The anti-erosion characteristic rules and mechanism of desert scorpion's surface under the dynamics effect of gas/solid mixed media were researched, especially the comprehensive influence mechanism of surface morphology, microstructure, creature flexibility and many other factors was studied. Simulation by CFD software was applied to predict the relative erosion severity. Samples with the coupled bionic configurations and flexibility were produced. Experiment optimum design theory was employed to design experiment scheme. Silica sand of particle size of 105-830 ~tm was used as the erodent. The erosion tests were carried out to validate the simulation results obtained. It is shown that the predicted results are in agreement with those obtained from the experiment. And contrast tests were carried out at the best and worst test points of erosion resistance for four samples. Contrast tests show that the erosion resistance trend occurs in such order with the best erosion resistance as coupling sample, groove, smooth and flexibility, and smooth, and the increasing rate of erosion resistances in sequence of 12.08%, 8.87%, 6.03% in the best test point. But in the poorest point, the increasing rate of erosion resistance is in sequence of 15.64%, 9.53%, 6.59%. The morphologies of eroded surface were examined by the scanning electron microscope, and the possible wear mechanism was discussed.展开更多

This paper presents some aspects on the working process of a sieve, made of perforated sheet and having an outer conical surface with oscillatory circular motion (alternative) on the horizontal. Results are presented for some experimental researches on the movement of material on the sieve, for various kinematical parameters of the sieve (amplitude and oscillation frequency). A conical sieve, suspended at the upper and lower in three points, was tested for screening of rapeseeds in order to estimate the influence of oscillation frequency on the screening process. Curves were drawn for separation intensity on the sieve generating line, and by regression analysis with normal distribution law were determined the equation coefficients and the correlation with experimental data. Movement of material on the sieve and its working process, in general, was appreciated by means of the peak position of distribution curve depending on the oscillation frequency of the sieve, considering that the normal distribution law correlates very well the data obtained by experiments.展开更多

FFIR, XPS, SEM and dispersion stability tests were used to characterize the structure and surface morphology of CNTs. The results showed that CNTs surfaces were slightly activated and strongly etched in supercritieal water system. The adsorption capacity of SCW-treated CNTs was higher than that of raw CNTs. The adsorbed amounts for treated CNTs and raw CNTs samples at the same initial concentration of 60 mg/L were ca. 16.42 and 7.30 mg/g, respectively. The BDO adsorption of treated CNTs was due to the physical adsorption. The experimental data fit Freundlich isotherm model better than Langmuir one. The loaded adsorbent could be efficiently desorbed and regenerated by SCW technique. Therefore, SCW is a promising and environmentally friendly technique for the improvement of adsorption and regeneration of CNTs.展开更多

The study was developed with the aid of experimental simulations in a wind tunnel, taking into account the urban morphology and its relations to open spaces. A diagnosis was produced through the exam of the wind effects in relation to the volume of built and non-built spaces. The effects were classified as positive or negative, in relation to the tropical climate. At first, both blocks studied, one in Ipanema and one in Copacabana, were selected according to common characteristics, which establish a relation between the two regions, such as the distance to the beach and the presence of a public square. The results confirmed our expectations showing Ipanema as a more ventilated area.展开更多

Therefore, it is necessary to find a simple method to evaluate the cell adhesive strength. By the glycerol method, we prepared zein microcarriers. Both microcarrier surface morphology and cells on the microcarriers could be observed clearly when the microcarriers and the cells were stained by acridine orange(AO). Pre-treatment of soaking and sterilizing processes was necessary for cell culture, but it did not alter the morphology of zein microcarriers. Three kinds of cells were cultured on zein microcarriers for 24 h. Vero cells showed the strongest adhesion, while L929 cells were easily detached from the microcarriers after a simple beating operation. The proliferation curve of Vero cells cultured on the microcarriers displayed no difference with that on Cytodex 1.展开更多
