It produces analysis errors and improper dynamics simulation in large conveyors. The belt non-linear characteristics based on sag are described and the belt equivalent elastic moduli expression is deduced. The relationship between belt-equivalent elastic module and elastic module is studied, and their ratio varies from 0.1 to 1.0. The non-linear motion equation with a lumped element model is put forward. Its increment equation and numerical solution are built. A dynamics simulation on a conveyor is carried out, mainly to calculate and compare belt speed, acceleration, tension, displacement of gravity take-up and wave period with linear and non-linear models. It shows that the simulation errors between two models vary from 6% to 50%.展开更多

To predict this complex behavior of sands, a hypo-elastic model is developed based on the cross-anisotropic elasticity model, which involves four parameters: bulk module, tangent Young's module, volume deformation coefficient and Poisson ratio. A parameter defined as virtual peak deviatoric stress dependent on state parameter is introduced into hyperbolic stress strain relationship to determine tangent Young's module. In addition, an existing fitting equation for isotropic compression curves and an existing dilatancy equation, which can consider the effect of state of sands, are employed to determine bulk module and volume deformation coefficient. Thirteen model constants are involved in the proposed model, the values of which are fixed for a sand over a wide range of initial void ratios and initial confining pressures. Well known experimental data for drained and undrained triaxial compression tests of Toyoura sand are successfully modeled.展开更多

The surface effects on the large deflection of nanowires were considered. Both geometric nonlinearity in finite deformation and surface effects at nanoscale were taken into account to analyze the bending of nanowires subjected to a concentrated force. For simply supported beams and clamped-clamped beams, the influence of surface effects and geometric nonlinearity were discussed in detail. It is found that both surface effects and geometric nonlinearity tend to decrease the deflection of bending nanowires and thus increase the effective elastic modulus of nanowires. Surface effects yield the size dependent behavior of nanowires.展开更多

In this paper, we discuss the reusability of a type of static seal called the spring energized metal C ring, which is required to be reused 4-5 times without maintenance during the lifetime of the pump. A theoretical analysis based on the nonlinear finite element method and an experimental investigation of the reusability of the C ring are carried out. The effects of the elastic modulus of the ring material, the ring wall thickness, the amount of assembly interference between the spring and the C ring, the operating temperature and the compression ratio are discussed. The parameter S, which denotes the reaction force difference percentage, is determined to measure the reusability of the C ring. The results show that the ring wall thickness plays an important role in the reusability. Although the normal force of a thick wall decreases after the ring is reused eight times, the value is still higher than the first normal force of a thin wall. In contrast, the elastic modulus of the material has the lowest impact. Here, a pre-compression ratio of 18.2% not only produces a larger first normal force but also leads to a smaller reduction in the normal force when the ring is reused. A simulated experiment is carried out to investigate the influence of the coating of the C ring on its reusability. The results show that when plastic deformation occurs on the contact surface, the contact state of the C ring coating becomes a major factor that affects the seal performance. Aging treatment at high temperatures (250℃) reduces gized metal C ring, which leads to the deterioration in the reusability the binding force of the silver coating on the spring ener of the ring.展开更多

Introducing damping mechanisms, the authors also show that the energy of solutions for this modified Mindlin-Timoshenko system decays exponentially, uniformly with respect to the parameter k. As κ→∞, the authors obtain the damped von Karman model with associated energy exponentially decaying to zero as well.展开更多
