To evaluate the responses of fixed and pinned pile groups under torsion, a method is presented to analyze the nonlinear behavior of free-standing pile groups with rigid pile caps. The method is capable of simulating the nonlinear soil response in the near field usingp-y and r-θ curves, the far-field interactions through Mindlin's and Randolph's elastic solutions, and the coupling effect of lateral resistance on torsional resistance of the individual piles using an empirical factor. Based on comparisons of the solutions for fixed- and pinned-head, 1×2, 2×2, and 3×3 pile groups subjected to torsion, it was found that pile-cap connection significantly influences the torsional capacity of pile groups and the assignment of applied torques in the pile groups. In this study, the applied torques for the pinned-head pile groups are only 44%-64% of those for the corresponding fixed-head pile groups at a twist angle of 2^o. Such a difference is mainly due to the change of the lateral resistances of individual piles in the groups. 展开更多

We analyze a new car-following model described by a differential-difference equation with a synthesized optimal velocity function (SOVF),which depends on the front interactions between every two adjacent vehicles instead of the weighted average headway.The model is analyzed with the use of the linear stability theory and nonlinear analysis method.The stability and neutral stability condition are obtained.We also derive the modified KdV (Korteweg-de Vries) equation and the kink-antikink soliton solution near the critical point.A simulation is conducted with integrating the differential-difference equation by the Euler scheme.The results of the numerical simulation verify the validity of the new model. 展开更多

A support vector machine (SVM) with quadratic polynomial kernel function based nonlinear model one-step-ahead predictive controller is presented. The SVM based predictive model is established with black-box identification method. By solving a cubic equation in the feature space, an explicit predictive control law is obtained through the predictive control mechanism. The effect of controller is demonstrated on a recognized benchmark problem and on the control of continuous-stirred tank reactor (CSTR). Simulation results show that SVM with quadratic polynomial kernel function based predictive controller can be well applied to nonlinear systems, with good performance in following reference trajectory as well as in disturbance-rejection. 展开更多

We then investigate the cosmological evolution of f(T) massive gravity, and constrain it by using the latest observational data. Due to the coexistence and coupling of continuous variables and discrete events, the vehicle height adjustment process of electronic air suspension system can be regarded as a typical hybrid system. Therefore, the hybrid system theory was applied to design a novel vehicle height control strategy in this paper. A nonlinear mechanism model of the vehicle height adjustment system was established based on vehicle system dynamics and thermodynamic theory for variable-mass gas charge/discharge system. In order to model both the continuous/discrete dynamics of vehicle height adjustment process and the on-off statuses switching of solenoid valves, the framework of mixed logical dynamical(MLD) modelling was used. On the basis of the vehicle height adjustment control strategy, the MLD model of the adjustment process was built by introducing auxiliary logical variables and auxiliary continuous variables. Then, the co-simulation of the nonlinear mechanism model and the MLD model was conducted based on the compiling of HYSDEL. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed control strategy can not only adjust the vehicle height effectively, but also achieve the on-off statuses direct control of solenoid valves. 展开更多

Conventional attractive magnetic force models (proportional to the coil current squared and inversely proportional to the gap squared) cannot simulate the nonlinear responses of magnetic bearings in the presence of electromagnetic losses,flux leakage or saturation of iron.In this paper,based on results from an experimental set-up designed to study magnetic force,a novel parametric model is presented in the form of a nonlinear polynomial with unknown coefficients.The parameters of the proposed model are identified using the weighted residual method.Validations of the model identified were performed by comparing the results in time and frequency domains.The results show a good correlation between experiments and numerical simulations. 展开更多
