended and single ended travelling wave princi- ples simultaneously,and it is composed of three different parts:travelling wave data acquisition and processing system,communication network and PC based master station.In the system,the fault generated transients are induced from the ground leads of the over-voltage suppression capacitors of an HVDC line through specially developed travelling wave couplers.The system was applied to 500 kV Gezhouba-Nanqiao(Shanghai)HVDC transmission line in China.Some field operation experiences are summarized,showing that the system has very high reliability and accuracy,and the maximum location error is about 3 km(not more than 0.3%of the total line length). Obviously,the application of the system is successful,and the fault location problem has finally been solved completely since the line operation.展开更多

The casual network model for a satellite power system is presented. Considerations for failure probability of each component of the power system, the cost of applying each test, the influence of a precedent test result on the next test selection, and an optimal sequential testing algorithm for fault location is presented. This program is applied to locate the failure component of the power system of a satellite. The results show this program is very effective and it is very fast to generate an optimal diagnosis tree.展开更多

It often causes huge losses to the electric system. The Wuhan High Voltage Institute of the State Grid Corporation of China and Huazhong University of Science and Technology have been researching and developing lightning location systems (LLSs) since the late 1980s. In the mid-1990s, a lightning detection network was created in 29 provinces and cities in China. It is primarily applied to rapidly find lightning accidents, which greatly reduces power interruption. Also, it ensures high efficiency and safe operation of the electricity system. Remarkable benefit is achieved. China's LLS went through an "orientation positioning - time difference positioning - integrated positioning" development process. The positioning precision, detection efficiency, degree of automation, practicability and applied range are improved. Also, a lightning information system plan of the national network has been implemented, which services the whole society.展开更多
The purpose of this work is the study of a mathematical model to discretize cracks at continuous mechanical systems, applying all the available properties at computational algorithm using the methodology of state obse...The purpose of this work is the study of a mathematical model to discretize cracks at continuous mechanical systems, applying all the available properties at computational algorithm using the methodology of state observers to detect, localize and evaluate the crack conditions, seeking the model limitations through an experiment developed at the mechanical department of UNESP, llha Solteira, S^o Paulo-Brazil. Three different notch sizes were placed, one by one, at the top surface of a cantilever beam (to be considered as a crack at the mechanical system) and harmonic forces were applied at the tip of the beam with three different frequencies, for each notch size, to obtain experimental data to run the diagnosis algorithm. From the results it was possible to infer that the observation system performance increases with the raising of the crack size, which can be explained by the model, that gets more accurate with bigger crack sizes, however, when the propagation of the crack is considered at the model, the diagnosis of the crack presence tends to be more difficult. It was also possible to conclude that the developed algorithm works properly for systems which excitation frequencies are higher than 20 Hz and different from the natural frequencies of the system, due to influence of dynamic response of the crack at the model.展开更多
The autonomous navigation of an electric vehicle requires the implementation of a number of sensors and actuators intended to inform it about his environment or his position and velocity and deliver necessary inputs. ...The autonomous navigation of an electric vehicle requires the implementation of a number of sensors and actuators intended to inform it about his environment or his position and velocity and deliver necessary inputs. That's why it is important to detect and locate sensor and actuator faults as soon as possible to enable the operator to run the vehicle in degraded mode or use the fault tolerant control system if it exists. The main purpose of this paper deals with sensors or actuators faults diagnosis of autonomous vehicle. A diagnosis method using a nonlinear model of the vehicle is developed. Nonlinear state space model of the autonomous electric vehicle is used with the method of nonlinear analytical redundancy to detect and to isolate faults occurred on sensors or actuators. Computer simulations are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the method.展开更多
