Seismicity in the Jingpohu volcanic area was investigated based on the seismic data recorded by the mobile seismic network consisting of 14 stations equipped with 24-bit broad-band 3- component seismographs around Cra...Seismicity in the Jingpohu volcanic area was investigated based on the seismic data recorded by the mobile seismic network consisting of 14 stations equipped with 24-bit broad-band 3- component seismographs around Crater Forest, Results show that there appears certain seismicity in Jingpohu and its adjacent areas with a low activity level and most of the recorded earthquakes are the volcanic-tectonic ones, The results of location indicate a dominant focal depth of 10km - 30kin, most of the earthquakes are smaller than ML2,0, and are concentrated in the area of " Crater Forest" and on the Dunhua-Mishan fault which runs through the volcanic area. At station No. 2, which has better observation conditions, two types of events, likely associated to volcanism, were recorded; their waveform characteristics are somewhat similar to that of the long-period volcanic event and the volcanic tremor, but with different feature of frequencies.展开更多

Seismic catalogues, reporting information about spatial-temporal distribution of the main shocks, are nowadays available for many seismic areas in the world, very often major events mark the beginning of a series of earthquakes (aflershocks) whose frequency and energy are meanly decreasing in time down to the background level of activity. Azerbaijan is one of the most active segments of the Alpine-Himalayan seismic belt and marks the junction between the African-Arabian and Indian plate to the south, and Eurasian plate to the north. The cluster of earthquakes that struck near Varzeghan-Ahar was centered near the Gosha-Dagh fault, but preliminary data suggested that the fault was not responsible for the temblor. On the late afternoon of Saturday, August 11, 2012, the northwest of Iran was shaken by two of the strong earthquakes in Iranian history. First was hit by Mw (moment magnitude scale) = 6.4 Richter at local time 16:54 (12:23 GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)), and about 11 min later, an Mw = 6.3 struck 10 km to the west. The spatial-temporal clustering of micro earthquakes (aftershocks) near Varzeghan, is parameterized by means of a generalized passion model. The region has known faults but numerous smaller or deeply buried faults remain undated, according to the Geological Survey of Iran.展开更多
A new probabilistic seismic hazard analysis was performed for the city of Bridgetown, Barbados, West Indies. Hazard computations have been performed using the standard Cornell-McGuire approach based on the definition ...A new probabilistic seismic hazard analysis was performed for the city of Bridgetown, Barbados, West Indies. Hazard computations have been performed using the standard Cornell-McGuire approach based on the definition of appropriate seismogenic sources and expected maximum magnitudes, the authors take into consideration the possibility of large subduction interface earthquakes of magnitude 8.0-9.0 beneath the Barbados accretionary prism via application of a characteristic model and slip rates. The analysis has been conducted using a standard logic-tree approach. Uniform hazard spectra have been calculated for the 5% of critical damping and the horizontal component of ground motion for rock site conditions setting 5 return periods (95, 475, 975, 2,475 and 4,975 years) and spectral accelerations for 34 structural periods ranging from 0 to 3 s. The disaggregation results suggest that the magnitude-distance pair that dominates the hazard yields M 7.4 and 8.6 and a distance of 42.5 km in the Interface Subduction Zone beneath Barbados for the 475 and 975 years RP (return period), respectively. An event with an M 8.0 at a distance of 107.5 km in the Intraplate Subduction Zone is the second scenario that dominates the hazard for both 475 and 975 years RP.展开更多
