Chemical engineers as project managers are faced with decision environments and problems in chemical industry projects that are complex. Multiple-criteria decision making (MCDM) approaches are major parts of decision theory and analysis. This paper presents all of MCDM approaches for use in chemical engineering management decisions. In this work, case study is Research and Development (R&D) project selection in chemical industry. The ability to make sound decisions is very important to success of R&D projects. It is hoped that this work will provide a ready reference on MCDM and this will encourage the application of the MCDM in chemical engineering management.展开更多

A steam cracking project is selected and analyzed, from which typical SC characteristics in international engineering projects in the area of petrochemical industry are summarized. The MINLP model is therefore developed and applied to projects with detailed data. The optimization results are analyzed and compared by the MINLP model, indicating that they are appropriate to SC management practice in engineering projects, and are consistent with the optimal priceeffective strategy in procurement. As a result, the model could provide useful guidance to SC optimization of international engineering projects in petrochemical industry, and improve SC management by selecting more reliable and qualified partner enterprises in SC for the project.展开更多

The lack of familiarity of project management standards is one of the common risks in the construction industry in Egypt. The main aim of this paper is to identify the most significant risk factors affecting highway construction project in Egypt to decrease the likelihood and impact of those risks. The research method starts with extensive literature review to provide a prime risk factors list which was also augmented to expertise to reach final risk factor list which contains all risks that may be faced during highway construction. Subsequently, a set of 12 risk groups consisting of 73 risks was selected and a questionnaire survey was conducted to determine the likelihood and consequences of the identified risks. Later, a software application was developed using MATLAB to facilitate risk evaluation of highways projects. Results indicated that the risk factors arise from owner side is one of the most common risk factors in the construction industry in Egypt as the owner in the majority of construction project in Egypt is the governmental sector, however, the overall project risk of highway construction projects in Egypt is considered as at a medium level.展开更多

BIM has been interpreted as a process technology that aids in enhancing project management. Hence, the investigation from an interdisciplinary perspective of the two concepts may bring new insights to understanding related research. In this paper, a structural approach is adopted in reviewing BIM studies in project management from 2005 to 2017 within identified target journals. This review aims to classify the major research directions and topics for BIM research in project management. Moreover, given BIM's potential for application in project management, this paper attempts to establish a fundamental research foundation for a new paradigm of project management that incorporates BIM, namely, BIM-based project management. The preliminary result suggests that BIM research in project management develops drastically in the examined duration. The research directions of BIM studies in project management include enabling BIM as a technology in project management; BIM application as a solution for specific project management scopes; integration issues of BIM that have been brought to project management;institutional environment and regulatory governance of BIM in realizing project management strategies; and analysis of effects and strategies of BIM adoption and implementation in projects. The directions and trends are then analyzed to develop a research route for BIM studies in project management. Finally, conclusions focus on the relations of the research directions, as well as the contributions and theoretical implications of this review.Future research areas are also recommended.展开更多
