Practical features such as operating flexibility and capital cost have made the number of sub operations an important parameter of the problem. By treating the direct and indirect heat transfers separately, target freshwater and energy consumption as well as the operation split conditions are first obtained. Subsequently, a mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) model is established for the design of water network and the heat exchanger network (HEN). The proposed systematic approach is limited to a single contaminant. Example from literature is used to illustrate the applicability of the approach.展开更多

In the first stage, micro-entities concent...This paper presents a three-stage hypothesis on the development of creative industrial clusters, which includes stages of agglomeration, interfacing, and network development. In the first stage, micro-entities concentrate geographically in a creative industrial cluster in search of resources. The second stage reflects the need for building identity. Finally, the third stage is the outcome of multi-dimensional expansion. As a creative industrial cluster develops, its focus moves from geographic concentration to division of labor and the creation of novel systems. Using this three-stage framework, this paper conducts an empirical study on Beijing's 798 District ("798"). Our study finds that the "self-destruction "phenomenon (which appeared after 798 had reached the stage of network development in a low-level capacity) is essentially the product of a squeezing effect of commercial prosperity on art production. Our study further examines four models of art-commerce integration and explains the ways in which creative industrial clusters are different from conventional industrial clusters: a creative cluster is a platform of integration for culture, commerce, and technology. Its course of development is characterized by novelty, emergence of identity through interfacing, and network cooperation.展开更多
We study preconditioning techniques used in conjunction with the conjugate gradient method for solving multi-length-scale symmetric positive definite linear systems originating from the quantum Monte Carlo simulation ...We study preconditioning techniques used in conjunction with the conjugate gradient method for solving multi-length-scale symmetric positive definite linear systems originating from the quantum Monte Carlo simulation of electron interaction of correlated materials. Existing preconditioning techniques are not designed to be adaptive to varying numerical properties of the multi-length-scale systems. In this paper, we propose a hybrid incomplete Cholesky (HIC) preconditioner and demonstrate its adaptivity to the multi-length-scale systems. In addition, we propose an extension of the compressed sparse column with row access (CSCR) sparse matrix storage format to efficiently accommodate the data access pattem to compute the HIC preconditioner. We show that for moderately correlated materials, the HIC preconditioner achieves the optimal linear scaling of the simulation. The development of a linear-scaling preconditioner for strongly correlated materials remains an open topic.展开更多

PPIs are usually represented by a simple binary model, whereas pathways are rep...Integration of pathway and protein-protein interaction(PPI) data can provide more information that could lead to new biological insights. PPIs are usually represented by a simple binary model, whereas pathways are represented by more complicated models. We developed a series of rules for transforming protein interactions from pathway to binary model, and the protein interactions from seven pathway databases, including PID, Bio Carta, Reactome, Net Path, INOH, SPIKE and KEGG, were transformed based on these rules. These pathway-derived binary protein interactions were integrated with PPIs from other five PPI databases including HPRD, Int Act, Bio GRID, MINT and DIP, to develop integrated dataset(named Path PPI). More detailed interaction type and modification information on protein interactions can be preserved in Path PPI than other existing datasets. Comparison analysis results indicate that most of the interaction overlaps values(OAB) among these pathway databases were less than 5%, and these databases must be used conjunctively. With the rapid accumulation of high-throughput metagenomic sequencing data,it is possible to infer microbial species relations in a microbial community systematically.In recent years,some approaches have been proposed...With the rapid accumulation of high-throughput metagenomic sequencing data,it is possible to infer microbial species relations in a microbial community systematically.In recent years,some approaches have been proposed for identifying microbial interaction network.These methods often focus on one dataset without considering the advantage of data integration.In this study,we propose to use a similarity network fusion(SNF)method to infer microbial relations.The SNF efficiently integrates the similarities of species derived from different datasets by a cross-network diffusion process.We also introduce consensus k-nearest neighborhood(Ck-NN)method instead of k-NN in the original SNF(we call the approach CSNF).The final network represents the augmented species relationships with aggregated evidence from various datasets,taking advantage of complementarity in the data.We apply the method on genus profiles derived from three microbiome datasets and we find that CSNF can discover the modular structure of microbial interaction network which cannot be identified by analyzing a single dataset.展开更多
