Practical features such as operating flexibility and capital cost have made the number of sub operations an important parameter of the problem. By treating the direct and indirect heat transfers separately, target freshwater and energy consumption as well as the operation split conditions are first obtained. Subsequently, a mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) model is established for the design of water network and the heat exchanger network (HEN). The proposed systematic approach is limited to a single contaminant. Example from literature is used to illustrate the applicability of the approach.展开更多

Even though there arc various technologies available for purification of water harnessing solar energy fits the purpose for future problems. Distillation is one of many processes available for water purification, and solar energy is one of several forms of heat energy that can be used to energize this process. In this review a study is made to enhance the productivity of the solar stills by connecting solar still with latent heat storage and solar air heater in series and other factors like improving evaporation rate by maintaining Low depth, more exposure area, heat addition by solar collector and presence of latent heat storage material, which is a paraffin wax as a integral part of still. Latent heat storage is one of the most efficient ways of storing thermal energy. Unlike the sensible heat storage method, the latent heat storage method provides much higher storage density, with a smaller temperature difference between storing and releasing heat. Further augmentation of the yield by scraps, pebble, and sand are added.展开更多

Solar thermal collectors, particularly all-glass evacuated tubular collectors, have been studied and developed for 30 years, and solar thermal industry has developed rapidly for 15 years. There are various solar thermal systems, with an operation area of around 108 million m2 in 2007. These systems mainly provide domestic hot water, but some other applications are under extensive study and development as well.展开更多

In such systems, solar thermal energy can be used, on one hand, directly to charge the buffer storage and, on the other hand, as heat source for the evaporator oftbe HP (heat pump). In this work systems, in which solar heat is only used directly (parallel operation of solar and HP), systems using the collectors also as a heat source for the HP are analyzed and compared to conventional air HP systems. With a combined parallel solar thermal HP system, the system performance compared to a conventional HP system can be significantly increased. Unglazed selectively coated collectors as source for the HP have the advantage that the collector can be used as an air heat exchanger. If solar radiation is available and the collector is used as source for the HP, higher temperatures at the evaporator of the HP can be achieved than with a conventional air HP system.展开更多

The adverse impact of their investment sophistication on competitiveness may be compensated by the increased use. For example: Cooperation with heat pump allows to increase the accumulation capacity of the seasonal heat storage tank and causes the direct use of heating energy and accumulation of cooling energy produced by heat pump. In the final stage of the heating period, it can be used to remote cooling supplied buildings. Experimentation on mathematical model is possible to obtain valuable insights about the dynamics of the processes of charging and discharging in the seasonal storage tank and subsequently used in the design, implementation and operation.展开更多

It consists of the CATHENA (Canadian Algorithm for Thermo-Hydraulic Network Analysis), the control logics from C6SIM (CANDU 6 Analytical Simulator), and a communication protocol, PVM (parallel virtual machine). This is the first time that CATHENA has been successfully coupled directly with a program written in another language. The independence of CATHENA and the C6SIM controllers allows the development of both CATHENA and C6SIM controller to proceed independently.展开更多

As a result, a Moroccan mapping of solar water heating systems is presented in this work. This mapping concerns two technologies commonly used: the FPC (flat plate collectors) and the ETC (evacuated tubes ones). It is based on three criteria: firstly, the efficiency of the STC (solar thermal collectors); secondly, the economic aspect and at last, the reliability requirements. Based on these information, the multi-criteria outranking methodology PROMETHEE (preference ranking organization method for the enrichment evaluations) allows us to define an adequate solar heater technology linked with the climatic zoning of Morocco.展开更多
