The use of microorganisms by humans has a long tradition. Bread making is one of the oldest arts known to man. Today we know that lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and yeasts are prevailing organisms in carbohydrate-rich environments. They break down carbohydrates to mainly lactic acid, ethanol and CO2. The present study is to determine the effect of Lactobacillus bulgaricus alone and as a combination with yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) using yeast as a control. In this work, different percentage of Lactobacillus bulgaricus were used to investigate how sourdough affect on the bread sensory characteristics such as volume, specific loaf volume, crust, grain, color crumb, aroma, taste, texture, pH of bread and extended shelf life of bread. Also different storage times were used to know it is affected on the shelf life and sensory characteristics of bread. The results suggest that use of sourdough in bread production is useful in improving sensory properties, decreasing fungal spoilage. 展开更多

The(Cu−10Sn)−Ni−MoS2 composites,prepared by powder metallurgy,were studied for the effects of Ni-coated MoS2 on the microstructure,mechanical properties and lubricating properties.The mechanism of effects of Ni and MoS2 on the properties of composites was analyzed through a comparative experiment by adding Ni and MoS2 separately.The results show that the nickel wrapping around the MoS2 particles decreases the reaction rate of MoS2 with the copper matrix,and greatly improves the bonding of the matrix.The composites with 12 wt.%Ni-coated MoS2(C12)show the optimum performance including the mechanical properties and tribological behaviors.Under oil lubrication conditions,the friction coefficient is 0.0075 with a pressure of 8 MPa and a linear velocity of 0.25 m/s.The average dry friction coefficient,sliding against 40Cr steel disc,is measured to be 0.1769 when the linear velocity and pressure are 0.25 m/s and 4 MPa,respectively. 展开更多

The cube is the unique space-filling platonic solid. If we make line connections the center with the vertices in the certain cube, the cube is divided into six pyramids. And if we glued six pyramids to the faces of the cube, we obtain a 'rhombic dodecahedron'. Since cubes are packing a space, rhombic dodecahedra are also space-filling polyhedra and a rhombic dodecahedron is divided into two regular tetrahcdra and one regular octahedron. In this study, we present how rhombic dodecahedron can be split into tetrahedra and octahedron. In this process, we can research a variety of divisions of regular polyhedron. 展开更多

De Haas-van Alphen Effect of Free Electron Gas Revisited

The free electron gas in a uniform magnetic field at low temperature is restudied. The grand partition function previously obtained by Landau's quantitative calculation contains three parts, which are all approximate. An improved calculation is presented, in which two of the three parts are obtained in exact forms. A simple remedy for Landau and Lifshitz's qualitative calculation in the textbook is also given, which turns the qualitative result into the same one as obtained by the improved quantitative calculation. The chemical potential is solved approximately and the thermodynamic quantities are caiculated explicitly in both a weak field and a strong field. The thermodynamic quantities in a strong field obtained here contain both non-oscillating and oscillating corrections to the corresponding results derived from Landau's grand partition function. In particular, Landau's grand partition function is not sufficiently accurate to yield our nonzero results for the specific heat and the entropy. An error in the Laplace-transform method for the problem is corrected. The results previously obtained by this method are also improved. 展开更多

Introduction: Bread is a food full of flavors and nutrients and continues to be the basis of our daily diet. Aim: The aim of this review was the investigation of bread's usefulness in our daily dietary chain and health in general. Material-Method: Extensive review of the recent literature was conducted in electronic databases (Medline, Scopus, and Google Scholar) through the Association of Hellenic Academic Libraries (HEAL-Link) using the appropriate key words: bread, health, disease as well as a combination of them. Results: Bread is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates that provide the body with the energy needed. Although bread is a basic food of everyday human nutrition, it is implicated in a variety of situations that burden the human body, such as obesity. However, this happens only when it is consumed in very large quantities and when it is part of an unbalanced diet. Conclusions: Bread, when is consumed in balanced quantities can give the body plenty of nutrients essential for its good function. 展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the prevalence of primary iris and/or ciliary body cysts in eyes with shallow anterior chamber and their effect on the narrowing of the anterior chamber angle.Methods:Among the general physical check-up population,subjects with shallow anterior chambers,as judged by van Herick technique,were recruited for further investigation.Ultrasound biomicroscope(UBM) was used to detect and measure the cysts located in the iris and/or ciliary body,the anterior chamber depth(ACD),the angle opening distance at 500 μm(AOD500),and the trabecular-iris angle(TIA).A-scan ultrasonography was used to measure the ocular biometry,including lens thickness,axial length,lens/axial length factor(LAF),and relative lens position(RLP).The effect of the cyst on narrowing the corresponding anterior chamber angle and the entire angle was evaluated by the UBM images,ocular biometry,and gonioscopic grading.The eye with unilateral cyst was compared with the eye without the cyst for further analysis.Results:Among the 727 subjects with shallow anterior chamber,primary iris and ciliary body cysts were detected in 250(34.4%) patients;among them 96(38.4%) patients showed unilateral single cyst,21(8.4%) patients had unilateral double cysts,and 42(16.8%) patients manifested unilateral multiple and multi-quadrants cysts.Plateau iris configuration was found in 140 of 361(38.8%) eyes with cysts.The mean size of total cysts was(0.6547±0.2319) mm.In evaluation of the effect of the cyst size and location on narrowing the corresponding angle to their position,the proportion of the cysts causing corresponding angle narrowing or closure among the cysts larger than 0.8 mm(113/121,93.4%) was found to be significantly higher than that of the cysts smaller than 0.8 mm(373/801,46.6%),and a significant higher proportion was also found in the cysts located at iridociliary sulcus(354/437,81.0%) than in that at the pars plicata(131/484,27.1%).In evaluating the effect of the cyst on the entire anterior chamber angle,the eyes with multiple and multi-quadrants cysts manifested significant narrowing of the entire anterior chamber angle as compared with the eyes without cysts,based on the data analysis in comparison of TIA,AOD500,and gonioscopic grading evaluation.The unilateral single or double cysts in the eyes had no significant effect on narrowing of anterior chamber angle as compared with eyes without cysts.The iris and/or ciliary body cysts did not seem to affect the axial length,ACD,lens thickness,RLP,LAF.Conclusions:The prevalence of primary iris and ciliary body cyst was 34.4% in the subjects with shallow anterior chamber.The cysts larger than 0.8 mm,locating at iridociliary sulcus,or multiple and extensive cysts were inclined to cause the angle narrowing or closure. 展开更多

Integration of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) onto high surface area photocathod is highly desired to minimize the overpotential for the solar-powered hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Semiconductor nanowires (NWs) are beneficial use in photoelectrochemistry because of their large electrochemically availab surface area and inherent ability to decouple light absorption and the transpo of minority carriers. Here, silicon (Si) NW arrays were employed as a mod photocathode system for MoS2 wrapping, and their solar-driven HER activil was evaluated. The photocathode is made up of a well-defined MoSJTiO2/Si coaxial NW heterostructure, which yielded photocurrent density up to 15 mA/cm2 (at 0 V vs. the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE)) with goo stability under the operating conditions employed. This work reveals the earth-abundant electrocatalysts coupled with high surface area NW electrod~ can provide performance comparable to noble metal catalysts for photocathod hydrogen evolution. 展开更多
