Model of generic project risk element transmission theory based on data mining

In order to construct the data mining frame for the generic project risk research, the basic definitions of the generic project risk element were given, and then a new model of the generic project risk element was presented with the definitions. From the model, data mining method was used to acquire the risk transmission matrix from the historical databases analysis. The quantitative calculation problem among the generic project risk elements was solved. This method deals with well the risk element transmission problems with limited states. And in order to get the limited states, fuzzy theory was used to discrete the historical data in historical databases. In an example, the controlling risk degree is chosen as P(Rs≥2) ≤0.1, it means that the probability of risk state which is not less than 2 in project is not more than 0.1, the risk element R3 is chosen to control the project, respectively. The result shows that three risk element transmission matrix can be acquired in 4 risk elements, and the frequency histogram and cumulative frequency histogram of each risk element are also given.

From risk management to uncertainty management: a significant change in project management

Starting with the meanings of the terms “risk” and “uncertainty,””he paper compares uncertainty management with risk management in project management. We bring some doubt to the use of “risk” and “uncertainty” interchangeably in project management and deem their scope, methods, responses, monitoring and controlling should be different too. Illustrations are given covering terminology, description, and treatment from different perspectives of uncertainty management and risk management. Furthermore, the paper retains that project risk management (PRM) processes might be modified to facilitate an uncertainty management perspective, and we support that project uncertainty management (PUM) can enlarge its contribution to improving project management performance, which will result in a significant change in emphasis compared with most risk management.

Risk Management： A New Project Management Perspective

Risk management in Botswana has been very ineffective at assisting projects to be on time, on budget, and meeting client＇s/buyer＇s expectations. Traditional risk management attempts to manage, control, and direct a project through various phases, from planning and design, through procurement, and to construction. However, the risk management in Botswana seems to be either not implemented or not successful. The project performance in Botswana has a poor performance record. The researchers are attempting to identify why the traditional project/risk management is not working. In analyzing the problem in Botswana, the researchers discovered that the traditional risk management model was theoretically unsound, and designed a new project and risk model, with an entirely different approach to risk. The new model is an outgrowth of the highly successful Performance Information Procurement System （PIPS） and the Information Measurement Theory （IMT）/Kashiwagi Solution Model （KSM） concepts. The approach has been presented to some Botswana clients and academics and has received a favorable response. The development of the new risk model will lead to a huge change in the paradigm for delivering projects in Botswana. The theoretical development of the new risk model is ongoing at the University of Botswana as a part of a doctoral dissertation.

Study of Quality Management in Construction Projects

This research management, exp and lores preliminarily the practices of quality management, management commitment in quality quality management implementation problems in construction projects in the context of Malaysian construction industry. The research applies semi-structured interview approach with twelve project management practitioners. The findings of the study indicate that the state of quality management in construction projects in Malaysia needs to be strengthened and there are problems in relation to quality management implementation that require attention and further research. The paper provides an insight on the state of quality management in construction projects in Malaysia.

Rethinking Project Organization and Management

How projects should be organized and managed are two important aspects of the role that Project Managers perform and the processes involved can be linked to the measurement of the project management outcome. Recent studies indicate that these processes are not implemented and concerns have been raised. The authors present an investigation into the current practices of the three soft project management subject matters of selecting project team members, structuring the teams and the management style followed in the construction industry in UK and their reflection upon the project management outcome. The results confirm the concerns raised and indicate that the current levels of implementation by practitioners delivers only acceptable as opposed to successful level of project management outcome. The findings call for a reconsideration of the approach taken when deciding how to organize and manage project teams and a redress towards improving project management outcome.

Innovate Triple Constraints Model for Better Construction Project Results

The continuous changing impacts appeared in all solution understanding approaches in the projects management field （especially in the construction field of work） by adopting dynamic solution paths. The paper will define what argue to be a better relational model for project management constraints （time, cost and scope）. This new model will increase the success factors of any complex program/project. This is a qualitative research adopting a new avenue of investigation by following different approach of attributing project activities with social phenomena, and supporting phenomenon with field of observations rather than mathematical method by emerging solution from human, and ants＇ colonies successful practices. The results will show the correct approach of relation between the triple constraints considering the relation as multi agents system having specified communication channels based on agents locations. Information will be transferred between agents, and action would be taken based on constraint agents locations in the project structure allowing immediate changes abilities in order to overcome issues of over budget, behind schedule and additional scope impact. This is complex adaptive system having self organized technique, and cybernetic control. Resulted model can be used for improving existing project management methodologies.

Engineering project management refers to the management through the whole process of engineering construction, including quality, time project time limit, safety, cost, environmental protection, and innovation, etc. The most important thing for construction enterprises to improve market competitiveness is to reduce enterprise costs by decreasing resource consumption in the construction, and control the consumptions within the project budget.

Research on Application of BIM Technology in Project Management

According to the actual requirement of project management on BIM application, the paper presents a new the overall implementation scheme and system architecture based on BIM project management. This paper established the engineering project management process that suitable for the situation of our country, design the organizational structure and verified the rationality through the example simulation based on the study of ideological characteristics of BIM combined with the modem project management theory and method. Impact Assessment of LEEMP （Local Empowerment and Environmental Management Project） in Adamawa State of Nigeria

This paper provided a reviewed case of implementation of rural development project in relation to poverty alleviation in Adamawa State of Nigeria. Inco-prorating the community based management project in rural development strategies seems to be the best approach to implement rural development project. The study used both qualitative and quantitative research techniques to obtain data on the implementation of LEEMP （local empowerment and environmental management project）. The result shows that the project has impacted positively to rural development of some rural communities in the state. However, there were challenges discovered, which include non-inclusion of some stake holders because of social class or due to political affiliations, while projects are not evenly distributed among communities of serious needs. This paper implies that effective incorporation of rural communities in the managements of rural development projects requires full community participation in the development process. This requires collective action, which ties the community on values, sustainable maintenance of infrastructures, and improvements, in cultures, of environmental conservation and economics benefits into rural development, with balancing the aim of sustaining social infrastructures, environmental management and poverty alleviation.

Rationality of escalating commitment in information systems project management： An inter-disciplinary perspective

Escalation of commitment has been linked to losses in information systems （IS） projects. Understanding the nature and the rationality of escalation allows the firm to promote optimal project management practices. This study takes an inter-disciplinary approach and draws on research from economics and management to create a model of irrational escalation and a model of rational escalation. The forces that contribute to irrational escalation include the responsibility of the same manager for both the project selection and project continuation decisions that create proneness to self-justification, the potential for negative framing of decision options due to large sunk costs, the proximity of project completion and the presence of organizational inertia. Identifying these irrational escalation factors helps design appropriate de-escalation techniques. The rational escalation model draws on the real option theory and the bandit process theory to identify conditions when project continuation is justified by the value of information and the value of flexibility that the firm receives from continuing the project.

Research on Contract Management and Control in the Process of Project Cost

In the current economic situation, strengthening the contract management of the construction cost has a beautifully role.
