Some basic dynamical properties are studied either analytically or nu-merically,such as Poincaré map,Lyapunov exponents and Lyapunov dimension. Based on this flow,a new almost-Hamilton chaotic system with very high Lyapunov dimensions is constructed and investigated. In particular, we perform an extended Hopf bifurcation analysis of the system. The periodic orbit immediately following the Hopf bifurcation is constructed analytically for the T system using the method of multiple scales, and the stability of such orbits is analyzed. Such analytical results complement the numerical results present in the literature. The analytical results in the post-bifurcation regime are verified and extended via numerical simulations, as well as by the use of standard power spectra, autocorrelation functions, and fractal dimensions diagnostics. We find that the T system exhibits interesting behaviors in many parameter regimes.展开更多

Due to the complicatedness of the sea state and the huge size of the vessel, physical experimental study is both time consuming and uneconomical, whereas the numerical study is cost-effective and DNV software provides powerful SESAM software in solving the issues. This paper focuses on the modeling process of the SPM system, catenary equilibrium calculation, static analysis of the vessel in three different scenarios, and dynamic response simulation of the SPM system under environmental excitations. The three scenarios in study are as follows:the SPM is under the combined function of(a) wind, waves and current,(b) wind and waves,(c) current and waves. They are so set that one can compare the contributions of different types of loads in both static and dynamic studies. Numerical study shows that wind and current are the two major factors contributing to the mooring line tension, and surge and sway are the two dominant motions of the moored vessel subjected to environmental excitations.展开更多

Isotherms and lumped mass transfer coefficients of chromatography separating isomer sorbitol and mannitol on D80 adsorbent are determined. The analyses of root mean square error of chromatography elution curves are carried out. The results show that the system studied is non-linear and the theoretical elution curves of the non-linear chromatographic model are more accurate than those of the linear chromatographic model. Results of parameter sensitivity analyses show that elution curves of non-linear chromatographic separation are more sensitive to the variation of parameter "ai" in the adsorption isotherms than to the variation of parameter "bi" as well as lumped mass transfer coefficients.展开更多

And the shape-finding problem for maneuvering profile was solved with the Newton-Raphson based on energy convergence criteria with search function. This has avoided the regular truss element assumption extensively used in traditional methods and catenary elements which have difficulties in practical application because of the complicated formulas. The use of CR formulation has taken into account the stiffness outside the cable plane via a geometric stiffness matrix, realizing the 3D space analysis of a cable bridge and improving the efficiency and precision for the space geometric non-linearity analysis and cable structure, and enabling more precised simulation of geometric form finding and internal force of the large span suspension bridge main cable under construction.展开更多

This paper presents an approach for the identification of the characteristics of the structural system resisting to horizontal loads which enables to satisfy given seismic performance objectives. This is achieved by considering a total conceptual separation between the structural systems resisting to vertical and horizontal loads. The proposed approach is first briefly developed in general within a Performance-Based Seismic Design (PBSD) framework and then fully applied to the case study of a five-storey steel building structure. It is composed of three basic steps: (1) identification of the fundamental characteristics which should be possessed by the horizontal resisting system to satisfy a multiplicity of performance objectives, (2) development of a peculiar horizontal resisting system composed of "crescent shaped braces" which are specifically calibrated to satisfy given performance objectives, (3) verification, by means of appropriate time-history analyses, of the seismic performances achieved. In detail, the horizontal resisting system is calibrated to satisfy a multiplicity of performance objectives through the identification of an "objectives curve", in the Force-Displacement diagram, of the mechanical characteristics of the structure. The calibration is obtained by methods/tools borrowed either from Direct Displacement-Based Design (DDBD) or Force-Based Design (FBD), depending on the specific performance objective to be imposed. The applicative example has been carried out with reference to three performance objectives and has led to the identification of a horizontal resisting system composed of special bracing elements capable of realizing a sort of properly-calibrated seismic isolation called crescent-shaped braces. The results obtained through non-linear dynamic analyses have shown that the proposed approach leads to the congruity between the imposed and the achieved seismic performances.展开更多

Transition sets of the synchronous full annular rub are given with the help of averaging method and constraint bifurcation theory to discuss the effects of system parameters on jump phenomena. Routh-Hurwitz criteria are employed to analyze the stability of synchronous full annular rub solution and determine the boundaries of static and Hopf bifurcations. Finally, the response and onset condition of reverse dry whip are investigated numerically, and at the same time, the influences of rotor parameters and rotation speed on the characteristics of the rotor response are investigated.展开更多
